What If College Got Cheaper and No One Noticed?

What If College Got Cheaper and No One Noticed?

It is a basic fact of American life, so widely known that it hardly needs to be said: College is getting ever more unaffordable. In survey after survey, Americans say that the cost of getting a degree just keeps rising. But this basic fact of life is not a fact at all. In reality, Americans are paying less for college, on average, than they were a decade ago. Since the 2014–15 school year, the cost of attending a public four-year university has fallen by 21 percent, before adjusting for inflation, according to College Board data analyzed by Judith Scott-Clayton, a professor of economics and education at Columbia University’s Teachers College. (Nearly three-quarters of American college students attend a public institution.) The cost of attending a private university has risen in raw terms over the same time period, but is down 12 percent in inflation-adjusted dollars. Once tax benefits are factored in, according to a recent Brookings Institution analysis, the average American is paying the same amount for tuition as they were in the 1990s. “People …

Princess Charlotte wore grandma Diana’s famous fashion item and no one noticed

On Thursday, the beautiful Princess Charlotte celebrated her 9th birthday. How quickly has the time gone by? We loved the new royal portrait that the Prince and Princess of Wales released in celebration of her special day. It had such a springtime feel and featured some gorgeous blossoms as well as the royal herself. WATCH: Princess Charlotte and Princess Kate sharing sweet moments Charlotte was last seen in public on Christmas Day when she walked to church with her family and second cousin Mia Tindall at Sandringham, so the picture was a fabulous update for royal fans. © The Princess of WalesPrincess Charlotte on her ninth birthday As always, the portrait was taken by her mother, Princess Kate, at their home in Windsor and the young royal looked in great spirits in the happy shot, which showed her smiling widely. We also spied Charlotte’s hair; a super long, honey-hued hairdo that fell to her waist, by far the longest we have ever seen her mane. We loved the sister of Prince George and Prince Louis’s outfit …

‘I noticed nothing strange’: suspect’s colleagues express shock at Moscow attack | Moscow concert hall attack

Former colleagues and clients at the small barber shop where Muhammadsobir Fayzov once worked were stunned when they saw the news. They knew the 19-year-old as a promising, hard-working stylist, and saw no signs that he and three other Tajik gunmen would be accused of committing last Friday’s bloodbath at a concert city hall in Moscow. “He was regarded as a good barber … I noticed nothing strange about him,” said Yamina Safiyeva, the owner of the barber shop outside Moscow where Fayzov worked three months before the attack, which killed 139 people. On Sunday, Fayzov was brought into a courtroom on a gurney, with a catheter attached and one eye injured or missing. He appeared to fade in an out of consciousness. In the aftermath of Russia’s deadliest terrorist attack in over two decades, limited details have emerged regarding the background of the alleged shooters. Russian authorities have continued to try to tie others to the attack, with FSB head Alexander Bortnikov on Tuesday saying he believed Ukraine, the US and Britain were involved. …

Bride Reveals The Red Flag She Noticed During Husband’s Wedding Speech

Weddings are happy occasions — well, they’re supposed to be. Unfortunately, there are often cases in which something happens to make the wedding less than you hoped it would be. That’s certainly what happened to one bride whose husband gave an off-color wedding speech. A groom gave a wedding speech that had a glaring ‘red flag.’ An anonymous bride posted on Reddit asking for advice after what she felt was a strange speech at her wedding from her husband.  “So, I recently got married to my husband,” she said. “He is a very sweet and kind person.” However, some things about the speech he gave at the wedding weren’t so sweet and kind. People Noticed Something Very Strange About This New “Photo” of Kate Middleton

