Jack Trainner murder: Hunt for killer continues as detectives believe Port Glasgow attack was ‘targeted’ | UK News

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Inverclyde believe it was a targeted attack as the hunt for the killer continues. Jack Trainner was found seriously injured on Brookfield Road, Port Glasgow, at around 9.05pm on Saturday 27 April. Emergency crews attended, but the 27-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. On Monday, Police Scotland issued a fresh appeal and is urging all those with information to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie said: “Our thoughts remain with Jack’s family. “This is a very difficult time for them and I want to reassure them and the wider community that our murder inquiry is progressing and we are following a number of lines of investigation. “Enquiries so far indicate that this was a targeted attack.” Officers are continuing to carry out door-to-door enquiries and have been viewing a “large amount” of CCTV from in and around the area. A Scottish singer plucked from obscurity at the last minute to replace Olly Murs as the opening act for Take That in Glasgow has told Sky News he thought the life-changing opportunity was a “joke”. Daniel Rooney, 26, was playing at the Radisson Red hotel opposite the OVO Hydro when news broke that Murs was forced to cancel his support act on Friday due to transport issues. TV presenter Ross King, who was enjoying a family dinner at the hotel, was impressed with Mr Rooney’s vocals and recommended the singer to his friend and Take That frontman Gary Barlow. With 30 minutes to go before the show was due to start, Mr Rooney was quickly whisked to the arena and opened the festivities with a range of upbeat cover songs. A Scottish singer has said he is “still on a high” after being plucked from obscurity to replace Olly Murs as the opening act for Take That at the last minute. Murs was due to open for Take That at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Friday but had to pull out after getting stuck in London when his flight was cancelled. The Scottish presenter Ross King was watching Daniel Rooney play at the Radisson hotel opposite the arena when news broke that Take That were without a support act. Impressed with his vocals, King recommended Rooney to his friend and Take That frontman Gary Barlow to fill the slot, the Daily Record reported, with only 30 minutes to get to the venue. Olly Murs has apologised for cancelling a performance in Glasgow at the last minute. The singer has been supporting Take That on tour, but was forced to cancel his appearance with the band at the OVO Hydro due to transport issues. For many people working in a major city can include quite hefty commuting costs. But under a brand new scheme planned for Glasgow, Scotland, everybody living in the city could be zipping around on public transport totally free of charge. Initially, a pilot scheme in Glasgow could see 1,000 people given free access to public transport for nine weeks. Glasgow City Council has procured support to develop the pilot and the results would determine if there should be a wider rollout to all residents. But there’s a big catch as money for both the delivery of the £250,000 pilot and wider scheme – which would cost £95.7 million for just nine weeks for all residents – is yet to be secured. The ages of those who would receive free transport under the pilot are those between 22 and 59. Each individual involved in the pilot would get a preloaded travel card for nine weeks. This would give them access to buses, the Subway and local trains across Zones 1 and 2 in Glasgow. A report on …
