Zebras Get Loose Near Highway Exit, Gallop Into Washington Community Before Most Are Corralled

NORTH BEND, Wash. (AP) — It was an unusual wildlife sighting Sunday when four zebras escaped from their trailer and galloped into a Washington neighborhood. Three of the four black-and-white striped animals were quickly captured, but the fate of the fourth wasn’t immediately known Monday, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said. The zebras were being transported from Washington to Montana when the driver took the Interstate 90 exit for North Bend, located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of Seattle, to secure the trailer. That’s when the the zebras bolted. Witness Dan Barnett of North Bent told KING-TV of Seattle that he was in “disbelief,” when he saw the zebras eating grass off the side of the offramp. He and other drivers helped protect the zebras from the busy nearby interstate, as drivers on the offramp pulled over to “make a makeshift fence” to block the animals from the highway, Barnett said. Jordan Pettitt/PA Images via Getty Images Five military horses — including one seemingly covered in blood — got loose in central London early Wednesday, galloping through rush hour crowds, smashing into vehicles and injuring several people before being recaptured. “A number of military working horses became loose during routine exercise this morning,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence told NPR. “All of the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp.” According to the ministry, six soldiers and seven horses from the Household Cavalry — specifically the Life Guards, the most senior regiment of the British Army — were conducting an “extended exercising of horses” around London, known as the Watering Order. About a mile into their journey, as they passed by a construction site in the Belgravia area, the sound of concrete …

LONDON — A number of horses from the king’s mounted bodyguard broke loose escaped their keepers and galloped through central London on Wednesday morning during rush hour, one of them apparently covered in blood. At least four people were injured. The horses were from the Household Cavalry, which participates in the ceremonial changing of the guard and celebratory royal events. They threw their riders during a morning exercise near Buckingham Palace. “A number of military working horses became loose during routine exercise this morning. JORDAN PETTITT / AP Two army horses that were seen galloping through central London at rush hour on Wednesday, April 24, have been contained, police and media reports said. Photos and video posted on social media and by British news outlets showed the horses running along busy roads, dodging buses, taxis and other traffic. London’s Metropolitan Police initially reported it was “working with colleagues in the army to locate them.” A number of prestigious army regiments have stables in the British capital and horses are a regular sight around government buildings on Whitehall, Buckingham Palace, The Mall and in nearby Hyde Park. The City of London Police, which polices the Square Mile financial district, said they were called at about 8:40 am local time about the loose horses. “Our officers have contained two horses on the Highway near Limehouse,” a statement …

“Mary & George” may be shallow, but it’s also a lusty, wickedly fun gallop through history

“Mary & George” may be shallow, but it’s also a lusty, wickedly fun gallop through history

Mary Villiers wasn’t born to power. She had to scheme her way there from the dirt, learning what she was up against on the way up. An early episode of “Mary & George” shows how vicious those lessons could be as Julianne Moore’s Mary first stares into the face of Lady Elizabeth Hatton (a scene-stealing Nicola Walker). Mary hasn’t a clue who she’s tangling with, assuming manners and etiquette will get her by. Then the good “lady” opens her mouth to offer her thoughts on the late “virgin” queen with whom she shares a name. “Why must she be touted as some magic hymen savior of all mankind?” Elizabeth says, adding she still would’ve achieved everything all the same “if she’d eased onto the old coil of flesh.” “’Coil of flesh’?” Mary repeats with a lilt of admiring intimidation that fails to win over her guest. “Whatever nomenclature you prefer,” Elizabeth offers, accentuating her speech with oozing hauteur. With that, the good lady drops her act to make it clear in so many words, some with four …
