Cities Skylines II DLC now wrecks the main game, fix will take weeks

The first premium DLC expansion for Cities Skylines II continues to be an embarrassment for Colossal Order’s otherwise leading city building series. Already the developer and publisher Paradox Interactive decided to pull the DLC from sale and issue refunds to any who bought it. Now, it seems that a title update coping with the removal of the DLC, pending its free addition to the main game, has caused near-fatal visual glitches that wreck players’ cities. It could take up to three weeks to resolve this new issue, Colossal Order told fans. Official forums and the subreddit for Cities Skylines II are alive with complaints that existing buildings have either been replaced with gray “tombstone” place-holders, or simply wiped out altogether. “Unfortunately, due to variations in the packages purchased, some entitlements are currently inactive and causing an issue where the player cannot access the assets,” Colossal Order wrote in an update to an FAQ originally published on Thursday. “We’re looking for a temporary fix for this, but the issue may continue until the patch is released.” …

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection faces criticism for bugs, glitches, and server issues

Fans are slamming Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection on the very first day of its launch because of bugs, glitches, and server issues on multiplayer. Following its launch on March 14, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection faces negative responses from players, thanks to numerous bugs and evidence of a severe lack of preparation for its online multiplayer services. Available to play on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game includes both the original Star Wars: Battlefront and its sequel, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, from 2004 and 2005, respectively, as well as all bonus content released for each. The combined efforts of two popular classics drew much attention– and quickly turned to criticism. Players are reporting numerous bugs across all platforms, prompting many to seek refunds, reports Eurogamer on March 14. Limited servers have also posed issues to many players, once again across multiple platforms. Server issues impacted Star Wars Battlefront gameplay from the off Early reports from users indicated that there were only three servers for Battlefront 2 on PC, each able to support …

College admissions upended by FAFSA financial aid form glitches

College admissions upended by FAFSA financial aid form glitches

Esmeralda Bernal is the valedictorian of Downtown Magnets High School this year, the daughter of Mexican immigrants who never went to college. She’s taken 18 college-level classes and aced them with a cumulative 4.5 GPA while taking on leadership roles in her school’s robotics and math clubs. She dreams of becoming a civil engineer. Yet the brainy senior couldn’t get past glitches to submit her federal financial aid form for more than a month. A new form designed to be simpler was just the opposite for her: impenetrable. She had been trying to reach the U.S. Department of Education’s help line since early January, to no avail. Finally, after calling 13 times one day last week, she got someone on the line who could help. She submitted her form and is anxiously waiting for the federal information to be sent to colleges, which use the all-important FAFSA form, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, to craft aid packages that let students know whether they can afford their dream schools. For Esmeralda, it’s MIT, Smith …

Sumitomo cuts nickel output forecast in Madagascar due to system glitches

Sumitomo cuts nickel output forecast in Madagascar due to system glitches

TOKYO : Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp on Monday slashed its output estimate of nickel at its Ambatovy project in Madagascar due to system glitches. Sumitomo, which has been struggling to stabilize production levels and improve profitability at the Ambatovy project, now forecasts an annual nickel output of about 30,000 metric tons for the year to March 31, down from its November estimate of about 40,000 tons. “In addition to some equipment malfunctions during the October-December quarter, another glitch was found at the utility plant at the end of last year,” Chief Financial Officer Reiji Morooka told a news conference. Also, due to lower-than-expected prices of nickel, Sumitomo revised down an annual financial impact estimate from the Ambatovy to a 17.4 billion yen ($117 million) loss from its November forecast of break-even, Morooka said. The company is not clear how soon the issue at the project will be resolved, another official said. Nickel has long been feted as a key battery material for electric vehicles because it improves energy density so cars can run further …

Volvo delays EX30 SUV due to software glitches

Volvo EX30 Outland edition in Chrystal White (Source: Everland Customs) EV drivers looking to get behind the wheel of their new Volvo all-electric SUV EX30 may have to wait a bit longer as Volvo works to resolve some software glitches before delivery – the second time a Volvo EV launch has been delayed due to software. Volvo said yesterday that it has delayed deliveries in Europe of its EX30 all-electric SUV due to software issues, according to Automotive News Europe. The EV hasn’t yet been released in the US but that should happen by the summer, Volvo has stated.  Automotive News Europe got its hands on correspondence from Volvo to dealers that said the software version 1.2 wasn’t ready for release. “We confirm that Volvo is working tirelessly to resolve the problem,” the correspondence said. “Important progress has been made but the software version 1.2 does not yet meet all the requirements necessary to be released.” A source told Automotive News Europe that the update couldn’t be performed over the air and had to be …

Launcher’s Orbiter glitches in orbit, forcing emergency deployment of space startups’ payloads

Launcher’s Orbiter glitches in orbit, forcing emergency deployment of space startups’ payloads

Launcher’s Orbiter spacecraft experienced an anomaly after reaching orbit that will likely result in the premature end of its customer’s missions, including Starfish Space’s Otter Pup demonstration mission. Launcher and its customer Starfish Space released a joint statement Wednesday detailing what happened in the hours after the Orbiter spacecraft lifted off on SpaceX’s Transporter-8 mission earlier this month. While the spacecraft successfully separated from the launch vehicle, it experienced a software-related issue that induced a high rate of rotation. This issue, in addition to critically low fuel and battery levels, forced Launcher to make the “emergency decision” to deploy customer payloads earlier than anticipated. As a result of the early deployment, Starfish’s Otter Pup demo satellite also started experiencing high rotation. While Starfish confirmed that its satellite is alive, the mission – in which Otter Pup was going to attempt to rendezvous and dock with Orbiter – will not be able to continue until the satellite is stabilized in orbit. “Given the events experienced post-launch and the current state of the satellite, it is unlikely …

Twitter Circle glitches have users worried about privacy

Twitter Circle glitches have users worried about privacy

As more Twitter features break and glitch, users are becoming increasingly concerned about the platform’s stability. We’re about three months into Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter, and a number of problems plague the platform, likely because so many staff have left or been laid off. Some people, including Musk and Libs of TikTok, have temporarily put their accounts on private to see if that boosts engagement. Android users are reporting that they can no longer DM people. Others can briefly see posts from people who have blocked them, posing a privacy concern. In a truly heinous crime of engineering, some users report that they don’t see birthday balloons anymore. The list goes on. This helped identify some issues with the system. Should be addressed by next week. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 2, 2023 For anyone who loves to overshare on the internet, one possibly-broken feature is particularly concerning: Twitter Circle. Over the summer, Twitter rolled out its Circle feature, which functions like Instagram’s Close Friends stories. Instead of making an alt account to privately …
