Six Rumored iPhone 16 Camera Upgrades Coming This Year

Six Rumored iPhone 16 Camera Upgrades Coming This Year

As anticipation builds for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series, the rumor mill has highlighted some potential camera upgrades that could change how we use our iPhones for photography. The camera system has always been a cornerstone of Apple’s iPhone, and this year Apple appears set to push the envelope even further. As the iPhone 16 launch in September approaches, all eyes will be on how the following changes might maintain Apple’s competitive edge in an increasingly crowded market.1. Vertical Camera Layout iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus Apple’s iPhone 16 base models will feature a vertical camera arrangement with a pill-shaped raised surface, instead of a diagonal camera arrangement like the iPhone 15. The new camera bump features two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultrawide cameras. The vertical camera layout is expected to enable Spatial Video recording, which is currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models.2. Ultra Wide Lens Upgrade iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide …

All iPhone 16 Models to Feature Action Button, But Usefulness Debated

All iPhone 16 Models to Feature Action Button, But Usefulness Debated

Last September, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro models debuted with a new customizable Action button, offering faster access to a handful of functions, as well as the ability to assign Shortcuts. Apple is poised to include the feature on all upcoming iPhone 16 models, so we asked iPhone 15 Pro users what their experience has been with the additional button so far. The Action button replaces the switch that activates Ring and Silent on Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro models, while the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models retain the traditional Ring/Silent switch. By default, the Action button still activates these two functions via a long press, but users can also make it activate a range of other functions, including quickly opening the camera app or enabling the flashlight, activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate, and accessibility features like Magnifier. Of around 7,000 MacRumors readers who responded to our poll on social media, just over half (50.6%) said they often forgot the Action button is even there, while over a quarter of respondents (26.8%) said …

Both iPhone 16 Pro Models to Feature 256GB Base Storage, Claims Sketchy Rumor

Both iPhone 16 Pro Models to Feature 256GB Base Storage, Claims Sketchy Rumor

Apple will allegedly offer both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with a minimum 256GB of storage, doing away with the 128GB starting option on its smaller Pro model for the first time. Currently, Apple’s 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 and comes with the minimum 128GB of storage, while the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 with a minimum 256GB of storage. However, according to a post on X (Twitter) by LeaksApplePro, Apple will bump up the base storage of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro to 256GB to match the minimum capacity of the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max, while the starting price of Apple’s smaller Pro model will remain at $999. The X account has no recent track record for accurate Apple leaks or rumors, so we are filing this one under sketchy. Having said that, the claim is not outside the realm of possibility. If Apple drops 128GB as the base on the iPhone 16 Pro, that will leave three Pro storage options across the board: …

iPhone 16 Pro Camera May Be Less Prone to Lens Flare and Ghosting

iPhone 16 Pro Camera May Be Less Prone to Lens Flare and Ghosting

Apple is testing a new anti-reflective optical coating technology for future iPhone cameras that could improve the quality of photos by reducing artifacts like lens flare and ghosting, claims a rumor out of Korea. According to the news aggregator account “yeux1122” on the Naver blog, citing a company source within Apple’s supply chain, Apple is looking at introducing new atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment into the iPhone camera lens manufacturing process. ALD involves depositing materials one atomic layer at a time onto a substrate, allowing for extremely precise control over thickness and composition. Its use allows manufacturers to apply very thin layers of materials onto semiconductor devices, including camera components. In terms of camera lenses, ALD can be used to apply anti-reflective coatings, which can help to reduce photographic artifacts like streaks of light and halos that can occur in the final image when a bright light source such as the sun shines directly into the lens. ALD can also reduce ghosting, a type of image distortion where faint, secondary images appear in the photo, …

iPhone 16 Rumored to Feature Even Thinner Bezels

iPhone 16 Rumored to Feature Even Thinner Bezels

Some iPhone 16 models will feature thinner bezels thanks to Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, The Elec reports. BRS technology allows for a more compact and efficient layout of the screen’s underlying circuitry, enabling slimmer bezels without compromising on the display’s performance or the device’s overall form factor. This requires precise and advanced manufacturing techniques, given the complexity of tighter circuit placement and the need for bending some wiring downwards beneath the bezel. Display Driver ICs (DDIs), the components at the center of this manufacturing challenge, control the activation and illumination of pixels on the OLED panel. To meet Apple’s requirements, LG Display is apparently diversifying its DDI supply chain, bringing on board Novatech from Taiwan alongside its existing supplier, LX Semicon. This move is designed to increase quality control while reducing costs. It is not clear whether the slimmer bezel technology is destined for the standard ‌iPhone 16‌ models, the iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max, or both. It may be more likely to appear singularly in the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ models …

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Design Showcased By Dummy Models

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Design Showcased By Dummy Models

One of the best looks yet at the design of Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models today emerged online. The images, posted on X by Sonny Dickson, show four dummy models representing the ‌iPhone 16‌, ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌, ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max. These casts, usually milled from a solid piece of aluminum, are designed to help accessory makers ensure that their products will precisely fit the final devices. The dummy models provide a clear look at the all-new “Capture” button across all four models. The slightly larger size of the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max is also evident, due to the display size increase from 6.1- to 6.3-inches and 6.7- to 6.9-inches. They also show the ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus’s vertical rear camera and Action button. While the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max gained the Action button last year, the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus still have the traditional mute switch. iPhone 16 Pro Models Could Feature New Polished Titanium Finish

iPhone 16 Pro Models Could Feature New Polished Titanium Finish

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will use an improved process for finishing and coloring titanium, claims a new rumor out of Korea. According to news aggregator account “yeux1122” on the Naver blog, the new process will make the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max look more polished than the iPhone 15 Pro models, which have a brushed finish. The improved manufacturing process will allegedly result in a glossy appearance that is more akin to the heavily polished stainless steel material used in previous Pro iPhones. However, the new titanium finish will be less prone to scratches compared to stainless steel. The ‌‌brushed finish on ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ models‌‌ is considerably less reflective than the finish of previous Pro iPhones. It is less prone to fingerprints and also reduces scratch visibility. Apart from looks though, Apple’s use of a titanium frame for its ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ devices also cut down the weight of the devices. The ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max are approximately nine percent lighter than the iPhone 14 …

iPhone 16: Accessory Maker Prepares for All-New Capture Button

At least one accessory maker is already preparing for the iPhone 16’s rumored Capture button, according to an image shared today by Sonny Dickson. Dickson showed off a third-party iPhone 16 Pro case that includes a cutout below the power button on the right edge, which is where the Capture button is expected to be located. It is unclear if the accessory maker has direct knowledge of the new button, or if it is simply aware of the rumor, but it is betting on the change happening. MacRumors was first to report about Apple’s plans to add a Capture button to all iPhone 16 models launching later this year. The button reportedly provides quick access to various camera controls for capturing photos and video. Specifically, it was reported that users will be able to zoom in and out by swiping left and right on the button, focus on a subject with a light press, and start a video recording with a more forceful press. The button’s touch sensitivity, and the fact it is expected to …
