Gogoro delays India plans due to policy uncertainty, launches bike-taxi pilot with Rapido

Taiwanese electric two-wheeler maker Gogoro has deferred its highly ambitious plans for India, as New Delhi has not yet launched an anticipated scheme for battery swapping, a company executive said. In the meantime, the company has started a bike-taxi pilot with aggregator Rapido to test its vehicles before their commercial release. Gogoro is “forced to wait for the finalization of incentive schemes” from the Indian government before ramping its vehicle sales and battery pack production in the country, co-founder and CEO Horace Luke said during the company’s Q2 earnings call on Thursday. “We had forecasted revenue from India for 2024, but due to the delay in implementation in subsidies to include battery swapping vehicles, most of it is now projected for 2025,” the executive told investors. Luke also underlined the company was working with the Indian heavy industries ministry to ensure that the expected iteration of the government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (or FAME 3) will offer the same benefits to battery-swapping vehicles and infrastructure which it gave to charging …

Gogoro Pulse first ride: Testing the most high-tech performance electric scooter

When Gogoro rolled out its new high-performance electric scooter, the Pulse, the world got its first glimpse of an entirely new side of the company. Best known for its battery-swapping system and cute, brightly-colored scooters, the Pulse launched an edgy new look for Gogoro. But even more importantly, it also showed off an entire suite of new high-tech innovations. And so when I received an invite to be the first Westerner to test ride the Pulse and share the experience with the world, I jumped on it. Every company seems to proclaim that their new e-scooter is like none other before, but only the Gogoro Pulse is one of the few that can truly mean it. This electric scooter marks a paradigm shift in what is possible for this form factor and with Gogoro’s swappable battery standard. Gogoro Pulse First Ride Video To get a sense of what it’s like to throw a leg over this scooter, check out my video below. But don’t forget to keep reading afterward, for all of the fun details! …

Gogoro, the global leader in battery-swapping for light electric vehicles like scooters and motorcycles, just can’t seem to slow down. After a week full of major news, the company is back with perhaps its biggest announcement lately: a plan for a major partnership that will see the company greatly expand the use of its swappable battery standard. Oh, and not just for light electric vehicles anymore. Today, Gogoro announced signing an MOU to form a new partnership with Japanese giants Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Co., Ltd. (SMFL) to accelerate Gogoro’s global business expansion. The agreement is set to provide Sumitomo and SMFL access to Gogoro’s Smart Batteries and battery-swapping system to allow the companies to expand their mobility business and second-life battery use cases. It’s hard to overstate Sumitomo’s magnitude, owning over 900 subsidiary companies with 80,000 employees. With a reach across broad industries including automotive, transportation & construction systems, and diverse urban development, Sumitomo is poised to help drastically expand the use of Gogoro’s swappable battery standard. Gogoro expands its battery-swapping electric scooters into Nepal

Gogoro has been on a roll lately, showing off a steady stream of new scooter models and simultaneously expanding its markets into new countries. Now, the battery-swapping electric scooter leader is adding another pin to the map: Nepal. Gogoro’s e-scooters are most famous for their battery-swapping architecture, with the company’s iconic green and black battery modules serving as the basis for hundreds of thousands of battery swaps each day. Based in Taiwan, Gogoro has regularly expanded into new countries by partnering with local energy companies. To reach the Nepalese market, Gogoro teamed up with Nebula Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MG Group. As a new energy venture, Nebula is committed to leading the way towards an environmentally sustainable and energy-independent Nepal. Nebula Energy joined Gogoro at a joint press event in Kathmandu today, where Nepal’s first battery-swapping station is located. Nebula now becomes an authorized and exclusive partner of Gogoro in the country. “Gogoro is at the forefront of sustainable urban transportation, and together, we plan to contribute to Nepal’s zero-emission targets through this new …

