This Is the Year Comic-Con Bounces Back

This Is the Year Comic-Con Bounces Back

What often gets lost in the hoopla around Comic-Con is that it’s run by a nonprofit. It’s important to organizers that the event do well so that, frankly, they can do more events, but it doesn’t need to make money, and as long as fans are pleased—whether by Hall H panels or just picking up a Todd McFarlane autograph—the show is a success. Comic-Con International, the organization behind Comic-Con, went into 2020 with roughly $25 million in reserves, and that money got them through the lean years. Perhaps even less than the studios, the organization could use a hit, Salkowitz notes, but it may not need it. Going into this year, organizers were “looking forward to having a normal year—normal being relative, of course,” says David Glanzer, Comic-Con’s chief communications and strategy officer. I’d asked him whether organizers were looking to make a bigger splash this year to recover from a couple of wobbly years at the start of the decade—a notion he pushed back on. The event features some 2,000 hours of programming, he …

Critics Have A Lot Of Emotions About Pixar’s New Inside Out Sequel

Critics Have A Lot Of Emotions About Pixar’s New Inside Out Sequel

One of the most beloved Pixar films in the studio’s history is getting a sequel, with Inside Out 2 hitting cinemas this weekend. The new movie takes us back into the mind of a now 13-year-old Riley and the mission control centre of emotions inside her head. However, this time around, there’s a whole host of new feelings added into the mix, thanks to the help of a stellar expanded cast, including The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke as Anxiety and Passages’ Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui. The first reviews for Inside Out 2 have been hugely positive, praising the sequel for living up to the magic of the first film. That being said, others have said that it’s missing a certain spark that made the original so popular. Here’s a sample of what critics have had to say so far… “Inside Out 2 glimmers with diamond-hard truths about the complex business of being a human being – especially a teenage human being – but it’s still a fast-paced and playful comedy …

Sashya Subono Halse: Indonesian animator who helped bring Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes to life

Sashya Subono Halse: Indonesian animator who helped bring Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes to life

Planning to catch Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes in cinemas this weekend? Don’t forget to pay close attention to how realistic the ape characters are.  Indonesian animator Sashya Subono Halse literally had a hand in that – as well as plenty of other movies and TV shows you’re probably very familiar with. The 36-year-old Subono is an animator at Weta FX, a digital visual effects and animation company based in Wellington, New Zealand.  In her four years with Weta FX, she has worked her animation magic on the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series Hawkeye and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Disney movies Avatar: The Way Of Water and Kingdom of the Planet Of The Apes.  Her expertise includes matchmoving, which involves making computer-generated elements appear as if they were recorded in the real world, and facial motion animation, which brings a character’s face to life by recording the movements and expressions of a human face and transferring them to a digital character. Subono told CNA Women that for as long as she can remember, she has …

Disney, Hulu and Max Streaming Bundle Will Soon Become Available

Disney, Hulu and Max Streaming Bundle Will Soon Become Available

In a rare moment of solidarity, two entertainment giants are teaming up to try to get consumers to stop canceling their streaming services so frequently. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Wednesday that they would start offering a bundle of their Disney+, Hulu and Max streaming services this summer, a sign of how rivals have become more willing to join forces in order to confront an ever-changing media landscape. The companies said that the bundle would be available to buy on any of the three streaming platform’s websites (Disney owns Disney+ and Hulu; Warner Bros. Discovery owns Max), and that there would be a commercial-free version as well as one featuring ads. The companies did not announce prices or a date when the offering would become available. The monthly retail price for subscribing to commercial-free versions of all three services is currently $48; the plans with ads cost a combined $25. A bundled offering is likely to cost less. Media executives have been vexed in recent years as the extremely profitable cable bundle has …

