Anna Gunn says her “Breaking Bad” character is finally out of the “ring of fire” of misogyny

Anna Gunn says her “Breaking Bad” character is finally out of the “ring of fire” of misogyny

Audiences are apparently beginning to view Skyler White, the character played by Anna Gunn on the hit AMC series “Breaking Bad,” in a new light, thanks to the “seismic” cultural changes that have happened in the more than a decade since the show’s finale. Gunn, who nabbed two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Skyler, the wife of Brian Cranston’s Walter White, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the misogyny her character faced from much of the show’s fanbase. The actor cited a 2013 op-ed that she authored for The New York Times, in which she delved into the “vitriolic response” Skyler garnered as the effective antagonist to Walter. While Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter that her decision to look into the discourse surrounding Skyler “was probably a mistake,” she acknowledged that it “led to a great deal of soul searching and me thinking, ‘Well, is it me?’” “I really just had to go through that ring of fire, for lack of a better phrase, to understand that a lot of it was, frankly, misogynistic,” Gunn added. “A lot of …

Legacy’ Gets Title Change From James Gunn

Legacy’ Gets Title Change From James Gunn

Drop the Legacy. James Gunn revealed that his new Superman movie will simply be called Superman, writing in a post celebrating the first day of filming, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.  Making our way to you July 2025.” Along with the post, he shared an image of the Superman logo from the film, which was previously called Superman: Legacy. The snow-dusting on the logo suggests a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s arctic fortress. Superman, of course, was the title of the seminal 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve and directed by Richard Donner. (Though it was also known as Superman: The Movie.) David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor. The film was previously titled Superman: Legacy. Warner Bros. has a July 11, 2025 date for the film, which marks the …

Gunn, 57, reposted an IGN article on his X/Twitter account, which reported that the character Youssef had been approached to play was entirely cut from the script prior to his comments about Palestine. Gunn wrote about the article: “This is accurate.” Earlier this week, Youssef had told Salon that he believed he had been let go from the project due to a viral interview with Piers Morgan regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. “In the United States of America, you can talk about Joe Biden, you can talk about Donald Trump, but you cannot criticize a foreign government which is kind of, like, very sad, you know?” Youssef said in the Salon interview. “And then because of that, I was …
