Smile 2 star Naomi Scott has added her name to the growing list of recent genre performances that deserve(d) awards consideration. From James McAvoy (Split) and Toni Collette (Hereditary) to Lupita Nyong’o (Us) and Mia Goth (Pearl), Scott is the latest example of an actor whose committed work in a highly difficult role shouldn’t be overlooked just because of the genre in which it resides. Zendaya’s ruthless Tashi Duncan may be a fictional tennis champion in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, but she’s garnered at least one real-life phenom’s approval. Four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka showed love to Challengers on TikTok in a post that has garnered more than 136,000 likes. Tennis star Naomi Osaka offered her response to Luca Guadagnino’s buzzy tennis movie Challengers on Thursday, sharing her own moves on the court set to the movie’s viral techno score.
