Trouble for Trump? Nikki Haley wins 156,000 votes in closed Pennsylvania primary

Trouble for Trump? Nikki Haley wins 156,000 votes in closed Pennsylvania primary

[ad_1] Nikki Haley dropped out of the GOP presidential race in early March, but her name on the Pennsylvania ballot still drew more than 156,000 votes from registered Republicans on Tuesday, potentially spelling trouble for Donald Trump, the party’s presumptive nominee. Primary returns show 16.6 percent of voters choosing Haley in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary, where only registered party members could participate, with her strongest performance coming in the suburban counties around Philadelphia. President Joe Biden won the state in 2020 by roughly 80,000 votes, in part due to support from Republican-leaning women in the Philadelphia suburbs. In the suburban counties of Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware, Haley, the former UN ambassador under Trump, managed to get 23-25 percent of the GOP primary vote. Haley also over-performed in some, more rural counties where Trump beat Biden, gaining 20-23% of the vote in Lancaster and Cumberland counties. Haley voters told The Philadelphia Inquirer that they were frustrated with their options. “I don’t like [Trump],” said Eric Miller, a 2020 Biden voter who plans on supporting the Democratic nominee …

Primary Protest Vote: 17% Of Republicans Vote Nikki Haley In Biggest Battleground State

Primary Protest Vote: 17% Of Republicans Vote Nikki Haley In Biggest Battleground State

[ad_1] On more than one occasion this primary season, the Biden-Harris campaign has been found itself on the wrong side of significant protest votes — for example, when 13.3% of Michigan Democrats voted “uncommitted” to register their deep dissatisfaction with his handling of the Israel-Gaza war among other things.  On Tuesday, it was Trump’s turn to face some embarrassment, as nearly 17% of Pennsylvania Republicans voted for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley — who pulled out of the race weeks ago. With more than 95% of the vote tallied, Trump had the support of 83.5% of GOP voters, while Haley got the nod from 16.5%. Note that Pennsylvania has “closed” primaries — meaning those Haley votes came only from registered Republicans.  “I despise [Trump],” 63-year-old Paul Woessner, a retired defense intelligence officer, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He’s a criminal. He’s a horrible person, utterly deranged. He’s destroyed one great political party.” 2 takeaways from the Pennsylvania primaries: 1) Haley got nearly 17% of the vote despite dropping out 6 weeks ago. She has 155,000 votes with 98% …

Biden campaign to launch ad targeting former Nikki Haley voters

Biden campaign to launch ad targeting former Nikki Haley voters

[ad_1] President Joe Biden’s campaign, flush with cash after Thursday’s $26 million fundraiser in New York, is putting some of that advantage into a new ad that will directly aim to sway supporters of Nikki Haley to support the Democrat’s re-election. Senior members of the Biden campaign played the planned ad during a meeting of the National Finance Committee in New York on Friday, two sources in attendance told NBC News. The Biden campaign later posted a version of it to X. The ad features former President Donald Trump, in his own words, calling the former South Carolina governor “Birdbrain” and saying her supporters were not welcome in his campaign. In a January post on his Truth Social website, Trump said: “Anybody that makes a ‘Contribution’ to Birdbrain, from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp. We don’t want them, and will not accept them.” Trump walked back that threat after Haley exited the race, saying in a post that he “would further like to invite all of the Haley supporters to join …

Some Republicans who supported Nikki Haley are still refusing to back Donald Trump

Some Republicans who supported Nikki Haley are still refusing to back Donald Trump

[ad_1] COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Now that Nikki Haley has shuttered her presidential campaign, one person who voted for her refuses to back former President Donald Trump and plans to reluctantly vote for President Joe Biden. Another Haley primary supporter acknowledges that he was probably always a “closet Trump fan” and will vote for the former president again in November. The former U.N. ambassador’s base was never big enough to seriously challenge Trump before he clinched a third straight Republican nomination. But in what’s shaping up to be a tight rematch between Trump and Biden, the apparent splintering of Haley’s voters and donors could hurt Trump’s general election chances, particularly in battleground states full of suburban voters who remain dubious of a Trump return to the White House. For now, interviews with Haley’s supporters suggest they could go in a variety of directions — some backing Trump, some going to Biden and others seeking third-party options or avoiding making a decision about the presidential race yet. Haley has not spoken publicly since leaving the race …

