Customizing Your iPhone 16 Images With Photographic Styles

Customizing Your iPhone 16 Images With Photographic Styles

One of the major new software-based camera features in the iPhone 16 models is support for a wider range of Photographic Styles, complete with more granular controls to make for a setup where you can create a customized look for all of your images. Photographic Styles isn’t a feature that’s quite as easy to use as something as simple as a filter, so we thought we’d delve into how it works and how to get the most from it. Available Photographic Styles Photographic Styles aren’t new, but with prior iPhone models, there were only four options: Rich Contrast, Vibrant, Warm, and Cool. On the ‌iPhone 16‌, there are several more pre-set styles to choose from. Cool Rose Neutral Rose Gold Gold Amber Standard (No edits) Vibrant Natural Luminous Dramatic Quiet Cozy Ethereal Muted Black and White Stark Black and White All of the styles have varying Tone, Color, and Palette settings, that correspond to brightness, saturation, and effect intensity. How Photographic Styles Work According to Apple, on the ‌iPhone 16‌ models, Photographic Styles adjust specific …

iFixit Teardown Provides Look Inside iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

iFixit Teardown Provides Look Inside iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

Earlier this week, repair site iFixit took apart the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to demonstrate the new battery removal process that uses electricity for adhesive removal, and today, iFixit is back with a teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max. Apple’s ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ models do not have the same simplified battery removal process as the ‌iPhone 16‌, with Apple instead using traditional stretch release adhesive for its pricier iPhones. It’s still easier to get inside, though, because you can do so through the back of the iPhone rather than the display, which can be easily damaged. Apple encased the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ battery in metal like the ‌iPhone 16‌ models, but the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max does not have the metal casing around its battery, and it’s not clear why. iFixit called the decision to use the metal-encased battery in just the 16 Pro and not the 16 Pro Max “perplexing.” The LiDAR Scanner is more accessible, which makes it easier to access for repairs. In prior Pro …

iPhone 16 Pro Max: Review and Unboxing

iPhone 16 Pro Max: Review and Unboxing

Happy iPhone 16 launch day! ‌iPhone 16‌ and iPhone 16 Pro models are now in the hands of customers around the world. We took a look at the iPhone 16 already, and now we’re back with an unboxing and quick review of the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and Pro Max, Apple’s higher-end flagship devices. Unboxing a new iPhone got a little more boring this year, because for the first time, Apple’s removed the stickers from the box. No more stickers and no more charger – there’s just an ‌iPhone‌ and a cable in there. Early leaks of the new “Desert” titanium shade made it look rather unappealing, but in person, the color is a soft, subtle gold with a darker shade on the casing and a lighter shade at the back. It’s not ugly at all, and there’s even a bit of pink in there so in some light, it’s close to a rose gold. We’ve also got a white titanium ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌, and it’s fine. It’s like the white titanium from last year, and …

The iPhone 16 is Getting a New Button: Here’s What It Can Do

Multiple rumors have suggested that the iPhone 16 models are going to have an all-new button that’s designed to make it easier to capture photos when the devices are held in landscape mode. Apple calls the button the Capture Button internally, and it is going to be one of the most advanced buttons that’s been introduced to date with support for multiple gestures and the ability to respond to pressure. Here’s everything the button will be able to do, according to rumors: Lightly press on the button to autofocus while capturing an image or video. Press harder on the button to take a photo. Swipe left and right on the button to zoom in and out. There may also be a gesture for switching between photo mode and video mode, similar to how you can capture a video with a press and swipe in the iPhone camera app. The ability to autofocus with a light press on the button will be a gesture that DSLR camera owners are used to, as this is often how …

iPhone 16 Pro Rumored to Feature 20% Brighter Display

iPhone 16 Pro Rumored to Feature 20% Brighter Display

The iPhone 16 Pro may feature a display that is up to 20% brighter for typical SDR content, according to the Weibo leaker known as “Instant Digital.” In a recent post, the Weibo user claimed that the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ will feature up to 1,200 nits of typical SDR brightness – a 20% increase over the current models. Peak HDR brightness will apparently remain the same at 1,600 nits. The iPhone 14 Pro touted a significant increase in brightness over its predecessor, featuring up to 400 nits higher HDR brightness. However, the iPhone’s typical SDR brightness has been the same at 1,000 nits since the introduction of the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. The ‌iPhone‌’s typical SDR is used in the majority of situations, so a 20% increase in standard brightness would be a significant upgrade. Instant Digital has a mixed track record for Apple rumors, but has provided some strikingly accurate information, such as the imminent launch of 2023’s Yellow iPhone 14, the frosted back glass of the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, …

