Parminder Nagra hasn’t ruled out reprising her role in a Bend It Like Beckham sequel. The actress, who starred as football-playing 18-year-old Jess alongside Keira Knightley’s Juliette in the feel-good 2002 film, said she would have to see the script. Women’s health company Perelel announced on Wednesday the acquisition of LOOM a women’s educational health platform, for an undisclosed amount. LOOM’s founder Erica Chidi will join Perelel as a strategic advisor.  Chidi co-launched LOOM in 2017 as an in-person experience, offering women educational content about reproductive and sexual health education. By 2020, it expanded into an online subscription digital platform, providing courses, content, and community support to women. It raised a total of $6.5 million from investors like Slow Ventures, and Founders Fund, as well as celebrities such as actress Tessa Thompson and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow.  “I was like, the 34th Black woman to raise over a million dollars in venture capital,” Chidi recalled to TechCrunch, adding that she didn’t expect she would raise the nearly $3 million in three months back in late 2019. “At the moment, there was just a new interest in women’s health.”  Meanwhile, Alex Taylor, Dr. Banafsheh Bayati, and Victoria Thain Gioia launched Perelel in 2020 to offer clinically-backed vitamins to support women’s hormonal health. Zapp Electric Vehicles wants to turn its London-based electric two-wheeler brand into a global EV company. And India will be one of its launchpads, TechCrunch has exclusively learned. The company will launch its first product — an urban electric two-wheeler called the i300 — in the UK as early as next month, followed by Thailand. The company is now adding India into the mix, a massive market that will provide a true test to its international global expansion strategy, Zapp founder and CEO Swin Chatsuwan told TechCrunch in an interview. The Nasdaq-listed company advanced its plans for India after Chatsuwan noted the country’s potential. The world’s most populous country not only witnesses millions of two-wheeler sales annually, it’s also the second-biggest two-wheeler manufacturer worldwide after China. “We thought India would be phase two for us when we did our research a few years ago, but we made a decision earlier this year that it can’t wait,” Chatsuwan said. A hacker claims to be selling data relating to thousands of current and former employees of the Indian conglomerate Piramal Group, a multinational company that operates across pharma, financial services and real estate. In a listing on a known cybercrime forum last week seen by TechCrunch, the pseudonymous threat actor published a small portion of the allegedly stolen Piramal data for an undisclosed amount. The data sample included full names and email addresses. The allegedly stolen data could be a boon for cybercriminals by using the information for targeting employees with cyberattacks. Piramal Group has over 10,000 employees and 21 diverse nationalities working from its offices in over 30 countries worldwide, according to its website. The Mumbai-headquartered company also has a brand presence across over 100 markets globally. Piramal operates multiple subsidiaries, including the non-banking financial company Piramal Enterprises, pharmaceutical firm Piramal Pharma, healthcare company Piramal Healthcare, and real estate development arm Piramal Realty.