[ad_1] U.S. President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign event at Pullman Yards in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. March 9, 2024.  Evelyn Hockstein | Reuters A few days after former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican presidential primary on March 6, veteran media executive and Haley backer Harry Sloan got a call from movie mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg, who asked Sloan to help President Joe Biden take on Donald Trump in the general election. Sloan agreed to help raise money for Biden’s reelection effort and try to reel in Republican-aligned business leaders to get behind the president, he told CNBC in a recent interview. “People I know who are generally business Republicans, they’re going to hear from me” about helping Biden, Sloan said. The former chair of MGM said he has already reached out to some of the people in his Rolodex, and he plans to host a fundraiser for Biden later this year. Sloan is among at least half a dozen former Haley bundlers who have decided to help Biden — and …

Haley finally bows out as Trump and Biden prepare for rematch – podcast | Politics

[ad_1] Pundits saw it as one of the least exciting Super Tuesdays in American history. Nevertheless, it gave us some answers. Nikki Haley, who surprised everyone by beating Trump in the Vermont primary election decided it wasn’t enough to keep her in the race, and on Wednesday, she dropped out. Despite President Biden and Donald Trump winning easily in most states so far, there is a growing trend that neither camp can ignore – they’re both incredibly unpopular. So who should Americans who are dismayed at the choice they’ve been left turn to now? How will both Biden and Trump learn from their first contest four years ago? And what else did we learn from the other primary contests that created headlines on Tuesday? Jonathan Freedland speaks to conservative columnist Charlie Sykes about who Americans should turn to now that it’s likely Biden v Trump in November How to listen to podcasts: everything you need to know [ad_2] Source link

In a deadpan monologue, Chieng attempted to atone for all the not-so-flattering things he has said about the “giant loser” former UN ambassador who was the last Republican challenger to Donald Trump. He began by feigning disappointment over her decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, pleading with the former South Carolina governor to reconsider quitting. “No! Don’t quit now, Nikki! You were only 80,000 delegates behind!” he said, adding: “If you drop out, who will little girls without any principles, convictions, or charisma look up to?” Chieng then addressed Ms Haley directly, offering some heartfelt words — and hard truths. Nikki Haley never had a chance — as Republicans’ bonkers candidate for North Carolina governor shows

[ad_1] Wednesday morning, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley did everyone a solid by being brief in her remarks as she dropped out of the Republican presidential primary race. She declined to endorse Donald Trump, who beat her handily once again on Super Tuesday, but did suggest that Trump could “earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him.” The conciliatory tone was no surprise. A common gripe against Haley is that she started criticizing Trump directly far too late in the race. For most of 2023, Haley avoided calling Trump out for his deranged behavior, only making half-hearted assertions that she was a steadier hand. After he gave a speech where he, at length, confused Haley for former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., she finally uncorked a little. She started offering more full-throated denunciations of the “chaos” Trump brings. Implicit was an electability argument: Her more reasonable-appearing demeanor meant she had a much better chance at defeating President Joe Biden in November. Many a pundit argued …

With Nikki Haley Out, Biden Makes Appeal To Her Voters

[ad_1] US President Joe Biden held out an olive branch to Republican voters who cast their ballot for Nikki Haley on Wednesday, right after the former South Carolina governor announced her withdrawal from the Republican presidential primary. Haley, who was the first Republican to challenge Trump in the 2024 presidential race, suspended her campaign after a massive loss on Super Tuesday. The former US ambassador to the United Nations was the last Republican candidate to drop out in what started as a crowded field of Trump challengers, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. “It takes a lot of courage to run for President — that’s especially true in today’s Republican Party, where so few dare to speak the truth about Donald Trump,” Biden said in a statement Wednesday morning. “Nikki Haley was willing to speak the truth about Trump: about the chaos that always follows him, about his inability to see right from wrong, about his cowering before [Russian President] Vladimir Putin.” In her speech in her home state …