People Noticed Something Very Strange About This New “Photo” of Kate Middleton

Early Sunday morning, princess of Wales Kate Middleton shared a seemingly harmless Mother’s Day photo of her surrounded by her three children on Instagram. What she likely didn’t expect was the ensuing media chaos following the widespread dissemination of the image across the media. Shortly after the image started circulating online, some of those same agencies, as well as news outlets including the New York Times and the Washington Post, took the image down. Why? The image was more than likely manipulated, as the Associated Press warned in a rare “kill notification.” In a subsequent post explaining its decision, the AP said the image didn’t meet its “editorial standards” which “state that the image must be accurate.” The bizarre incident highlights just how primed we’ve become to notice inconsistencies in photos posted on social media. Especially since AI-powered photo editing tools have become widely accessible, and the lines continue to blur between real and entirely made-up images and even video, netizens have seemingly become extremely wary of manipulation of any kind. And that’s a potentially dangerous, double-edged …

Iran’s troubling move into Africa — and the war in Sudan you haven’t noticed

Iran’s troubling move into Africa — and the war in Sudan you haven’t noticed

Many Americans may understand that the theocratic regime in Iran has for several decades supported and supplied militant Islamist groups in the Arab world, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza and the Houthis in Yemen. But very few have noticed that now Iran has moved into Africa, sending military supplies to the Islamist military government in Sudan, now struggling for survival in the face of a powerful militia and civilian movement that, in 2019, started a democratic revolution to end Islamist rule — with the support of the U.S. and the U.N. After the militias took Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, last April, the Islamist generals moved to Port Sudan on the Red Sea, where Iranian planes loaded with weapons have been landing. That’s not far from Yemen, where the pro-Iranian Houthis now control much of the nation and have recently interrupted international sea lanes, resulting in air strikes by U.S. and British planes. Before the Houthis became a threat to Red Sea security, the Sudanese Islamist government, then on the U.S. list of “terrorist” …

UK retail workers: have you noticed a rise in difficult customer behaviour? | Retail industry

Violence and abuse against shop workers rose last year to 1,300 incidents a day, according to research by the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Incidents ranged from racial abuse and sexual harassment to physical assault and threats with weapons. Thefts have also more than doubled to 16.7m incidents since last year. Several business leaders as well as the BRC have called for violence against shop workers to be made a standalone offence in England and Wales, as it already is in Scotland. If you work in retail, have you noticed a change in customer behaviour? How has it affected you and your colleagues? Have you considered leaving your job due to your experience? Has your employer introduced any measures to help? Share your experience If you are a shop worker or manager and have experienced difficult customer behaviour, we’d like to hear from you. Queen Camilla is ‘rubbing off on the King’ and it’s being noticed | Royal | News

Yes, Charles is running a nation, and king to Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Commonwealth, and while busy doing that, he still makes time for his grandchildren. He’s been seen doting on the Waleses children, playing with them, and even having little Louis on his knee at Wimbledon, with William saying to him, ‘Pa, can Louis sit on your knee?” And it recently came up in Camilla’s podcast, The Reading Room, that he reads to the children and… does the voices. Now, that is a good grandpa. Source link

I added these hip stretches to my strength training sessions and noticed a huge difference after just 10 days

I added these hip stretches to my strength training sessions and noticed a huge difference after just 10 days

I often feel stiff and sore after lifting weights, particularly if I’ve neglected to do any cooldown stretches. My hips are my main problem area, feeling tight and uncomfortable after most gym sessions.  I hate training with already sore muscles, so I decided to try and alleviate my discomfort by adding two simple yoga stretches onto the end of my workouts: frog pose and half pigeon. How to do the exercises 1.  Frog pose (Image credit: Elethia Gay) Start in a table top position. Gently open the knees out to each side and lower yourself onto your forearms, keeping your palms flat on the mat. Hold this position for 5-10 breaths. Extend your arms forward and bring your upper abdomen, chest, and chin to the mat, while keeping your hips stable. If you can, gently move the knees even further outwards, without lifting them off the mat. Hold this deepened pose for four to six breaths. 2.  Half Pigeon Pose (Hold for 4-6 breaths) (Image credit: Elethia Gay) Come into a downward-facing dog position, with …
