Sadiq Khan blasted over ‘cash grab’ ULEZ as 100,000 fines issued in six weeks | Politics | News

Sadiq Khan has been accused of “nothing but a cash grab” over ULEZ after figures showed there were almost 100,000 fines in six weeks after the expansion. Some 97,786 tickets were issued between September 26 and November 6 last year. Tory London mayoral candidate Susan Hall, who obtained the figures from Mayor’s Question Time, said: “Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion is nothing but a cash grab, ripping off Londoners and hitting the poorest hardest. “He should be ashamed of the damage he has done to families, small businesses and charities with this disastrous policy. “I will scrap it on day one, no ifs no buts, and put an end to this eight years of failure under Sadiq Khan.” Fines for cars, vans and motorbikes are £90 if paid within 14 days or £180 after that. Mr Khan’s expansion of the ULEZ from central London to the whole of the capital came into force on August 29 2023 in a bid to boost air quality. ‘Floating’ bus stops ‘feel dangerous’ as unruly cyclists refuse to give way to pedestrians

An example of a floating bus stop in London where pedestrians risk being hit by cyclists – Geoff Pugh Sadiq Khan’s cycling tsar has acknowledged floating bus stops “feel dangerous” because many cyclists refuse to give way at zebra crossings, but that there was a “low risk” of an accident, The Telegraph can reveal. Leaked documents show Transport for London’s (TfL) latest research has found 60 per cent of cyclists do not obey road rules by giving way to pedestrians at crossings. The London transport authority’s study of controversial floating bus stops – where pedestrians cross a cycle lane to reach the “floating” bus stop – also reveals two pedestrians were seriously injured and two suffered minor injuries after being hit by cyclists at such sites. The data prompted calls for Will Norman, the London Mayor’s “cycling commissioner”, to resign because he has repeatedly ignored pleas to scrap floating bus stops. Mr Khan commissioned research in March after a Telegraph survey found only one in 10 cyclists give way at zebra crossings. Cyclists in London …

Laurence Fox ponders another run at becoming London Mayor | Politics | News

“I’m not going to stand by and watch the city I live in and love be destroyed before our eyes. It is always my wish to collaborate with the other small parties, but they have refused. Watch this space.” On December 21 he called Mr Khan “scum”. He said: “Found out today that the @metpoliceuk are keeping my kids iPads for Christmas, whilst they continue to “investigate” me. “In a city where knife murder is rampant, taking iPads off two boys who have done nothing wrong is really going to help. “The @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan is scum.” Mr Fox – who is a crusader against woke issues and cancel culture – first put his hat into the ring in the hope of becoming Mayor of London in 2021 but lost his deposit as failed to secure enough votes and finished in sixth place. The Lewis actor got involved in politics in 2020 when he appeared on BBC’s Question Time and made controversial comments – accusing an audience member of racism for calling him a “white privileged …
