UK riots: Child, 11, arrested over Middlesbrough disorder, police say | UK News

An 11-year-old child has been arrested over disorder in Middlesbrough during the UK riots, police have said. Cleveland Police said officers had detained a further 14 people in connection with the unrest on Sunday 4 August. “Teams of officers headed out this morning to target those believed to be involved in the disorder,” the force said. “The ages of those arrested were between 11 years old and 43 years old.” Image: Cleveland Police officers raid a home in Middlesbrough during this morning’s arrest. Middlesbrough v Leeds result:

Middlesbrough v Leeds result:

Leeds have played a game more but the win ensures the Championship promotion race will head into the penultimate weekend in a three way fight for the Premier League prize. Leeds had been gathering momentum since Christmas and looked to have timed their promotion charge to perfection. With long time leaders Leicester City starting to show signs of buckling under pressure and Ipswich Town also looking vulnerable, Daniel Farke’s side looked in irresistible form, right up until the moment they were in position to move ahead of their promotion rivals. Then came the jitters. A defeat at Coventry,  a goalless draw at home to Sunderland and another shock defeat to Blackburn Rovers , meant Leeds were in danger of letting the top two slip away again. Leeds knew they could not afford to lose on this short trip to Middlesbrough. Michael Carrick’s side, unbeaten in nine, were about as dangerous a side as they could have faced in the Championship and when the visitors went a goal down early on, nerves jangled in the away …

Middlesbrough overcome plane drama to bring Southampton down to earth

Middlesbrough overcame an injury crisis and an aborted plane landing to claim a 90th-minute equalising goal that damaged Southampton’s hopes of automatic promotion back to the Premier League. The plane carrying the Middlesbrough squad was almost diverted to Birmingham airport on Thursday evening after a turbulent flight that head coach Michael Carrick said left some of his players “a bit tetchy”. Certainly Southampton manager Russell Martin was feeling that after the frustrating draw – with his side missing a string of chances.  “I was so angry straight after the game so I had to take some time to talk to them [the players],” Martin said. “If you are not going to be clinical at that end, you need to defend your end properly. We didn’t do that.” It hurt even more with Leicester City having been beaten by Bristol City before kick-off.  After failing to take a host of opportunities, with striker Che Adams particularly guilty, Southampton were caught by a sucker punch with Boro forward Emmanuel Latte Lath steering in a header. “Latte is …

Inside the English town where on in seven children are doomed to a life of worklessness | UK | News

An English town is an epicentre of worklessness, dooming young people to unemployment. Middlesbrough in the North East is one of the worst areas in the country for children growing up in workless households. It has the highest proportion in the area, with one in seven children living in homes where nobody in their immediate family has a job. The number of working-age adults who aren’t in work has jumped by over 800,000 to 9.3million since Covid, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Growing up in this kind of household means children are less likely to expect to work themselves, says Heather Insull, strategy manager at Focus Youth North East, which works with young people aged 10 to 18. She estimates around 30pc of the children and teenagers she encounters come from workless households. “Some of the kids have parents and grandparents who also haven’t worked for whatever reason,” Insull told the Telegraph. “For the child, it seems quite normal to them that their parents don’t work. “Some young people when we talk …

Hayden Hackney gives Middlesbrough Carabao Cup advantage over Chelsea | Carabao Cup

Chelsea fans probably did not expect their expensively assembled team to be tortured by a right-winger who cost Middlesbrough a nominal fee when he made the step up from Tooting and Mitcham five years ago. Yet Isaiah Jones is a special talent who, quite apart from destabilising Levi Colwill, created the goal scored by the impressive Hayden Hackney that left the Riverside celebrating like it was 2004. That winner on the night means Michael Carrick’s mid-table Championship side will arrive at Stamford Bridge for the second leg of this semi‑final in a fortnight’s time protecting a potentially vital lead. Although Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League underachievers remain favourites to progress, Boro’s hopes of repeating their feat of 20 years ago and emulating Steve McClaren’s class of 2004 by winning the League Cup are far from extinguished. Chelsea will certainly be unwise to underestimate Jones, not to mention Hackney’s fellow midfielder Dan Barlaser and company for a second time. “It’s difficult to talk about our performance,” said Pochettino, whose £200m-plus midfield were often second‑guessed on a night …
