A new — surprise surprise — wine bar and restaurant, run by a pair of wine-importer friends, plus a chef with a CV taking in some of the capital’s more modish dining rooms (Brawn and Salon, inter alia). This place, at least, is distinguished by being located on Cloth Fair, one of the prettiest streets of ye olde London and a survivor of the Great Fire, in a double-fronted building beneath the former lodgings of John Betjeman, who would have felt right at home in the interior of low ceilings and wood panelling. The arch anti-modernist might not have been so comfortable with the on-trend cooking: squid with black olive, preserved lemon and lardo, or hogget with grilled cos lettuce, smoked tongue and anchovy. A two-course set lunch for £25, however, should be to any poet’s taste (and bank balance). Source link

It’s all change at 20 Berkeley, the Mayfair bolthole with private club-style surrounds but an open-to-all ethos. The namesake restaurant which opened last May is set to become Niju, a Japanese grill and sushi bar. The culinary theme is ‘katei ryori’, or home-cooked food, which can only make one assume that domestic science lessons in Japan are rather more advanced than they are in the UK, given that the culinary offering will be overseen by Endo Kazutoshi, the third-generation sushi master behind Michelin-starred Endo at the Rotunda and soon-to-open Kioku at the OWO hotel. Dishes will include curries (duck, veg or crispy-skin red mullet) with rice and pickles, and trout or tuna chirashi. Thankfully, the excellent Nipperkin cocktail bar is staying the same except for the addition of a snacky menu of sando sandwiches. Source link

Natural wine pioneer Michael Sager returns to his east London routes, launching this new wine bar and shop (named after his dad) in Victoria Park Village, not a million miles away from where his first site, Sager + Wilde, opened on Hackney Road just over 10 years ago. Here he’ll be pouring a niche selection of natural wines exclusively supplied by his import business, Sager and Wine; to eat, there’ll be soft pretzels (filled or unfilled), charcuterie and cheese. The 25-seat space in a converted stables should fit in nicely with its neighbours Pophams Bakery and The Deli Downstairs, being all reclaimed furniture and architectural salvage; there’s a terrace out front for when the weather warms up, and a vinyl soundtrack courtesy of Audio Gold. Best London Restaurants: the chicest new openings in 2024

London’s culinary scene is steeped in history and rich in culture. Let’s be honest though, we’re overwhelmed with choices and therefore often end up sticking to what we already know. But with the new restaurant openings happening in the capital this year, your palette is going to be more well-versed than ever in 2024. It’s only January and the list of ultra-chic new openings is already plentiful, from omasake restaurants with just six seats, to luxury bistros with vintage French decor, we’re keeping you up to date with the most luxurious new openings throughout the year. How We Chose: Newness: I chose restaurants in London that are new or reopening in 2024. I explored the menus, decor and location of each to provide all the necessary information you need.  Location: Each restaurant is based in London Menu: As these are either just opened or not yet open, some may not have a personal review from the Hello! Fashion team, therefore the “menu highlights” are pieces that stood out to me as a selling point from …