iPhone 16 Models Rumored to Come in These Colors

iPhone 16 Models Rumored to Come in These Colors

Apple will unveil its new iPhone 16 lineup in a range of new colors later this year in the fall. Here are all the rumored colors so far for the four models: ‌iPhone 16‌, ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus In the last few years, ‌iPhone‌ lineups have launched with five color options. This year, however, Apple could buck that trend for the 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 16‌ and 6.7-inch ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus. At least one of the standard models will come in more color options than ever before, claims one rumor. According to the Weibo-based leaker “Fixed focus digital,” Apple’s upcoming larger 6.7-inch ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus model will come in as many as seven colors that either build upon the existing five colors in the standard iPhone 15 lineup, or recast them in a new finish. The following table shows the existing ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus color options alongside the colors rumored for the ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus: ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus (2023) ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus (2024) Blue …

iPhone 16 Lineup Could Feature Slimmer MagSafe Components

iPhone 16 Lineup Could Feature Slimmer MagSafe Components

This year’s iPhone 16 lineup could see a slight change to the MagSafe alignment magnets compared to previous generations, according to images shared by French case company ShopSystem [Google Translate]. Casemaking molds for the ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup appear to show a thinner design for the attachment ring magnets and for the single alignment magnet, relative to equivalent molds for the iPhone 15 lineup. The report suggests ‌MagSafe‌ accessory manufacturers may need to adapt their products to fit the new system, but this seems very unlikely as any updated ‌MagSafe‌ system will almost certainly be backwards compatible. Presuming the thinner magnets depicted in these molds are accurate, it’s unclear if there are additional changes to ‌MagSafe‌ in the upcoming iPhone lineup that could extend to the charging technology. One rumor has, however, indicated the ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup could see increased MagSafe charging speeds with support for up to 20 watts compared to the current standard of 15 watts. iPhone 16 Again Rumored to Feature Color-Infused Back Glass

iPhone 16 Again Rumored to Feature Color-Infused Back Glass

For the upcoming iPhone 16, Apple will adopt the same color-infused back glass that features on the standard iPhone 15 models, claims a new rumor out of China. Last year, Apple debuted a custom dual-ion exchange glass process on the non-premium iPhone 15 models that gives the rear glass layer a frosted effect that contrasts with the main frame color. Apple’s description of the effect on the iPhone 15: “For the first time in a smartphone, colour is infused throughout the back glass, creating five beautiful colours. The back glass is strengthened with an optimised dual-ion exchange process before being polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish.” According to the Weibo-based leaker “Fixed focus digital,” who claims to have seen the iPhone 16 color scheme, Apple will use the same process for the back glass on the new models, which could come in as many as seven colors this year as opposed to five. Late last month, another Weibo source suggested Apple could extend its dual-ion exchange glass process …

iPhone 16 Lineup Dummies Show How Four Model Sizes Compare

One of the best looks yet at the rear design and increased size of Apple’s iPhone 16 models was today shared online. The images, posted on X by Sonny Dickson, show four dummy models representing the ‌iPhone 16‌, iPhone 16 Pro, ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max. These units are designed to take the place of real devices for display or testing purposes. The dummy models provide a clear look at the slightly larger size of the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max, which are expected increase from 6.1- to 6.3-inches and 6.7- to 6.9-inches, and how they compare to the other models in the lineup. The ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus are expected to stay at 6.1- and 6.7-inches like their predecessors, but they are rumored to receive a redesigned vertical camera array designed to accommodate spatial video capture. Starting with the iPhone 13, Apple’s two non-Pro iPhone models have had diagonally arranged dual rear cameras. The entire ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup is expected to launch as usual in the …

Apple Orders Capacitive Button Components Allegedly for iPhone 16

Apple Orders Capacitive Button Components Allegedly for iPhone 16

Apple has ordered a large number of capacitative button components from a Taiwan supplier that are allegedly for use in the upcoming iPhone 16 series, claims a new report out of Asia. Image credit: Unbox Therapy According to the Economic Daily News, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering won the order, which is said to include system-in-a-package (SIP) modules that will be used to integrate capcative components with two Taptic Engine motors, one on either side of the iPhone. The claim in the report is that Apple will replace the existing physical buttons on both sides of the iPhone 15 with capacitive versions that will provide ‌iPhone 16‌ users with haptic feedback. The latter type of button detects pressure and emulates the press of a physical button via a haptic (or Taptic) engine which generates vibrations. Apple may well have ordered the buttons in preparation for future production plans, but this does not necessarily mean that they are destined for use in this year’s ‌iPhone 16‌ models. The earliest known prototypes of the ‌‌iPhone 16‌‌ were thought to …
