Kim Kardashian‘s cardigan had a story all its own at the 2024 Met Gala.  The 43-year-old mogul added a cozy touch to her red carpet look on Monday, covering her shoulders with a soft, gray sweater. Over two dozen pro-Palestine protesters were arrested on Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Monday evening while marching from a midtown college campus to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to demonstrate in front of the Met Ball, one of the most high-profile events of the year in the city.   The New York Police Department confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the arrests took place at 6:30 p.m. at 80th Street and Madison Avenue, just a block away from the star-studded red carpet event, which was teaming with paparazzi. Waving Palestinian flags and chanting “Gaza! Gaza!”, according to the New York Times, the demonstrators were largely from student groups at Baruch College, Columbia University, and New York University who had gathered to protest the war in Gaza then converged at Hunter College, according to the NYPD.  A total of 27 people were arrested and detained at the city’s 19th precinct on the Upper East Side, according to the NYPD. As far as reasons for skipping the Met Gala go, Katy Perry‘s might be the best.  As celebrity after celebrity walked the carpet at the 2024 Met Gala on the first Monday in May, many were watching and waiting for the “Hot N Cold” singer, 39, to make her grand entrance, only to realize she would not be in attendance again this year.  In an Instagram post, the American Idol judge shared AI photos of herself in gowns matching this year’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” alongside an explanation of her absence from this year’s event. “couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work,” she wrote, hilariously and succinctly summarizing her absence. Firstly, her choices were smart: Galliano is back, like it or not, and his already-cult Maison Margiela Artisanal spring/summer 2024 haute couture collection was indisputably the biggest fashion moment this year so far. It makes sense, then, that Z and Law Roach would look to Galliano to craft the biggest fashion moment of this year’s Met. But also, that they’d consult a designer with such a storied archive. This year’s Met Gala exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is all about reviving archive looks so they can be displayed for the masses, and Zendaya’s look did just that. The gown, which was striped midnight blue and black organza, embellished with flowers, grapes and humming birds, referenced a gown made by Galliano for Dior’s spring/summer haute couture collection back in 1999.
