Stability AI sows gen AI discord with Stable Artisan

Join us in returning to NYC on June 5th to collaborate with executive leaders in exploring comprehensive methods for auditing AI models regarding bias, performance, and ethical compliance across diverse organizations. Find out how you can attend here. Stability AI is finally bringing its generative AI technology for text and video content to Discord. The new Stable Artisan Discord bot service officially launched today, enabling users to generate images with Stable Diffusion 3 (SD3) and video with Stable Video Diffusion (SVD) via a Discord bot. The idea of using Discord as an interface is one that rival gen AI image service Midjourney has had since it first debuted in 2022. Stability AI has been providing access to its core Stable Diffusion models via an API that developers could access. For the core model, the weights were also available on HuggingFace. Until February 22 of this year, Stable Diffusion was also available via the Clipdrop web service, which is now owned by gen AI startup Jasper. Stable Video on the other hand is still available via the …

Avoid (Some) Discord Server Chaos With New Polls Feature

Avoid (Some) Discord Server Chaos With New Polls Feature

Discord added a long-awaited feature earlier this month. Discord servers can now abandon voting bots and reaction-based voting systems in favor of polls. Many social and messaging platforms — like Mastodon and Slack — have had polling functions for years, but this is the first time Discord has formally added the feature. Discord started as a voice chat service for gamers, so perhaps a polling function wasn’t as useful then. But now, the use of Discord has expanded beyond gaming, and servers who use the platform primarily for messaging will find a lot of value in the new feature. Adding polls on Discord is easy. Here’s why you should consider using polls and what to know about voting using polls. And if you’re considering joining a server, here’s our complete guide to Discord and what to know about ads on Discord.  Read more: Overwatch 2 Season 10 Guide: The Game Has Never Been This Good This is what it looks like when a Discord poll is final. Discord obliterated a YouTube view count record. It may have been an accident.

Discord obliterated a YouTube view count record. It may have been an accident.

When it comes to breaking YouTube records, you’ve probably heard of MrBeast and his record of most subscribed individual creator on the platform. MrBeast also once held the record for most viewed YouTube video in a 24-hour period after one of his uploads from August 2023 received nearly 60 million views in a day. MrBeast’s 24-hour view record would quickly be bested by the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI trailer which dropped just this past December. The GTA 6 trailer garnered more than 74 million views to grab that record from MrBeast. But it seems like no one will be breaking the new record-holders view count any time soon. On Monday, April 1st, 2024, the popular messaging platform Discord dropped a video announcing a new “Loot Boxes” feature. While the “feature” existed, Discord wasn’t serious about it. It was an April Fools’ Day joke. Discord Loot Boxes have already been removed from the platform. But, somehow, Discord’s 18-second April Fools’ Loot Boxes video received more than one billion views in a 24 hour period. Yes, …

A Haunted Discord Server Is the Last Good Place Online

A Haunted Discord Server Is the Last Good Place Online

In a charming game called This Discord Has Ghosts in It, up to 15 participants at a time gather in a Discord server that has been reimagined as a haunted house. (Of course.) Inside lies a maze of (chat) rooms where each player takes the role of either an eponymous spirit or a paranormal investigator. Each character has a secret motivation, chosen at the start of the game: For investigators, their secret is the reason they are in the house; for ghosts, it’s what pins their shade to the mortal realm. Your MO is not to win but to “give away the game,” as the very purple game manual states. That means figuring out a way to communicate your secret to the other team. The problem is, you’re not allowed to just say it. Ghosts can interact with the game only via text-based chat. They can type descriptions of their hauntings, share images and GIFs, link to songs and videos, and add new rooms to the house. Meanwhile, investigators are confined to Discord’s voice call …

EU discord over Ukraine free trade spells trouble for Kyiv’s accession hopes – POLITICO

EU discord over Ukraine free trade spells trouble for Kyiv’s accession hopes – POLITICO

Enlargement woes With Kyiv seeking closer ties with Brussels, the question remains as to how much the EU will have to change to accommodate Ukraine within its borders. Importantly, Ukraine would become the biggest beneficiary of the EU’s agricultural subsidies, if current rules apply — and that would only stoke the farmers’ fury further.  What’s happening now, “is more than foretaste. It’s the reality of how difficult it will be for Ukraine to be a member of the single market,” said one European diplomat, granted anonymity due to the sensitivity of the discussions.  EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTION POLL OF POLLS For more polling data from across Europe visit POLITICO Poll of Polls. “[French President Emmanuel] Macron talks about sending boots on the ground, and now he’s afraid of Ukrainian eggs,” they added, referring to the push from the French leader for artillery shells and western boots in the war-torn country at the end of February.  It’s unlikely that things will get any less fraught once Ukraine moves closer to joining the bloc. “This will have an …

There Are Dark Corners of the Internet. Then There’s 764

WIRED collaborated with Der Spiegel, Recorder, and The Washington Post on this reporting. Each wrote separate stories that the news organizations agreed to publish in tandem. This story contains descriptions of abuse, self-harm, murder, and suicide. Reader discretion is advised. It sounds like a cheap true-crime conspiracy: An international network of predators steeped in Satanism lure children from seemingly harmless online platforms like Discord, Minecraft, and Roblox and extort them to sexually exploit and grievously harm themselves. Some victims are even pushed to suicide. Except it’s true. A reporting consortium including Der Spiegel, Recorder, The Washington Post, and WIRED has unearthed a sprawling ecosystem that has targeted thousands of people and victimized dozens, if not hundreds, of children using some of the internet’s biggest platforms. Law enforcement believes the “com” network encompasses a swath of interlocking groups with thousands of users, including hundreds of hardcore members who victimize children through coordinated online campaigns of extortion, doxing, swatting, and harassment. This reporting consortium has obtained and analyzed more than 3 million messages from more than 50 …