The companies say that it will be available to purchase on any of the three streaming platforms’ respective websites and users can choose from ad-supported or ad-free options. When bundled together the companies tout that users will be able to access content from a host of brands including “ABC, CNN, DC, Discovery, Disney, Food Network, FX, HBO, HGTV, Hulu, Marvel, Pixar, Searchlight and Warner Bros.”  It wasn’t immediately clear if this new offer would also include Disney’s ESPN Plus or Warner Bros. Discovery’s Bleacher Report or TNT Sports. As part of the sports joint venture, which is set to arrive later this year, the companies previously announced that there would be bundles of that sports-focused service with …

Sarah Ferguson’s unexpected Disney wedding guest dress alongside two daughters

Sarah Ferguson’s unexpected Disney wedding guest dress alongside two daughters

Green is one of Sarah Ferguson’s go-to colours, especially when it comes to her wedding guest outfits. Case in point was Louis Buckworth and Chloe Delevingne’s wedding in September 2007, when the Duchess of York was pictured at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge in an outfit reminiscent of a Disney movie. Instead of drawing inspiration from a princess, Sarah channelled Robin Hood with her knee-length olive frock, complete with a square neckline, draped bodice and floaty sleeves. © Max Mumby/IndigoSarah Ferguson and her two daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie attended Chloe Delevingne’s wedding in 2007 Sarah’s whimsical outfit was completed by black heels, leather gloves and a beaded bag, but her most notable accessory was arguably her leafy fascinator. Green and deep purple leaves gave a forest feel to her headpiece, not unlike the heroic archer’s feathered hat, which offset her fiery red hair styled half up and curled. She was pictured alongside her two daughters who wore more neutral ensembles. Princess Beatrice rocked a blue and white polka dot dress with a navy …

Beatles “Let It Be” doc: Disney+ restored version is a superb testament to resilience and creativity

Beatles “Let It Be” doc: Disney+ restored version is a superb testament to resilience and creativity

In recent years, music aficionados have been blessed with an embarrassment of riches —particularly when it comes to the Beatles. A newly restored version of “Let It Be” (1970), splendidly directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, marks the latest gem in the Beatles’ multiverse. The film was unveiled during a private screening last week at an Upper West Side cineplex, and it didn’t disappoint. Returned to its original glory, “Let It Be” is a work of sheer beauty, capturing rock ‘n’ roll’s most extraordinary foursome as they battled a series of daunting conditions and rediscovered their art in the nick of time. Crediting filmmaker Peter Jackson as his “silent partner,” Lindsay-Hogg reveled in the opportunity to restore his film in the wake of “Get Back” (2021), the three-part treatment that Jackson assembled from Lindsay-Hogg’s original footage. As Lindsay-Hogg pointed out prior to the screening, outside of the “Let It Be” project, “there had been no documentation of these amazing four guys who changed the history of music.” Indeed, beyond Lindsay-Hogg’s footage, we have scant imagery of the …

Ed Sheeran’s Met Gala Look Sparks 1 Iconic Film Comparison

Ed Sheeran’s Met Gala Look Sparks 1 Iconic Film Comparison

Ed Sheeran attended his first ever Met Gala on Monday night, and it didn’t take long for his outfit to be given the meme treatment. The four-time Grammy-winning artist stepped out on the iconic red carpet at this year’s even with an A-list troupe of fellow Brits, including Cara Delevingne and FKA Twigs. On the night, the group all represented Stella’s brand with their distinctive looks, including the Shape Of You singer who donned a baby blue tux. However, many fans couldn’t help but feel like they had seen the look before. FKA Twigs, Stella McCartney, Ed Sheeran, and Cara Delevingne on the Met Gala red carpet Dia Dipasupil via Getty Images “I love Ed Sheerran cosplaying as Troy Bolton at the Met Gala,” one X user joked in response. And they weren’t the only ones having déjà vu, with another posting: “Ed Sheeran is giving Troy Bolton when his tux is too tight.” And it looks like they weren’t the only ones making that comparison, either… ed sheeran looks like troy bolton in that …
