Rust weapons supervisor Hannah Gutierrez jailed over fatal shooting on Alec Baldwin film set | Ents & Arts News

The weapons supervisor for the film Rust has been jailed for 18 months following the fatal shooting of the film’s cinematographer on set. Hannah Gutierrez, 26, was sentenced today after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by jurors in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following a trial. She was in charge of weapons during the production of the western film in October 2021, when a Colt 45 revolver fired by actor and co-producer Alec Baldwin went off during a rehearsal. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died following the incident, while director Joel Souza was injured. Jurors sitting on Gutierrez’s trial reached their verdict after a two-week trial during which they heard evidence from dozens of witnesses, including eyewitnesses, FBI evidence analysts and an ammunition supplier to Rust, as well as Mr Souza, during a 10-day trial. A statement from Ms Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, was read aloud to the court during Gutierrez’s sentencing. In it, she said her life had been split in two and that time didn’t heal, rather it only prolonged her pain and suffering. “It’s …

‘Rust’ shooting: Hannah Gutierrez guilty of involuntary manslaughter

A New Mexico jury has found “Rust” movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the 2021 accidental shooting death of the cinematographer on the troubled Alec Baldwin western. Wednesday’s verdict in Santa Fe came after about two hours of deliberation by the 12-person jury. Earlier in the day, jurors were asked to review evidence presented during Gutierrez’s 10-day trial to determine whether she had acted recklessly, or with “willful disregard” for the safety of others, while overseeing guns and ammunition on the set of the movie nearly two and a half years ago. The 26-year-old Arizona woman faces up to 18 months in prison for her role in the death of photography director Halyna Hutchins. The jury was dismissed after the jury forewoman read the verdict and other jurors confirmed their votes. The special prosecutor asked that Gutierrez be taken into custody immediately. New Mexico First Judicial District Court Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer agreed, and a court deputy escorted Gutierrez out a side door of the courtroom. Family members became emotional. Gutierrez remained …

FBI analyst describes damage to Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ gun in Hannah Gutierrez trial

New Mexico prosecutors attempting to prove that Alec Baldwin was criminally negligent in the fatal shooting of the “Rust” movie cinematographer must grapple with a complicating piece of evidence: a damaged gun. Baldwin has long maintained that he did not pull the trigger of his prop gun — a Colt .45 revolver — on Oct. 21, 2021, while rehearsing a scene on the movie set outside Santa Fe, N.M. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was standing a few feet away when Baldwin’s gun discharged, firing a lead bullet that fatally struck her in the chest. The shot also injured film’s director, Joel Souza, who recovered from his wound. A month after the accident, Baldwin told ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos: “I didn’t pull the trigger. … I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them.” Persistent questions about the gun’s condition at the time of the shooting have proved to be thorny for prosecutors. Baldwin’s defense team has suggested the actor’s prop gun was faulty and may have malfunctioned, leading to its …

Porfirio Gutiérrez Brings His Traditional Weaving Techniques to Mexico

In 1940, famed Mexico City architects Luis Barragán and Max Cetto collaborated on a building called Edificio para Artistas. Still considered a beacon of Mexico City modernism, the building was imagined as four live workspaces with floor-to-ceiling windows and floating spiral staircases designed for artists by artists as a place to create and exchange ideas. Today, the building remains a creative hub with tenants like architects, interior designers, and photographers. Last Wednesday, during the Zona Maco art fair, visitors were invited to the inaugural exhibition hosted by the building’s newest tenant, Veronica Fernandez, who opened the agency PARA A as an extension of her art advisory services to help Latin American artists garner US representation. The show, titled “Desde Otra Mirada,” runs through March 17 and showcases the work of Zapotec textile artist Porfirio Gutiérrez, who migrated to California from Teotitlán del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico, where his family have been weaving for generations.
