I was told I had to leave Man City by Pep Guardiola

I was told I had to leave Man City by Pep Guardiola

Back in 2016, Manchester City’s Under-18s had an exciting attack consisting of Phil Foden, Brahim Diaz and Jadon Sancho. One is already a Champions League winner, and another will follow on Saturday night. Add Felix Nmecha, who graduated from the City Football Academy a year or two later than the more recognisable trio, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and there will be four City representatives in Saturday’s showpiece at Wembley. Nmecha was released by City in 2021 in order to boost his career prospects, with his progress at Wolfsburg and Dortmund perhaps a sign they could have earned some profit from him. Sancho’s path is well documented, making the leap to Dortmund where he made his name, before an ill-fated move to Manchester United and now a loan move back to Germany. City have profited by around £20m over the course of his post-City career. ‘It didn’t matter’ – Christian Eriksen makes Man United dressing room claim after hammering

Christian Eriksen has said Manchester United’s players will ‘take the blame’ for losing 4-0 against Crystal Palace in embarrassing fashion in the Premier League on Monday. United were always bound to be challenged against Crystal Palace, who went into the clash four games unbeaten, but it took the hosts just 12 minutes to open the scoring. Casemiro dived in, Michael Olise was given far too much space in midfield and drew first blood. Then, it got worse for United just before half-time when the in-form Jean-Philippe Mateta skipped past Jonny Evans and lashed home a powerful effort beyond a helpless Andre Onana. Relentless Man City keep pressure on Arsenal in Premier League title race

Relentless Man City keep pressure on Arsenal in Premier League title race

He does not believe his team can afford to drop any points as they chase an unprecedented fourth straight English top-flight title. “We prefer they (Arsenal) lose, we cannot control what they do, they make a good result,” said the City boss, whose team are now unbeaten in 31 matches in all competitions. “Four games left, I don’t think we can lose any points and we know exactly what we have to do.” Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest, staring at the trap door, will desperately hope to recover at least one point from their appeal against a four-point deduction for breaking Premier League financial rules. Arsenal chase Arsenal know if City win their remaining games, they cannot be caught but they show no signs of wilting under intense pressure. Arteta’s men silenced the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a three goal blast before half time. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s own goal put Arsenal ahead before Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz netted to leave Arsenal in complete control. Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min struck for Tottenham after the interval to …

Man City crave a Joe Hart return to the fold as Celtic hero gets his wish with emotional Etihad offer

Man City crave a Joe Hart return to the fold as Celtic hero gets his wish with emotional Etihad offer

Manchester City are set to offer Joe Hart an emotional return to the Etihad. The former England No.1 hopes to hang up his gloves at the end of the season as a Double winner as Celtic attempt to retain the title and add the Scottish Cup. And Premier League champions City want to hand their ex-title-winning keeper a chance to come back to the North West of England. The offer will likely be for a non-footballing capacity or an ambassadorial role as Hart remains against a coaching role and City are ready to hold talks. The 37-year-old has still to decide what direction he will go when he retires. Hart won two Premiership titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups in his 11 years at City. The big keeper also hinted earlier this week there could be a chance of him remaining at Celtic Park and he has already discussed that with Brendan Rodgers. It remains to be seen where that would be as Hart has still to do any coaches badges and has …

‘He’s gone’ – Erik ten Hag decision ‘already made’ as Sir Jim Ratcliffe has new manager incoming

‘He’s gone’ – Erik ten Hag decision ‘already made’ as Sir Jim Ratcliffe has new manager incoming

Alan Shearer believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Manchester United hierarchy may have already made their decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as manager. Ten Hag is under increasing pressure at United and his side’s limp collapse in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry – which they only won on penalties after losing a 3-0 lead – has weakened his position. Thomas Tuchel, the current Bayern Munich manager and former boss of PSG and Chelsea, is the latest high-profile name to be linked to the United job with many now expecting Ten Hag to depart when the season ends. The Dutchman called speculation regarding his future “crazy” after the Coventry tie, but Shearer gets the sense that Ten Hag is running out of rope at Old Trafford. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, the former England striker said: “I think the future of the Manchester United manager is determined. Even if they win the FA Cup, I think he’s gone, I don’t think it matters. ALSO READ: Ten Hag responds to ‘crazy’ speculation over …

Alan Shearer showed rigour and bravery to stand up to Pep Guardiola’s rant over fixture congestion

Alan Shearer showed rigour and bravery to stand up to Pep Guardiola’s rant over fixture congestion

Have we reached peak pundit? Three were stationed close to the FA Cup and BBC Sport’s pitchside plinth after Manchester City’s win over Chelsea, alongside Gary Lineker, and Jermaine Jenas on gantry detail. So five former footballers to pontificate over the 22 involved at Wembley, a 1:4.4 ratio for now but due to rising budgets and inflation over the next decade we can look forward to the era of one ex-pro per player. Pep Guardiola arrived for his post-match debrief, greeted with risky familiarity by Lineker who plonked a welcoming hand onto the manager’s shoulder. No complaints from Guardiola but in doing so Lineker wobbled and nearly unseated the trophy from its table off his starboard bow. Forget about the BBC Gladiators revival, we almost had a reboot of Auntie’s Sporting Bloomers. The discussion which followed summed up several unwelcome trends in football. Lineker shaped for a gentle line of inquiry about the challenges of facing Chelsea after defeat to Real Madrid in midweek, and the pride Guardiola surely felt about his players making it …

Kobbie Mainoo sends Manchester United clear message amid Man City transfer interest

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has sent a clear message about his adoration for the club amid links with Manchester City. Mainoo has enjoyed a breakthrough season with United, with his outstanding displays leading to the teenager earning his first England caps and becoming a potentially key player for the Three Lions at the upcoming Euros. This trajectory was earmarked for Mainoo during the summer, before his injury, when he impressed as part of Erik ten Hag’s side in pre-season. There were reports in November that rivals Man City could look to try and tempt Mainoo away from Old Trafford. However, when celebrating his 19th birthday on Friday, Mainoo demonstrated his long-standing love for the club. Premier League set for imminent points deduction update amid Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City impact

Premier League set for imminent points deduction update amid Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City impact

Nottingham Forest’s Premier League appeal against an imposed four-point penalty will be heard next week. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could move further clear of the bottom three if, like Everton, there is any sort of reduction when the outcome is made. Forest became the second side to fall foul of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs) earlier this year. The Toffees were first and had their initial ten-point deduction cut down to six after an appeal. Forest currently sit just one point above Luton Town in 17th. They are within another point of Everton ahead of an upcoming vital meeting between the two sides. Sean Dyche’s men are still waiting for the outcome of their second set of charges from the league over a two-point sanction imposed for going over he £105million allowed loss-making threshold for the most recent period. An outcome over that is not expected to be reached until close to the end of the season. Forest’s appeal is not expected to take longer than one day, the BBC report, and is …
