Golden Globes Nominations 2025: See Every Nominee Here

Golden Globes Nominations 2025: See Every Nominee Here

As usual, the 2025 Golden Globe nominations are filled with both expected names and ones that came out of left field—typical for the Globes, a show that now seems to be stabilizing again after several uncommonly rocky years. As revealed in December by announcers Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut, Jacques Audiard’s unconventional musical Emilia Pérez leads this year’s nominations with 10 total. This is the most Globe nominations that any musical or comedy has ever received, a haul that gave the Netflix film a welcome burst of momentum after it was snubbed by precursor ceremonies like the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and the Gotham Awards. Brady Corbet’s architecture epic The Brutalist is next in line with seven total nominations, reestablishing the project as an awards favorite after it was surprisingly undernominated by the Independent Spirit Awards. Next on the list is Edward Berger’s papal drama Conclave, which got six nominations, and Anora and The Substance, topping out at five nominations each. Over on the TV side of things, The Bear leads with five …

Harris confirmed as nominee, UK migrant figures out

Picture: Lev Radin/Shutterstock A look ahead at the key events leading the news agenda next week, from the team at Foresight News. Leading the week  With immigration back at the forefront of the political agenda following riots in recent weeks, the Home Office’s latest quarterly figures on immigration and irregular migration drop on Thursday (August 22), giving politicians of all stripes a chance to talk about the underlying causes of this month’s disorder. The Conservatives will use high numbers to jump on the government’s decisions to close asylum seeker camps and abandon the controversial Rwanda scheme – especially in the wake of news over 700 migrants arrived by small boat last weekend – while Labour will point to the rise in immigration throughout the Tories’ 14-year tenure and their failure to reduce numbers while they were in power.  Waiting in the wings is the Reform Party, whose leaders have attacked …

This Golden Globe Nominee Has Joined The Cast Of The Long-Awaited Peaky Blinders Movie

More casting details have been announced for the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. A film based on the Steven Knight’s award-winning BBC drama has been in the pipeline for years, with Cillian Murphy confirming last month that he’d be back in action as Tommy Shelby in a new feature-length story, which is being produced by Netflix. It’s now also been revealed that he’ll be joined in the cast by newcomer Rebecca Ferguson. The Swedish star is best known for her work in films like Dune, The Greatest Showman and the Mission: Impossible series. Rebecca was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the historical drama The White Queen, and more recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series Silo. Rebecca Ferguson at the Dune: Part Two premiere in February Peaky Blinders first aired on the BBC in 2013, and ended up running for a total of six seasons. During its time on air, the show picked up a handful of TV Baftas, with Cillian also picking up a Best Actor nomination at last year’s …

MEPs cast doubt on Malta’s Commission nominee Fearne over criminal charges – POLITICO

MEPs cast doubt on Malta’s Commission nominee Fearne over criminal charges – POLITICO

After a judicial document seen by POLITICO Tuesday evening revealed that Fearne will face charges of fraud and misappropriation in a snowballing case, MEPs suggested the ex-health minister’s nomination could now be in trouble. “The European Parliament holds high standards when it comes to Commissioner-designates’ approval,” Cyrus Engerer, a Maltese MEP from Fearne’s Labour Party, told POLITICO. “Past decisions prove this.” In 2019 the Parliament rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s initial pick for commissioner, Sylvie Goulard, over ethical concerns. MEPs also rejected nominations by Hungary and Romania due to apparent conflicts of interest. Engerer won’t be on the committee to make the call; he announced last month he will not run in the European election in June. Fearne did not respond to a request for comment for this story but has previously defended his record and insisted he “never” broke the law. On Wednesday, he said on Facebook that he had not received any official court summons, and therefore could not comment more on the case. “I can only say that I have always, always …

