VR locomotion is a hard problem that has produced all sort of interesting peripherals, from the Virtuix Omni treadmill to the 3DRudder footboard. There’s been a ceiling on success for these sorts of devices, owing to things like price, size and limited adoption of VR headsets. London-based Roto VR is delivering its own solution to the problem of moving in VR in the form of a $799 spinning gaming chair. It’s the first of its kind to boast a “Made for Meta” seal of approval. The system is designed to address issues around 360-degree viewing in the VR space. Roto also claims that the system helps address the very real (trust me) issue of virtual reality motion sickness. Presumably since the motion of the chair is synced with what your eyes see, you’re less likely to get the kind of nausea that stems from a brain-body disconnect. Meta thinks it’s a good idea for students to wear Quest headsets in class

Meta continues to field criticism over how it handles younger consumers using its platforms, but the company is also planning new products that will cater to them. On Monday, the company announced that later this year it will be launching a new education product for Quest to position its VR headset as a go-to device for teaching in classrooms. The product is yet to be named, but in a blog post describing it, Nick Clegg, the company’s president of global affairs — the ex-politician who has become’s Meta’s executive most likely to be delivering messaging around more controversial and divisive topics — said that it will include a hub for education-specific apps and features, as well as the ability to manage multiple headsets at once without having to update each device individually. Business models for hardware and services also have yet to be spelled out. Meta cuts prices for Quest 2 headset and accessories

Months after Meta launched its Quest 3 headset, the company is slashing prices for its older Quest 2 headset by $50 permanently. The 128GB version drops from $299 to $249 and the 256GB version drops from $349 to $299. Notably, the headset has been on sale at the new prices since Black Friday. However, Meta has decided to make these prices permanent. The company is also offering a bunch of Quest 2 accessories at a lower price: Quest 2 Elite Strap with battery: From $119.99 to $89.99 Quest 2 Elite Strap: From $59.99 to $49.99 Quest 2 Carrying Case: From $59.99 to $44.99 Quest 2 Active Pack: From $69.99 to $59.99 Quest 2 Fit Pack: From $49.99 to $39.99 In July 2022, Meta raised the prices of the Quest 2 headset by $100 from $299.99 to $399.99.
