Even Katy Perry’s Mom Was Fooled by that AI Pic of Her at the Met Gala

Even Katy Perry’s Mom Was Fooled by that AI Pic of Her at the Met Gala

“AI is boomer abuse.” Fool Me Twice Singer Katy Perry was apparently in the studio the night of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual gala — but if you were fooled by AI pics of her attending the event, you were in good company. The “I Kissed A Girl” singer, born Kathryn Elizabeth Hudson, shared in an Instagram post two AI-generated photos of her wearing floral dresses that fit the Met Gala’s “Garden of Time” theme. In the same post, she also included a screenshot of a text exchange with her mother, who was apparently duped by one of the fake pictures into thinking her famous progeny was in attendance. “Didn’t know you went to the Met,” the singer’s mother, Mary Hudson, said in the text screenshot. “What a gorgeous gown. You look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol.” In response, the 39-year-old pop star quipped back: “the AI got you too, BEWARE!” Fake 4 Fake Perry’s response to being artificially placed at an event she didn’t attend was lighthearted, but …

BBC presenter’s likeness used in advert after company fooled by AI-generated voice

For free real time breaking news alerts sent straight to your inbox sign up to our breaking news emails Sign up to our free breaking news emails Liz Bonnin’s face has been used to advertise insect repellant after AI-generated voice messages scammed a firm into thinking she had granted them permission. The BBC presenter’s management spotted Bonnin on online adverts for the product earlier this week, which they knew she had not signed up for. AI experts uncovered the voice notes of Bonnin supposedly saying she was happy to appear in the campaign as a scam, which saw the duped company send £20,000 to fraudsters. Speaking to the The Fuardian, which broke the story, Bonnin said the fake messages were a “violation” and “not a pleasant thing” to discover. “Thank goodness it was just an insect repellant spray and that I wasn’t supposedly advertising something really horrid!” she said. Bonnin, who has an Irish accent, added: “At the very beginning it does sound like me but then I sound a bit Australian and then it’s …

Internet Fooled by AI-Generated Kendrick Lamar Diss Track

Internet Fooled by AI-Generated Kendrick Lamar Diss Track

“A lot of people are scared of AI, rightfully so.” Good Kid, Mad AI A diss track featuring the apparent vocals of rapper Kendrick Lamar made its rounds on social media earlier this week, escalating the beef between him and Aubrey “Drake” Graham. Now a 23-year-old musician who goes by the moniker Sly the Rapper has come forward, alleging he’s behind the viral track, which was titled simply “Freestyle.” And guess what? He says it was AI-generated. That’s impressive, because it fooled plenty of people into believing it was the real thing. “I thought people were going to know that it was AI,” Sly told Complex. “Although it did sound real, it sounded like an old version of Kendrick Lamar.” “The style sounded kind of dated, so I just thought that would be a giveaway, but apparently it wasn’t,” he added. To Pimp a ButterflAI The use of AI in the music industry has sparked a heated debate over copyright, music piracy, and musicians’ rights. The news comes after a song that used AI-generated vocals to imitate …

Don’t Be Fooled by AI

Don’t Be Fooled by AI

Accumulating over recent decades, a large body of research shows how susceptible we are to attributing mental life to our interactive machines. Joseph Weizenbaum, AI pioneer and designer of the ELIZA program, famously noticed this “delusion” way back in the mid-1960s.1 He designed a script for ELIZA called DOCTOR to mimic the way an initial client interview might proceed with a Rogerian psychotherapist. Weizenbaum did not intend his program to be used for therapy. He was interested in the capacity for computer-simulated conversation. He chose the Rogerian model—a technique that consists of drawing out clients by reflecting their responses back to them—because it was easy to imitate and kept people talking. For example, one exchange with a young woman began (computer responses in capitals): Men are all alike. IN WHAT WAY They’re always bugging us about something or other. CAN YOU THINK OF A SPECIFIC EXAMPLE Well, my boyfriend made me come here. YOUR BOYFRIEND MADE YOU COME HERE He says I’m depressed much of the time… Weizenbaum did not expect people to want to …

Kate Moss’ uncanny lookalike just fooled everyone at Paris Fashion Week – see photos