Jernelle Oh is a Best Actress nominee at Star Awards 2024

Jernelle Oh is a Best Actress nominee at Star Awards 2024

“We watched a few episodes together. He thinks it’s not bad,” she said, with a giggle. “We watched a few episodes together and analysed them scene by scene.” She added, wryly, that he and her parents “are my harshest critics. But, I like it, because that’s how I improve”. In her upcoming drama projects, viewers will get to see a different side of the actress (although whether she can top her “not bad” performance is anybody’s guess). At the moment, she’s filming for the drama Undesirable Crimes alongside Jesseca Liu and Hong Ling, in which she plays an “irritating” reporter “people will hate once they see”. She’s also been cast in the upcoming Little Nyonya spin-off Emerald Hill. And, viewers can catch her on TV in the next couple of months when the drama Love On A Shoestring, a Singapore-Taiwan co-production, airs. From now until May, she’s also doing a series of guests stints on the Mandarin radio channel Capital 985, on Mondays from 12pm to 2pm. Of course, she’ll also be busy preparing for …

First Muslim American appellate court nominee faces uphill battle to salvage nomination

First Muslim American appellate court nominee faces uphill battle to salvage nomination

WASHINGTON (AP) — The nominee who could become the first Muslim American to serve as a federal appellate court judge is fighting back against characterizations of his work by law enforcement groups that are jeopardizing his nomination. The White House and Senate are doubling down on their efforts to win over lawmakers on the fence, but it may be too late. Adeel Mangi received law degrees from Oxford and Harvard. He works in a prestigious law firm and has secured significant legal victories. But his limited volunteer work with two outside groups has imperiled his nomination. Some law enforcement groups have told lawmakers that Mangi’s work as an advisory board member for the Alliance of Families for Justice is disqualifying. That’s peeling off support — not only from key Democrats but from some Republicans who have been at times willing to support President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees. Mangi has taken the unusual step of writing his home state senator to explain his work with the alliance. To counter the police groups in opposition, he and …

White House ramps up defense of embattled Muslim American judicial nominee

White House ramps up defense of embattled Muslim American judicial nominee

WASHINGTON — Facing a potentially devastating Democratic defection in the Senate, the White House is ramping up its fight to confirm an embattled judicial nominee who would be the first Muslim American ever to serve as a U.S. federal appeals court judge. The White House is touting a wave of new law enforcement endorsements for Adeel Mangi to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, building on seven similar organizations that have already backed Mangi, in an attempt to counter what they describe as a Republican-led smear campaign predicated on his religion. “Some Senate Republicans and their extreme allies are relentlessly smearing Adeel Mangi with baseless accusations that he is anti-police,” White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients said in a statement to NBC News. “That could not be further from the truth, and the close-to-a-dozen law enforcement organizations that have endorsed him agree.” On Wednesday, a third Democrat came out against Mangi’s nomination: Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., who joined her home state colleague, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., and centrist Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., in …

Lindsey Graham and other officials react to the death of senator and VP nominee, Joe Lieberman

Joe Lieberman — independent four-term U.S. senator and Al Gore’s Democratic running mate in 2000 — died at the age of 82 on Wednesday, due to complications from a fall in New York, according to a statement from his family.  The first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, Lieberman made a reputation for himself as someone who spoke in favor of abortion rights, gun control and gay rights but, after the attacks of September 11, 2001, gained a bit of heat for his support of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and staunch views on foreign policy. Reacting to the news of his death, Senator Lindsey Graham posted a lengthy tribute to X (formerly Twitter), in which he referred to Lieberman as his “dear friend,” writing, “I feel fortunate to have been in his presence, traveling the world in support of America’s interests as we saw it.” Signing off, “From the Last Amigo.” Barack Obama admitted to not always seeing eye-to-eye with Lieberman in his own statement to social media, but praises him for his “extraordinary career in public service,” writing, “He …

Actor Xu Bin ‘shocked’ he didn’t make Star Awards Top 10 Most Popular Artiste nominee list, says he will work harder

When we asked if he was anticipating his sixth award this year, he said: “I think the award is something that anyone in the industry would hope to receive, myself included. I got my fifth award last year, and it wasn’t easy to get to the halfway mark. It’s been a long and slow journey.” He laughed before adding: “I don’t know when I will get to the end. This year, I was immediately disqualified.” He continued: “I definitely do feel quite disappointed. I feel like there are a lot of people who had expectations of me, including my friends, fans and clients. I feel like I owe them an explanation and I know these people who support me are disappointed (too).” He said he told his supporters that “it’s alright”, and they would simply have to try again next year. He then chuckled before adding: “I have to work harder, and maybe not just appear in one or two dramas that land outside the time frame.” While he was clearly sad about how things …
