Best Internet Providers in Oklahoma

What is the best internet provider in Oklahoma? AT&T is CNET’s pick for the best internet provider for most Oklahoma households. It’s our top recommendation thanks to its widespread coverage in the OKC, Norman and Tulsa areas, and its fast multigig speeds. In areas where its fiber network isn’t available, AT&T also has a decent copper-based network that covers much of the state. In addition to its excellent availability, AT&T boasts great speeds, pricing and service terms. But AT&T isn’t your only option for internet in Oklahoma. Residents have access to dozens of internet providers. Some are major national brands, while others are so localized you might not hear of them outside Perry or Stillwater. One killed in Oklahoma tornado as severe storms batter central and southern states

At least one person in Oklahoma has died as a result of a tornado that ripped through small towns, as severe storms moved from the South and into central areas, causing devastation and disruption to for millions. Osage County Sheriff Eddie Virden told NBC News that the unidentified person died as a result of a tornado in Barnsdall, a city of about 1,000 people some 40 miles north of Tulsa, amid some of the storm’s worst devastation, on Monday night. Virden said it was too early to say how many others may have been injured but said his deputies had carried out multiple rescues. “There’s areas, residences that [have] been completely destroyed. We did several rescues of people trapped in debris,” he said. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said on X that it had established a meeting point in the town for anyone searching for loved ones. Bartlesville, 20 miles to the north-east, was similarly affected. A hotel in the town was severely damaged, as shown in social media posts uploaded by witnesses — firefighters were …

A tornado hit an Oklahoma newsroom built in the 1920s. The damage isn’t stopping the presses

A tornado hit an Oklahoma newsroom built in the 1920s. The damage isn’t stopping the presses

The newsroom was built in 1926, the same year the newspaper started printing, and they’re likely the original tenants, although no one can say for certain. The building was once a fallout shelter and might be one of the few buildings that will survive. But they worry the town may condemn the structure and raze it with the rest of downtown, James John said. Several buildings have completely crumpled. Others show the strange precision of tornadic winds, like a shop that is missing its front wall while the clothing inside remains neatly folded or hanging on a rack. Not far from the newsroom, a sports grill was flattened underneath its roof. One resident, Sheila Hilliard Goodman, died there Saturday night while sheltering from the tornado. Brick, wood and metal rubble has been pushed to the curbs and maintenance trucks line most of the downtown’s modest five blocks, where disaster relief workers attend to downed power lines or sweep debris from the few remaining rooftops. Business owners and their families salvage what they can by loading …

Baby among at least five killed after tornadoes rip through central US

At the Sulphur High School gym, where families took cover from the storm, Jackalyn Wright said she and her family heard what sounded like a helicopter as the tornado touched down over them. Chad Smith, 43, said people ran into the gym as the wind picked up. The rain started coming faster and the doors slammed shut. “Just give me a beer and a lawn chair and I will sit outside and watch it,” Mr Smith said. Instead, he took cover. Residents in other states were also digging out from storm damage. A tornado in suburban Omaha, Nebraska, demolished homes and businesses on Saturday as it moved for miles through farmland and into subdivisions, then slammed an Iowa town. The tornado damage began on Friday afternoon near Lincoln, Nebraska. An industrial building in Lancaster County was hit, causing it to collapse with 70 people inside. Several were trapped, but everyone was evacuated, and the three injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said. One or possibly two tornadoes then spent around an hour creeping toward Omaha, leaving behind damage consistent with an EF3 twister, …

Nearly 30,000 people remained without electricity after tornadoes began late Saturday night. The destruction was extensive in Sulphur, a town of about 5,000 people, where many downtown buildings were reduced to rubble and roofs were sheared off houses across a 15-block radius. “You just can’t believe the destruction,” Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said during a visit to the hard-hit town. “It seems like every business downtown has been destroyed.” Stitt said about 30 people were injured in Sulphur. Hospitals across the state reported about 100 injuries, including people apparently cut or struck by debris or hurt from falls, according to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency …

10-year-old boy woke to find family slain in Oklahoma murder-suicide that left 5 dead

A 10-year-old boy woke up Monday in his home and found his family massacred, four of whom were fatally shot by the child’s father who then killed himself, Oklahoma City police said Tuesday. Jonathon Candy argued with his wife, Lindsay Candy, and fatally shot her and then gunned down three of his sons, between the ages of 12 and 18, before he fatally shot himself at his Mirage Street home, Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said during a media briefing. The 10-year-old boy called police about 9:30 a.m. Monday and told them about the grisly discoveries. “Police received a 911 call from a 10-year-old inside the residence indicating … everyone inside the home appeared to be dead,” Knight said. “Make no mistake about it. What happened inside that residence was nothing short of a massacre. Those children were hunted down and killed.” Knight said investigators didn’t know why the boy’s life was spared. The child “woke up and discovered what happened,” Knight said. The shooting victims were identified as Dylan Candy, 18; Ethan Candy, 14, …

Oklahoma Bus Driver Crashes Into a Building After a Passenger Punches Him, Police Say

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A man was arrested after being accused of punching an Oklahoma City bus driver and causing the bus to crash into a building. Oklahoma City police reported only minor injuries stemming from the Saturday wreck. Authorities said the passenger asked the driver to let him off at an unauthorized stop in northwest Oklahoma City. When the driver declined, the passenger started hitting him. “The suspect then began punching the driver in the face and removed him from the driver seat. This caused the bus to leave the roadway,” said Lt. Jeff Cooper with the Oklahoma City Police Department. The bus crashed into a lumber business. Two people inside the building were unhurt, police said. Five passengers were on the bus when it crashed and one was hospitalized with minor injuries, police said. Oklahoma City plans to have the country’s tallest skyscraper

Oklahoma City plans to have the country’s tallest skyscraper

In the near future, the tallest skyscraper in America might not appear in New York, or Chicago, or Los Angeles. Instead, it could jolt upward through the comparably sparse Oklahoma City skyline. If realized, the hulking building proposal referred to as the “Legends Tower” would be more than double the height of the city’s next tallest building.  [ Related: The tallest building in the world remains unchallenged—for now ] Oklahoma City’s planning commission approved a height increase request submitted by the tower’s developer last week, nudging the once seemingly unlikely idea close to reality. Designers want the building to soar 1,907 feet high, a number that purposely coincides with the date Oklahoma became a US state. That audacious height would make the Legends Tower more than 200 feet taller than New York’s 1,776-foot One World Trade Center. Globally, only five other buildings are taller. Developers previously suggested a 1750 foot tower prior to the height increase. Clearly, that wasn’t tall enough.  The mixed used tower, as currently proposed, would be mostly residential with 1,750 apartments …
