Paris Art Week Is Packed With Satellite Fairs for Every Taste

The art world is still flush from Paris fever, with international galleries vying for a foothold in the City of Light, particularly since Brexit in 2016 and the arrival of Art Basel Paris three years ago. Now added to this week’s fete are several new satellite fairs and expanded, hybrid selling exhibitions. From Thursday to Sunday, the US-based New Art Dealer’s Alliance is partnering with local artist-run organization The Community for “Salon by NADA and The Community.” The hybrid, must-see selling exhibition OFFSCREEN has expanded, welcoming Marian Goodman gallery for the first time with a special Chantal Ackermann project, and the Place des Vosges in the Maris is hosting an informal grouping of eight pop-up galleries, including Chris Sharp Gallery, and Corbet vs. Dempsey, to name a few. Not to be forgotten, the mainstay Paris Internationale fair is celebrating a decade since its founding. Related Articles With so many events over such a densely-packed week, comes the inevitable question of whether the Paris pie is big enough to go around. Yet from what ARTnews has …

Channel migrant dinghy in which five people died packed with people carrying weapons and fighting – survivor | World News

The migrant dinghy in which five people died was chaotic, overloaded and packed with people carrying weapons and fighting, according to one of the passengers who was on board, speaking exclusively to Sky News. Heivin, 18, confirmed the boat was stormed by a rival group of migrants, armed with sticks and knives, as it was preparing to set off. She said: “People were fighting, people were getting stepped on, they were dying and being thrown off.” She said she fell into the water but was pulled out by another person on the boat. Two other passengers who fell into the water, including a young girl, drowned. Three other people died on the boat. Heivin said she “really hated” the group of people who hijacked their boat, insisting they should take the blame for what happened. “They caused a huge tragedy,” she said. Sunak and his cabinet think one packed Rwanda flight will save them. It won’t | Enver Solomon

Sunak and his cabinet think one packed Rwanda flight will save them. It won’t | Enver Solomon

There will be a sigh of relief in No 10 with the passing of the Rwanda bill, as well as a degree of frustration. Having to steward another migration bill through parliament was not part of the government’s plan. With the Rwanda bill passing on to the statute book, overriding the supreme court judgment that Rwanda is not a safe country to which to send people seeking sanctuary, the government now hopes it can finally get on with locking up and then removing those seeking safety on our shores. The prime minister told a hastily arranged press conference on Monday morning that the first flight would not take off for “10 or 12 weeks” (having previously said it would be in spring). Officials are privately describing it as a “proof of concept” flight – this means focusing on having an initial flight to test how legally watertight the new laws are. There are different views on this within government and officials quietly say they don’t know exactly how legal challenges will play out. Yet the …

‘All these normal people, packed into a human lasagne’: my glamour-free night at the Oscars | Oscars 2024

‘All these normal people, packed into a human lasagne’: my glamour-free night at the Oscars | Oscars 2024

Before we commence, let me make you a promise. The whole point of the “I was there!” Oscars report hinges on the manner in which the writer brushed against celebrities. Once brushed, the writer passes that experience along to the reader, so that we might all share in the secondhand glow of Hollywood’s starriest night. So, my promise is this: it’s coming. My meaningful celebrity encounter of the night is coming, OK? Just be patient. Now, I attended the Oscars for one reason: I wanted to see if it was better in person than it is on TV. Because, as a piece of television, the Oscars is generally dreadful. The ceremony is too long and often the films celebrated aren’t the ones people have seen. Plus, the show tends to be hamstrung by its format. If it sticks to the same formula year after year, it is boring. But if it tries to mix things up, it is excruciating. (Remember the year they held it in a train station and made Glenn Close twerk?) In …

Martin Lewis criticises ‘disgraceful’ conditions on packed London to Sheffield train with one toilet | UK News

A railway company has apologised after broadcaster Martin Lewis complained about the “disgraceful” service on a packed train from London St Pancras to Sheffield with one working toilet. The consumer affairs journalist, known as the Money Saving Expert, voiced his outrage on social media about the overcrowded train, which he estimated was carrying around 500 passengers. Every seat and standing space was occupied with passengers forced to sit in train corridors, Mr Lewis wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, in a post viewed more than four million times. “I guess 500 people on it and only one working toilet at one end, so people must crawl over each 100s to reach it. “It’s degrading, like something from the 19th century,” he wrote. Mr Lewis said he had to “apologise profusely” as he tried to make his way to the toilet – with several passengers urging him to make a public statement about the problem. He later added: “PS it seems I may owe an apology to the 19th century – many saying trains then …
