Joe Lycett Shares His Take On ‘Disappointing’ Ricky Gervais

Joe Lycett has spoken out about some of the controversy surrounding fellow comedian Ricky Gervais’ recent material. Last week, Joe was a guest on the News Agents podcast, where the comic and occasional social commentator shared his take on the state of comedy in 2024. “Somebody literally said to me a few months ago, ‘it must be so hard being a comedian, don’t you miss being racist and homophobic?’,” he began. “Those were the actual words. And I was like, ‘funnily enough, I don’t miss that, weirdly’. I think it’s just that we’ve got more interesting as an industry, and started doing more interesting things.” As the conversation continued, the After Life creator’s name was mentioned, after his most recent Netflix special was met with a backlash due to comments about the trans community and its inclusion of ableist slurs. Joe insisted he would “never say that Gervais shouldn’t do what he does”, noting he can “say whatever he wants” in “a free society”. Ricky Gervais Mike Marsland via Getty Images “What I think is …

Jayapal: Any Biden action restricting migrants seeking asylum would be ‘extremely disappointing mistake’

Jayapal: Any Biden action restricting migrants seeking asylum would be ‘extremely disappointing mistake’

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said if President Biden takes executive action to restrict migrants seeking asylum at the southern border, he would be making a “mistake.” “This would be an extremely disappointing mistake,” Jayapal wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to CNN’s reporting that Biden is considering blocking those who cross into the United States illegally from filing an asylum claim. “Cruel enforcement-only policies have been tried for 30 years and simply do not work.” “Democrats cannot continue to take pages out of Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s playbook — We need to lead with dignity and humanity,” she added, referring to the former president’s senior adviser. Jayapal’s warning comes as Biden continues to face pressure to take action to curb the influx of migration at the southern border and an asylum system that even many Democrats have said is broken. CNN’s reporting, while indicating that no decision had been made by the White House on future steps, said the action under consideration “involves using an authority known as 212f between …

Ryan Gosling Shares Disappointing I’m Just Ken Oscars Update

While the discourse surrounding whether or not Barbie was snubbed at the upcoming Oscars became very tiresome very quickly, there’s been an update that we’re ready to get up in arms about. Although certain corners of the internet would have you believe that Barbie was overlooked completely at this year’s Academy Awards, the film actually picked up eight nominations, including two separate nods in the Best Original Song category. From the moment we found out I’m Just Ken was up for the award, we’ve been looking forward to Ryan Gosling bringing his unique brand of Ken-ergy to the Oscars stage – but it’s now emerged it might not even be happening. “I still have not been asked,” he told Variety as part of a wider interview published on Wednesday. “It might be too much of a risk to have me do it.” The Canadian actor added that while he’s not sure “how that would work”, he’s very much “open to it” if he is invited to perform. Seriously, Oscars bosses. Don’t deprive us of this. …

Netanyahu’s opposition to Palestinian state ‘disappointing’, says Shapps

The UK said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to Palestinian sovereignty is “disappointing”. “I think it’s disappointing actually, to hear that from the Israeli prime minister,” said Defence Secretary Grant Shapps. His comments came after Netanyahu doubled down on his refusal of a Palestinian state. According to a spokesperson for the Israeli prime minister, he claimed in a call with Joe Biden that Israel’s security needs left no space for a sovereign Palestinian state. “In his conversation with President Biden, prime minister Netanyahu reiterated his policy that, after Hamas is destroyed, Israel must retain security control over Gaza to ensure that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel, a requirement that contradicts the demand for Palestinian sovereignty,” a statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office said. Mr Shapps told BBC One’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg that a two-state solution was the only option. “Palestinians deserve a sovereign state, Israel deserves to have the full ability to defend itself, its own security,” he said. “Unless you pursue a two-state solution, …

Jordan Love’s Strong 1st Season as Packers QB Ends With Disappointing Playoff Loss

Jordan Love’s Strong 1st Season as Packers QB Ends With Disappointing Playoff Loss

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — For all that went well in Jordan Love’s first season as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, the end proved disappointing. The Packers are headed home after a crushing playoff loss. “I think it’ll sting for a while,” Love said. “Watching all the games going forward it will sting just knowing that we had an opportunity to win and we dropped the ball on that one. It’ll sting for a while but we’ll be able to look back on it and see some good things we did.” Love accomplished plenty in his first season in place of Aaron Rodgers. He helped the Packers (10-9) overcome a 2-5 start to the season to make the playoffs. He followed that up with a three-touchdown performance in a wild-card win at Dallas last week and had Green Bay in position to knock off the top-seeded 49ers. Political Cartoons Love threw TD passes on back-to-back drives to open the second half to put the Packers in the lead. He threw a 19-yarderto …

Nauru’s Decision to Break with Taiwan ‘Disappointing’

Nauru’s Decision to Break with Taiwan ‘Disappointing’

WASHINGTON —  The United States said Monday that the government of Nauru’s severing diplomatic ties with Taiwan is “disappointing,” despite it being a sovereign decision. The Pacific Island nation announced its decision to switch diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China shortly after Taiwan’s presidential and legislative elections. “Taiwan is a reliable, like-minded, and democratic partner. The PRC often makes promises in exchange for diplomatic relations that ultimately remain unfulfilled,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement late Monday. He was referring to People’s Republic of China. Miller added: “We encourage all countries to expand engagement with Taiwan and to continue to support democracy, good governance, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.” The Republic of Nauru “will no longer recognize the Republic of China (Taiwan) as a separate country but rather as an inalienable part of China’s territory,” said the Nauru government in an official statement on Monday. In Beijing, Chinese officials praised the move. “China appreciates and welcomes the decision of the government of the Republic of Nauru,” said Mao Ning …

WeWork co-founder says anticipated bankruptcy filing ‘disappointing’ | WeWork

The WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann described reports the shared office provider is preparing for bankruptcy as “disappointing” after trading of its shares was suspended. Neumann, who built the business into one of the world’s most highly-valued private companies, left four years ago in the wake of a botched bid to take it public, and concern over his management style. Watching WeWork struggle has been “challenging”, Neumann said on Monday, expressing confidence that it could “emerge successfully” from a reorganization. Trading in the struggling company’s stock was halted ahead of the opening bell on the New York stock exchange. WeWork, which said last week the company does not comment on speculation after the Wall Street Journal reported it was planning to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, did not respond to a request for comment. Fans are finding out just how disappointing merchandise for women’s football is

England goalkeeper Mary Earps was named player of the match in England’s victory over Nigeria in the Fifa Women’s World Cup. She has played a key role in England’s recent successes, not just at the World Cup but in previous tournaments. Her performances have made her a hero to her fans. But Earps’ fans are unable to emulate her by wearing a replica of her goalkeeper shirt: it is not being put up for sale by team kit manufacturer Nike. Earps has said that her goalkeeping shirt not being available to buy is “hurtful”, and a petition by fans calling for the shirt to be produced has reached over 35,000 signatures. We are currently researching the availability of kits for women’s football fans, together with colleague Jess Richards. The merchandise and clothing available to female fans and male fans of women’s teams is often limited, undesirable or just not available. Female fans have expressed dissatisfaction with merchandise offered in varying shades of pink. A women’s Manchester United shirt with a low neckline produced in 2015 …
