Martin Freeman Addresses Age Gap Controversy With Jenna Ortega In Miller’s Girl

Martin Freeman Addresses Age Gap Controversy With Jenna Ortega In Miller’s Girl

Martin Freeman has responded to the backlash his latest film, Miller’s Girl, received for the massive age gap between the Hobbit star and his co-star Jenna Ortega. In the erotic thriller, which was released in cinemas earlier this year, an 18-year-old student develops an inappropriate relationship with her writing teacher. The Wednesday star, who is 21, is 31 years younger than Martin, who is 52. Miller’s Girl received criticism prior to and after its release, with users on X, formerly Twitter, discussing its lead actor’s “disturbing” relationship in the movie. In an interview with British outlet The Times published over the weekend, Martin said the movie isn’t intended to glorify age-gap romances and that it’s “grown-up and nuanced”. “It’s not saying, ‘Isn’t this great?’” Martin said of his and Jenna’s relationship in the film. Calling the backlash against Miller’s Girl a “shame”, Martin went on to note how movies with controversial topics tend to garner criticism. He brought up fellow actor Liam Neeson in Steven Spielberg’s Holocaust drama Schindler’s List as an example of how …

The acclaimed Netflix series, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday Addams, was renewed for a second season all the way back in January 2023. Following some strike-related production delays, it seems things are finally getting underway. Season 1 of Wednesday featured a mix of storylines for the heroine of the Addams Family spinoff. She navigated a new school for outcasts, Nevermore Academy, juggled a love triangle between Tyler (Hunter Doohan) and Xavier (Percy Hynes White) and investigated a murder mystery. The season earned multiple major nominations, including nods at the 2023 Emmy Awards for Ortega’s leading role, director Tim Burton and Outstanding Comedy Series. Here’s everything we know about Wednesday season 2: PLOT Ortega is adding a producer title to her credits for season 2 — allowing her to take part in the creative process and help in shaping the upcoming storylines. 25 Best Celebrity Stylists 2024 For Cardi B, Emma Stone & More

25 Best Celebrity Stylists 2024 For Cardi B, Emma Stone & More

It’s been a year — one in which Barbie pink dominated fashion, the box office and the Oscar red carpet, notably on America Ferrera, who glittered in a custom Atelier Versace sheath, courtesy of stylist Karla Welch. Lest we forget, a side effect of the SAG-AFTRA strike was red carpets being rolled up for four months — but not before Cardi B shut down the Met Ball in Chenpeng and Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt hit the London premiere (an hour early, so the cast could attend before the strike began) in Alexander McQueen, as selected by Jessica Paster. Post-strike, stars like Hunter Schafer, decked out in ethereal Prada as styled by Dara, came back shining more brightly than ever at the Golden Globes. And who doesn’t love a Hollywood icon comeback? The fashion world trumpeted Demi Moore, who wore a Balmain swan as procured by Brad Goreski to the Feud: Capote vs. The Swans’ NYC premiere. Driving the avant-garde menswear moments were Rustin’s Colman Domingo and Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan, with their respective stylists Wayman Bannerman …

For Michael Keaton, Becoming Beetlejuice Again Was “Like Demon Possession”

For Michael Keaton, Becoming Beetlejuice Again Was “Like Demon Possession”

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice….well, you know the rest. Thirty-six years after the original film hit theaters, Oscar nominee Michael Keaton’s zany, mischievous demon will return in the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, on September 6. In a first look for EW, director Tim Burton spilled some deets about the Deetz family and his follow-up to the cult classic 1988 film. The sequel reunites Keaton’s titular demon with Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder’s stepmother-stepdaughter duo, Lydia and Delia Deetz. It also introduces Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s daughter.  The original hit film followed recently deceased couple Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin), who called upon eccentric demon Beetlejuice to scare the Deetz family out of their home. According to Burton, the sequel jumps decades into the future and kicks off with a death in the Deetz family. When asked if the death might be Lydia’s father, Charles Deetz—played in the original film by Jeffrey Jones—Burton replied with a cryptic “we’ll see.” (In 2003, Jones pleaded no contest to employing a 14-year-old boy to pose …

Jenna Ortega Thinks We Need More Weird Stories Like ‘Beetlejuice’

Jenna Ortega Thinks We Need More Weird Stories Like ‘Beetlejuice’

What did you mean when you said the episodes are more like movies? I mean, in the first season we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like Prom Night, a little bit, or Carrie. Every episode [of season two] that I’ve read so far is like that. It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for, because to pull that off for eight episodes is, I think, really incredible and really lucky. You’d been working for a long time before things really took off. I have been doing this for 12 years. It’s weird to look back on all the experiences that I’ve had doing the job that I do. And then to be here now is…I don’t know, I feel like it’s some sort of sick prank. You must have vivid memories of your early years, auditioning …

Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams are in talks to join Taika Waititi’s next movie, Sony 3000’s Klara and the Sun. Waititi has been attached to the project since the spring, with the film adapting the novel from Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go author Kazuo Ishiguro. The newsletter The InSnieder first reported the news of Ortega boarding the project, while Deadline broke news of Adams’ casting. Ortega has a full slate, recently completing Beetlejuice 2 and also has season two of her Netflix hit Wednesday to film in the coming months. Her feature Miller’s Girl arrived in theaters Jan. 26. Last year, she starred in Scream VI, and made waves by opting not to return to the Spyglass franchise for a seventh installment. Adams will next appear in Marielle Heller’s Nightbitch from Searchlight. She is a six-time Oscar nominee for roles in films such as Vice, The Fighter and Doubt. Ishiguro published Klara and the Sun in 2021, with the project told from the point of view of Klara, a robot companion. Ortega will …

Jenna Ortega Recalls ‘Insane’ Time on ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Set: ‘I Can’t Wait for People to See’ (Exclusive)

Jenna Ortega made her show-stopping Emmys debut on Monday. The 21-year-old actress arrived at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles looking as glamorous as ever in a strapless floral dress by Dior.  Speaking to ET’s Kevin Frazier on the red carpet, Ortega revealed that her dress took approximately 600 hours to make because it was handsewn. “I think because of all the little beads and there was a lot of work put into this,” she reveals. “I feel really, really nervous. It’s like an art piece, I don’t want to mess it up.” It’s a big night of firsts for the rising star. Ortega is nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her performance in Netflix’s Wednesday. She’s facing off against Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face). The nomination also makes Ortega the second youngest woman ever to be nominated in the category, coming in three years older than Patty Duke, who was 17 when she was …

Jenna Ortega, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo Pose Inside THR Photo Booth

“Where’s the campaign already,” reads the caption underneath Robin Thede’s new Instagram photo featuring the Black Lady Sketch Show creator flanked by Colman Domingo and husband Raul Domingo. The stunning black-and-white image was shot by photographer Ryan Slack on Saturday night inside The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive photo booth during the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s 17th annual Evening Before benefit. While some stars were rounding the troops for group shots, others like Thede and the Domingos ducked inside Slack’s booth for intimate shots. In fact, demand was so high for the exclusive portrait session that so many queued up, stretching the wait time to 30 minutes. It was well worth it for stars like Jenna Ortega, who posed with stylist Enrique Melendez, The Color Purple star Danielle Brooks, who reunited with Orange Is the New Black costar Laverne Cox, Succession star J. Smith-Cameron, Heather Graham, Mean Girls musical star Auli’i Cravalho, and collaborators on streaming shows Gen V and Never Have I Ever.