Kate Moss’ uncanny lookalike just fooled everyone at Paris Fashion Week – see photos

There are many of us in the world who, if we could, would look like Kate Moss in a heartbeat. Well, Denise Ohnona, is her doppelganger. The resemblance is so uncanny, that she has been dubbed the world’s number one Kate Moss lookalike. And she just fooled everybody into thinking the real KM made a surprise runway appearance at the Marine Serre show during Paris Fashion Week. With Winnie Harlow also walking, and a front row that seated illustrious guests like Kelly Rutherford, it’s easy to see why Kate Moss’ presence would have been believable. Plus, Denise strutted in slim-leg leather trousers, a white oversized shirt and a leather jacket – an outerwear piece that has been a staple in the real Kate’s wardrobe since the 90s. © GettyDenise fooled everybody into thinking Kate Moss walked during PFW AW24 “A round of gasps could be heard even over the electronic overtures of Marine Serre’s futuristic supermarket as ‘Kate Moss’ swayed down the catwalk,” says Hello! Fashion’s editor Natalie Salmon, who was in the audience.  The …

James Comer and Tucker Carlson aren’t fooled by Russian lies — they’re complicit

James Comer and Tucker Carlson aren’t fooled by Russian lies — they’re complicit

Last week, the “whistleblower” that House Republicans were counting on to justify a long-planned impeachment of Joe Biden was arrested for lying to the FBI. In a twist that should surprise exactly no one, it appears almost certain that Alexander Smirnov’s claim to have evidence implicating the president and his son, Hunter, in criminal activity was fabricated. Worse yet, it also seems plausible that the “source” of the lies was Russian intelligence services. House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., had built the effort to impeach Biden around Smirnov’s invented testimony, and has now tacitly admitted that this arrest may derail the Biden impeachment, which has been in the works since long before Republicans had even decided what “crime” they would pretend to believe Biden committed.  In the wake of Smirnov’s arrest, a narrative has surfaced among the punditry holding that Comer and other Republicans who championed Smirnov’s fictions must be a bunch of morons. Joe Scarborough of MNBC, the bellwether of centrist Beltway thinking, unleashed on Wednesday morning about “Republicans being played once again by Vladimir Putin,” …

Don’t be fooled by the AI apocalypse

A guide to understanding which fears are real and which aren’t Illustration by The Atlantic November 16, 2023, 2:14 PM ET This is Atlantic Intelligence, an eight-week series in which The Atlantic’s leading thinkers on AI will help you understand the complexity and opportunities of this groundbreaking technology. Sign up here. Executive action, summits, big-time legislation—governments around the world are beginning to take seriously the threats AI could pose to society. As they do, two visions of the technology are jostling for the attention of world leaders, business magnates, media, and the public. One sounds like science fiction, in which rogue robots extinguish humanity or terrorists use AI to accomplish the same. You aren’t alone if you fear the coming of Skynet: The executives at the helm of the very companies developing this supposedly terrifying technology—at OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and elsewhere—are the ones sounding the alarm that their products could end the world, and efforts to regulate AI in the U.S. and the U.K. are already parroting those prophecies. But many advocates and academics say …

Don’t be fooled – Trump’s presidential run is gaining more and more momentum | Lloyd Green

The Republican field swells but the 45th president’s commanding lead holds. Like Jeb Bush – another Florida governor and defeated Trump rival – Ron DeSantis has demonstrated himself inadequate to the task. By the numbers, DeSantis trails Trump nationally and in the Sunshine State. DeSantis was born there. Trump only recently moved there. To be the man you gotta beat the man, and right now DeSantis is going nowhere fast. Ill-at-ease and plagued by a pronounced charisma deficit, DeSantis can’t even decide how to pronounce his own surname. He is 44 years old. That’s plenty of time to nail down this personal detail. Following his botched campaign rollout on Twitter, a perpetual scowl creases DeSantis’s face. He does not relish the task at hand. Presidential races are marathons, and he does not appear built for endurance. Trump administration alums fare no better. Both Mike Pence, the hapless former vice-president, and Nikki Haley, the forgettable UN ambassador, have generated little enthusiasm. They are stalled in the doldrums of single-digits despite years in the public eye. Both …
