Naomi Osaka Delivered an Instant-Classic US Open Fit

Naomi Osaka Delivered an Instant-Classic US Open Fit

Almost 20 years ago to the day, Serena Williams caused a ruckus at the very same tournament by wearing a denim skirt and shoes that were part tennis, part thigh-high boot. STAN HONDA/Getty Images “She came walking out at the [2004] US Open like she’s on the Paris runway,” Wilson Smith, who designed the one-of-a-kind Nike Shox, told GQ. Unfortunately, not everyone was feeling them, so the GOAT was only allowed to warm up in them. “The tournament directors say, ‘Hey, Serena, those boots are a little over the top.’ They’re pretty conservative,” Smith said. After kicking things off like this, Osaka’s sartorial arrangements for the rest of the Open are pretty much appointment viewing. Her next match is on Thursday against Czech competitor Karolina Muchova. Osaka entered the tournament ranked 88th in the world, as she’s still working her way back into form after missing all of last year’s Grand Slams on maternity leave. (Her first child, a daughter named Shai, was born in July 2023.) Since returning to the sport in January, she …

The 26-year-old tennis star shared a video to TikTok on Tuesday to celebrate the new movie, where Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, a tennis player turned coach. In her video, Osaka was wearing a white cap and a pair of black sunglasses, which she slightly took off her face as she looked toward the camera. The video went on to show Osaka on the tennis court, as she was wearing a brown sweater and matching sweatpants. She also had her racket in hand, while she jumped up in the air and served the ball. Toward the end of the clip, she twirled her racket around and tied her hair back, references to moments in Challengers. The video was also set to one of the songs from the film, “Challengers” …

Naomi Osaka Goes Into Tashi Duncan Mode in ‘Challengers’-Inspired TikTok

Zendaya’s ruthless Tashi Duncan may be a fictional tennis champion in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, but she’s garnered at least one real-life phenom’s approval. Four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka showed love to Challengers on TikTok in a post that has garnered more than 136,000 likes. TikTok content This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. “No one: Me after watching Challengers,” reads the text on the 12-second video set to the film’s thumping score, composed by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Osaka begins her TikTok looking straight at the camera, peering over the top of black sunglasses, Tashi Duncan–style. Then, wearing a brown sweatsuit, Osaka serves in slow motion. She ends the video twirling her racket and tying her hair back. “Naomi u were deff on the tashi moodboard,” commented TikTok user Cassandra, while another commenter cleverly referenced Zendaya’s hit HBO series, Euphoria, in their message. “Is this play about us????” wrote naná. Naomi Osaka Shares Tennis Moves Set to ‘Challengers’ Score

Tennis star Naomi Osaka offered her response to Luca Guadagnino’s buzzy tennis movie Challengers on Thursday, sharing her own moves on the court set to the movie’s viral techno score. On TikTok, Osaka posted a video of herself moving through a tennis serve and twirling her racket with her fingers after writing, “Me after watching Challengers.” Though the tennis player has no official ties to the hit movie, which stars Zendaya embroiled in a love triangle with Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes previously told Business Insider it was Osaka’s 2018 win over Serena Williams that partially inspired the film. At the 2018 US Open, then-20-year-old Osaka beat Williams in a dramatic match that was colored by three code violations for Williams, for receiving coaching, racquet abuse and verbal abuse. Williams, outraged specifically by the insinuation that she cheated by communicating with her coach, called umpire Carlos Ramos a “thief” for docking her a point, and delayed the match significantly by disputing with Ramos and the game’s referees. “Immediately, this struck me as …

Osaka just wants to have fun on Grand Slam return

SYDNEY : Naomi Osaka says she has returned to tennis from maternity leave with a more positive outlook and all the signs are that she will soon be back at a level where she can take on and beat the best in the world. It might be too early for a tilt at a fifth Grand Slam title at the Australian Open this month but, with a good draw, a run deep into the second week at Melbourne Park cannot be counted out. The 26-year-old, who pulled out of last year’s Australian Open with the announcement that she was pregnant with her daughter Shai, showed in Brisbane last week that she still has the weapons to overpower many players in the women’s game. “I think for me even stepping on the court is a personal win because a couple of weeks ago I was even doubting if I could play with everyone,” she said after her second-round loss to Karolina Pliskova. “These two matches that I’ve had kind of prove to me that I am …

Inside the world’s sinking airport in the middle of nowhere which cost £15billion to build | World | News

An airport in the middle of nowhere which is slowly sinking cost a staggering The Kansai International Airport serves the Japanese city of Osaka and occupies two artificial islands in Osaka Bay. When it opened in 1994, millions were excited. Finally, they said, an airport close to our home. Oddly enough that airport has grown further away from the city since it first opened. That is because each year, the Kansai International Airport has slowly succumbed to the Earth beneath it. It has, in total, sunk 38 feet and counting, yet continues to serve as a hub for All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Nippon Cargo Airlines which fly all over Asia. Kansai’s engineers knew the airport was slightly sinking but predicted it to evenly settle over a 50-year period. They said it would stabilise at 13 feet above sea level, the minimum elevation required to prevent flooding in case a breach develops in an encircling seawall. Within six years, however, portions of the first of the two islands created reached that threshold. Some £117million …
