Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers were on patrol when they heard gunshots just after 11:30 p.m. and arrived on a block outside of the Circle Center Mall. According to police, officers saw six people injured with gunshot wounds. All of the victims were between the ages of 12 and 17, police said. Emergency medical services arrived to transport the children to hospitals, and a seventh person, also under the age of 18, arrived at a hospital on their own. One victim is in critical condition and the other six are stable. Tanya Terry, deputy chief of operations for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, described the shooting as “deeply concerning.” “Once again, we have a situation where young people are resolving conflict with firearms, and it has to stop,” Terry said. Terry told reporters that officers have noticed a pattern of young people leaving the mall after it closes at 7 p.m. and circulate downtown area nearby for hours. She …

Arrest made in fatal stabbing of 2 women found days apart in Indianapolis

An Indiana man has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbings of two women whose bodies were found not far from each other five days apart, Indianapolis police said Friday. Prosecutors charged David Hiner, 30, with two counts of murder in the deaths of Shannon Lassere, 58, and Marianne Weis, 52, officials said at a news conference. “No one deserves what these two women experienced — no one,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department interim Chief Chris Bailey said. “This was brutal and evil.” Christopher Bailey, interim Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department chief, provides an update Friday on two homicide cases in the city. IMPD News via Facebook Lassere was killed Jan. 26 and Weis was killed Jan. 31, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. Lassere’s body was found in a parking lot on Jan. 27 and Weis’ body was found behind a business on Feb. 1, police said. Both had been stabbed. Police in Indianapolis are investigating the killings of two women whose bodies were found around 150 yards away from each other in recent days, and who were killed in a similar manner, officials said Friday. “There are similarities in these two cases,” Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Chris Bailey said — although he said investigators have not proven they are connected. They were found around 150 yards from one another, police Capt. Roger Spurgeon, commander of the department’s homicide branch, said at a news conference. Spurgeon would not say how the women were killed, citing the integrity of the ongoing investigation. “Both victims were killed in a similar manner,” he said. The collapse of FTX has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency industry. The price of bitcoin and other major digital coins have fallen sharply as problems at FTX emerged. Jakub Porzycki | Nurphoto | Getty Images Three people were indicted for an identity-theft conspiracy that allegedly included the $400 million hack in late 2022 of doomed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, court records show. Robert Powell, the alleged ringleader of the SIM swapping group that drained that crypto out of FTX’s virtual wallets, is due to appear in Chicago federal court later Friday for a detention hearing. Also charged in the case are Carter Rohn, an Indianapolis resident, and Colorado resident Emily Hernandez, according to the indictment, which was issued in mid-January by a grand jury in federal court in Washington, D.C. The three defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft and access device fraud, in a scheme that ran from March 2021 to last April, and involved co-conspirators traveling to cell-phone retail stores in more than 15 states. …

Colts owner Jim Irsay blames arrest on police prejudice against white billionaires | Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said his March 2014 arrest for driving under the influence was a result of prejudice against him for being white and wealthy. The longtime NFL owner spoke about the circumstances of his arrest in an interview with the HBO newsmagazine Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel that aired on Tuesday. Irsay later pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while impaired after initially facing four additional counts of possession of a controlled substance. “I am prejudiced against because I’m a rich, white billionaire,” Irsay told HBO’s Andrea Kremer. “If I’m just the average guy down the block, they’re not pulling me in, of course not.” Asked how he thinks it sounds for a white billionaire to claim that he’s a victim of prejudice, Irsay stood by his remarks. “I don’t care what it sounds like,” Irsay said. “It’s the truth. … I could give a damn what people think how anything sounds or sounds like. The truth is the truth, and I know the truth.” Police in the …