New affordable Gogoro JEGO electric scooters begins deliveries

New affordable Gogoro JEGO electric scooters begins deliveries

After recently launching its newest electric scooter, the Gogoro JEGO Smartscooter, deliveries of the hot-selling electric scooters are ready to begin. This marks a new page for Gogoro, the world’s largest battery-swapping network operator, and makes swappable battery electric scooters more affordable than ever. The Gogoro JEGO launched in Taiwan last month, quickly racking up over 6,500 fully-paid pre-orders in that short time. Gogoro already dominates the local market with around a 90% share of new electric scooter registrations in Taiwain. According to Gogoro, JEGO sales are showing the strongest demand for a Gogoro vehicle since the beginning of the pandemic.  The company’s domestic market of Taiwan is by far its largest, though Gogoro scooters and battery swapping stations have now expanded to much of Asia as Gogoro expands its footprint. With an introductory price that drops as low as just US $760 after government subsidies, the JEGO is positioned as an affordable new model to open up the local market further and entice more price-sensitive combustion engine scooter riders. The scooter was built around Gogoro’s well-known …

After huge Taiwan quake, Gogoro electric scooters rush in to help

After huge Taiwan quake, Gogoro electric scooters rush in to help

The largest earthquake to hit Taiwan this century rattled the entire island overnight, collapsing buildings, damaging roads, and shutting down train and subway services. Gogoro’s electric scooters quickly picked up the slack, providing one of the only accessible transportation options left and providing free rides. Earthquakes are a regular occurrence in Taiwan but are usually much lower-intensity tremblors. This morning’s 7.4 magnitude quake is the largest to impact the island in 25 years. The quake struck just off the east coast of Taiwan at 07:58 local time, as rush hour picked up and millions of commuters were traveling to work. According to the Associated Press, “Traffic along the east coast was at a virtual standstill after the earthquake, with landslides and falling debris hitting tunnels and highways. Train service was suspended across the island of 23 million people, with some tracks twisted by the stress of the quake, as was subway service in Taipei, where sections of a newly constructed elevated line split apart but did not collapse.” Scooters are the most efficient form of …

Gogoro Pulse unveiled as new high performance electric scooter

Gogoro Pulse unveiled as new high performance electric scooter

After several recent international expansion announcements, Gogoro unveiled its latest electric scooter today. The new model, known as the Gogoro Pulse, relies on the company’s existing swappable battery standard yet ushers in a technological revolution as Gogoro’s highest-performance electric scooter yet. The design is also starkly modern, swapping the bubbly curves of past Gogoro models for sharp angles and even more embedded tech. That’s quite a feat, considering Gogoro’s existing models have long been regarded as some of the most tech-forward electric scooters on the market. “Gogoro has been widely recognized for its contribution to the transformation of the urban two-wheel industry with its integration of cutting-edge innovation, performance, and design that created a smart new electric user experience,” said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro. “The Pulse introduces a new and exhilarating Gogoro riding experience that utilizes our latest innovations in electric performance and aerodynamic efficiency with advanced lighting and an immersive interactive user experience.” The Gogoro Pulse uses a brand-new motor developed by the company to power the scooter’s Hyper Drive powertrain. The new …

Why Gogoro picked India as its new go-to market

Why Gogoro picked India as its new go-to market

Gogoro co-founder and CEO Horace Luke wants to “go big” in India even as the Taiwanese company faces challenges in its home country. The potential of India, it seems, is simply to ripe to ignore and not just because it’s the world’s biggest two-wheeler market, where 15–20 million new two-wheelers hit roads every year. Luke also sees the world’s most populous country as a launch pad that will accelerate its global expansion in other markets. It’s not a bad tactic, considering India is already on a spree to become a competitive manufacturing hub for all major international brands and products starting from smartphones to satellites. Earlier this month, Gogoro made its first commercial entry into India with the introduction of its battery-swapping network and smartscooters after running pilots and investing millions of dollars in the country. Talking on the sidelines with Luke at the company’s event, it’s clear his ambitions stretch beyond this initial debut. Founded in 2011 by former HTC executives Luke and Matt Taylor, Gogoro considers itself the Android of all EVs. It …
