Orlando Bloom is paying tribute to a late co-star, English actor Bernard Hill, after his passing on Sunday, May 5 at the age of 79. As far as reasons for skipping the Met Gala go, Katy Perry‘s might be the best.  As celebrity after celebrity walked the carpet at the 2024 Met Gala on the first Monday in May, many were watching and waiting for the “Hot N Cold” singer, 39, to make her grand entrance, only to realize she would not be in attendance again this year.  In an Instagram post, the American Idol judge shared AI photos of herself in gowns matching this year’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” alongside an explanation of her absence from this year’s event. “couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work,” she wrote, hilariously and succinctly summarizing her absence. Katy Perry was one of the most talked-about stars on this year’s Met Gala red carpet – which is a pretty impressive feat considering she wasn’t even there. And apparently even Katy’s mum was fooled by the image, as revealed in an Instagram post. “Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work,” Katy joked, alongside a photo of a text from her mum that read: “Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float.” Katy apparently replied: “Lol mom the AI got you too! BEWARE!” The singer claimed she was in the studio on the night of the Met Ball, working on her upcoming sixth album. Katy Perry has pulled off some pretty unreal looks at past Met Galas but nothing compares to this year: The images that surfaced of Perry on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art are actually not real. The superstar singer went viral on Monday night during the thick of the Met Gala coverage after images made the rounds online that seemingly showed Perry on theme with a billowing floral gown. The dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard and blends seamlessly with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
