Reneé Rapp Calls for “Immediate” and “Permanent Cease-Fire” in Gaza at GLAAD Media Awards

Reneé Rapp made her thoughts on the conflict in Gaza clear Thursday night at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. “We’re in a room of very influential people, very privileged people, which is exciting and also a huge privilege to be a part of that,” Rapp said during a speech to accept her award from the LGBTQ+ advocacy organization for outstanding music artist. “Having said that, I’d like to take the opportunity to show support and call for an immediate cease-fire and permanent cease-fire in Gaza.” Referencing notes on her phone, Rapp—who is a musician in addition to an actor, and took a star turn in the movie musical adaptation of Mean Girls—urged the audience “to continue to advocate for yourselves, continue to advocate for your friends, for your queer friends and for those who can’t advocate for themselves.” Her firm message regarding the Israel-Hamas war was met with audience applause. Winners Include ‘Fellow Travelers’ and Reneé Rapp

Awards season is not over just yet. The GLAAD Media Awards went down inside the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Thursday, a ceremony that saw trophies handed out to winners across film, TV, music and media. Wayne Brady hosted the star-studded event at which Oprah Winfrey took home a Vanguard Award presented by Chilli Pepper and Paolo Presta, and Niecy Nash-Betts was honored with a Stephen F. Kolzak Award for LGBTQ visibility from pal Sharon Stone. In categories announced from the stage, Showtime’s steamy political drama Fellow Travelers starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey from creator Ron Nyswaner took the top prize as outstanding limited or anthology series. The Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, which introduced a gay soccer star this past season, bested the competition in the outstanding comedy series category. The Trace Lysette-starrer Monica from IFC Films was honored as outstanding film in limited release, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets won for outstanding drama series.
