Jack Nicholson has been a movie heavyweight for decades. He’s the recipient of three Academy Awards and six Golden Globes and is thought of as one of the most prolific and esteemed actors from the golden age of Hollywood. Having worked in La La Land since 1958 – the year he made his big screen debut at age 21 – it’s not surprising that Jack has a stunningly impressive home in the affluent area. The One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest actor bought a home on Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills in 1969.  Jack paid $5 million for the home at the time and, according to MailOnline, it’s now worth more than double. As well as featuring Daredevil himself in action, complete with bone-crunching fight sequences, the trailer also sees Jon Bernthal return as The Punisher and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, who appears to have ascended to become the Mayor of New York. However, eagle-eyed viewers also spotted a brief glimpse of Michael Gandolfini, the son of Sopranos star James Gandolfini, in an unspecified role. The 25-year-old, who played a younger version of …

The former quarterback, 54, disclosed the diagnosis as he testified before the House Ways and Means Committee during a hearing on welfare reform. Favre, who has never been criminally charged, was accused in a civil lawsuit of misusing funds from Mississippi’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and receiving $1.1 million, which he has since returned, for motivational speeches that he never gave. In an admission to the court, Favre said: “Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others, and I’m sure you’ll understand why it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with …

Evening Standard ‘legend’ Diane Chanteau: ‘Bold, brash, brilliant and ballsy’

Former Evening Standard journalist Diane Chanteau, pictured in 1981. Picture: Roger Beam/Evening Standard Diane Chanteau, who has died aged 71, was fun, feisty, irrepressible, mercurial, and a force of nature. ‘Chanteau’, as she was widely known, was an old-style news reporter, femme de caractère and a Fleet Street legend. While she may not have been recognised outside the journalistic bubble, (although a certain Margaret Thatcher could pick her out by name among the press pack), she was respected and loved by all who worked with her at the Irish Press in Dublin and, later, at the London Evening Standard under the editorship of the great Charles Wintour.  The late Nicholas Tomalin codified the qualities essential for real success in journalism: ratlike cunning, a plausible manner and a little literary ability. Diane Chanteau ticked all the boxes, and then some. She was endlessly curious, resolutely determined, and a committed contrarian. Some might say bloody-minded. But her innate charm and infectious gap-toothed grin were enough to deflect the wrath of a news desk, especially as she invariably came …

Bullied, belittled but indisputably brilliant: how Victoria Pendleton survived everything – and became a cycling legend | Victoria Pendleton

Victoria Pendleton is driving us to the stables in Dorset. We’re off to see her two horses, Vesper and Sarah. She has two bags with her – one containing her cycling gold medals, the other crammed with carrots and apples. She is convinced she’s going to feed the horses the medals. At times, you sense she wouldn’t mind. Ask Pendleton for her greatest achievement in sport, and she’ll tell you about an event that occurred after she retired. She’d only been riding horses for a year when she raced at Cheltenham in 2016, finishing two and a half lengths behind the great Nina Carberry in the Foxhunter Chase. She’s never felt so elated, she says. Does that mean more than the gold medals? “In some ways, because it was totally unexpected. You’re dealing with a live animal so you never know what’s going to happen. All I went in with was my courage – my balls and balance, and nothing else.” Pendleton is driving her little black sports car, dressed in black tracksuit bottoms and …

New female-led Zelda game announced by Nintendo to surprise of fans | The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo surprised fans yesterday by announcing a new chapter in its 40-year-old Zelda saga, one of the Japanese video game titan’s biggest franchises. During an event broadcast on the web, the firm said The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is scheduled for release on the Switch console on 26 September. Eiji Aonuma, producer of the Zelda series, said on a webcast that fans would be able to play as Princess Zelda herself rather than the elf-like warrior Link – a first for an official entry into the game’s canon. “This time around Link has vanished and it’s up to Princess Zelda to step into the protagonist’s role,” Aonuma said. Each new chapter of Zelda is eagerly awaited by fans – the franchise has racked up well over 140 million sales since it began in 1986. Last year’s edition, Tears of the Kingdom, sold 10 million copies in just three days. Nintendo showed some gameplay from the new title during the webcast, revealing cartoon-style graphics similar to 2019’s Link’s Awakening rather than the sleek realism …

Martial arts legend Sammo Hung discusses his career

Martial arts legend Sammo Hung discusses his career

And Hung sees no plans for retirement in the future. Instead, he plans to be “retired from work but not from society”.  “When God has granted you this opportunity and aspiration, you can still act, dream, and ‘scold people’, why would you want to retire? “Unless you have really (ran) out of ideas, and you have no more energy left, and it feels like you don’t know anything anymore, then yes, (you should) retire,” he said.  Hung’s love for the craft can also be seen in the high standards that he sets for himself, sharing an anecdote where he once had to retake a scene 108 times for a film he was shooting.  “When you’re shooting a film, you have a vision of how you want the framing to look…It’s only right that you have an idea and principle, you can’t just be satisfied with any level of standards.”  When asked what is one piece of advice he would give to young filmmakers, Hung said: “Perseverance.”  He explained that the current environment for filmmaking is …
