Jack Fincham: Love Island star wins appeal against prison sentence for dangerous dog offences | Ents & Arts News

Former Love Island winner Jack Fincham has won an appeal against his prison sentence for two dangerous dog offences. Fincham, 32, was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 29 January after pleading guilty to two counts of having a dangerously out-of-control black cane corso. But within hours of the sentencing, he was released on conditional bail and vowed to appeal it. On Friday, Fincham, who won the ITV dating show with Dani Dyer in 2018, was told by a judge at Basildon Crown Court that the original sentence had not been “just in the circumstances”. That order of 12 weeks custody – suspended for 18 months – has been lengthened by three months, Judge Leigh told the court. Prosecutors said Fincham’s dog, Elvis, …

Port Talbot couple admit ‘dine and dash’ offences with £1,000 in unpaid bills | Wales

A couple from south Wales have admitted carrying out a string of “dine and dash” offences, racking up large bills for food and drink before leaving without paying. Bernard McDonagh, 41, and Ann McDonagh, 39, from Port Talbot, admitted five joint charges of fraud and will be sentenced at Swansea crown court this month. The pair dishonestly obtained food and drink for themselves and their family at four restaurants and one takeaway in south Wales with the unpaid bills totalling more than £1,000. It began in August last year when they defrauded the River House on the waterfront in Swansea of £267 of food and drink. The restaurant said that the couple, after running up a “very hefty bill”, promised to get money from a nearby cash point when their card was declined, but never returned. Speaking after the case, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: “We are delighted to hear justice has, at last, caught up with the pair. We are grateful to the public who have not only been a huge help in …

Police officer pleads guilty to two terror offences over pro-Hamas WhatsApp messages | UK News

A West Yorkshire police officer has pleaded guilty to two terror offences over messages he shared on WhatsApp. PC Mohammed Adil, who is based in Calderdale and is on suspension, admitted two counts of publishing an image in support of banned organisation Hamas at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. The 26-year-old shared the messages on his WhatsApp stories in October and November last year – weeks after the Hamas attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people and saw another 250 being taken hostage. They showed a Hamas fighter wearing a Hamas headband, prosecutor Bridget Fitzpatrick told the court. The image posted on 31 October had writing on it saying: “Today is the time for the Palestinian people to rise, set their paths straight and establish an independent Palestinian state.” It was said to be a quote from the leader of Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Deif. The image posted on 4 November had another message on it, saying: “We will hold accountable all those who occupied our lands and Allah will hold accountable all those who …

Charles Donnelly jailed for nine years for catalogue of sex offences in Fife | UK News

A 70-year-old man has been jailed for nine years for a catalogue of sex offences committed more than three decades ago. Charles Donnelly repeatedly raped a younger woman and subjected a boy and girl to indecent attacks in Fife. Judge Lady Carmichael told the pensioner: “Your offending has caused lasting harm to your victims.” The High Court in Edinburgh heard how he repeatedly assaulted and raped a younger woman between 1977 and 1981. The victim said Donnelly was “helping himself to sex” despite her telling him “no”. He also spanked and indecently assaulted a boy on an occasion between 1976 and 1979. Donnelly’s third victim was subjected to prolonged abuse from the age of five. Between 1983 and 1992, Donnelly molested the girl and carried out sex acts on himself in her presence. The court heard he told the victim not to tell anyone as she would get into trouble if she did. Donnelly pleaded guilty to four offences at the High Court last month. He was sentenced on Tuesday. Sellafield nuclear waste dump to be prosecuted for alleged cybersecurity offences | Energy industry

Sellafield nuclear waste dump to be prosecuted for alleged cybersecurity offences | Energy industry

The Sellafield nuclear waste dump is to be prosecuted for alleged information technology security offences, the industry watchdog has said. The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said on Thursday that it had notified the state-owned Cumbrian nuclear company that it would be prosecuted under industry security regulations. The prosecution follows the Guardian’s revelations last year of multiple cyber failings at the vast site, part of a year-long investigation into cyber hacking, radioactive contamination and an unhealthy workplace culture at Sellafield. The ONR said: “These charges relate to alleged information technology security offences during a four-year period between 2019 and early 2023. There is no suggestion that public safety has been compromised as a result of these issues. The decision to begin legal proceedings follows an investigation by ONR, the UK’s independent nuclear regulator.” Sellafield, which has more than 11,000 staff, was placed into a form of “special measures” for consistent failings on cybersecurity in 2022, according to sources at the ONR and the security services. Among the Guardian’s revelations in December were that groups linked …
