Hilarious, defiant and unabashedly weird: Conan O’Brien hasn’t lost an iota of his underdog brilliance | US television

Like Buster Keaton, Gene Kelly, and Jackie Chan before him, Conan O’Brien shows his genius in his adaptivity, the ability to insert himself into any setting and incorporate its material into the contours of his act. He gave a tour-de-force demonstration during his recent, instantly viral, appearance on Hot Ones, where he treated the show’s premise – guests eat chicken wings while answering questions – as a jumping-off point for his own anarchic brand of comedy. He brought along his longtime staff writer José Arroyo in character as “Dr Arroyo”, an incompetent yet affordable physician on hand to ensure that O’Brien’s gentle Irish constitution could withstand all the spice. After finishing each hot wing, O’Brien stashed the bones in his pocket until it bulged to capacity, at which point he started stuffing them in Dr Arroyo’s lab coat. He maintained his composure admirably through the escalating Scoville spiciness scores, only to hit a sudden wall on the penultimate wing and swiftly lose his mind. Expelling rivers of phlegm and drooling mouthfuls of milk, he then …

Battling Ireland overcome defiant Scotland to retain Six Nations title | Six Nations 2024

Battling Ireland overcome defiant Scotland to retain Six Nations title | Six Nations 2024

In the end a bit of an anticlimax, for the neutral at least. The scenes at the Aviva Stadium come the final whistle were familiar. Another Ireland win, a 19th consecutive such result at home; another Six Nations title. But this was not secured with the imperious air we have come to expect of this team. After withstanding a fearful battering in the second half for the concession of only 10 points, Scotland struck with two minutes to play with a typically incisive score, Huw Jones slicing through grasping Irish hands to narrow the deficit to four points again. The visitors were after a gong of their own – the triple crown. Ireland were down to 14, after Harry Byrne had been shown the latest yellow for an accidental clash of heads Irish fans might have been nervous at that point, but Ireland kicked long, and Scotland knocked on as they tried the almost inconceivable. Ireland had the result they needed and with it a second consecutive Six Nations title. They will rue that defeat …

Defiant Prince Harry will return to UK despite failing to secure armed security | Royal | News

Prince Harry is still determined to return to the UK despite losing in the High Court against the Home Office over whether his security should be returned to him, according to an expert. The expert claimed that the Duke of Sussex will not be put off coming to Britain, and will still want to see his father King Charles as he continues to receive cancer treatment. When Harry left the Royal Family behind to move to the US it was decided by RAVEC (Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures) in February 2020 that he would no longer be given the “same degree” of publicly-funded protection when he travels to the UK. The Duke challenged the decision, however the court found in favour of the Home Office and their decision not to offer him the same level of protection afforded to working royals still stands. Former head of royal protecton Dai Davies told The Mirror: “He won’t be put off, his Chief of Protection appears to be an ex-Sergeant in royalty protection …

Dmitry Azarov/Sputnik, Kremlin Pool Photo via AP MOSCOW — As the war in Ukraine enters its third year, Russian President Vladimir Putin is projecting confidence his country can both outlast Western support for Kyiv and thrive economically despite a continued ratcheting of sanctions. The eve of the war anniversary coincided with Defenders of the Fatherland Day on Friday — a Soviet-era holiday, still observed by millions of Russians, with roots in the USSR’s victory over Nazi Germany. In a video address to the nation, Putin took the moment to once again draw false comparisons between the Soviet victory over fascist Germany and his current invasion of Ukraine. “You are our true national heroes,” said Putin in addressing troops fighting in Ukraine. …

‘Putin must lose everything’: defiant Zelenskiy hosts western leaders in Kyiv to mark two years of war | Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskiy welcomed western leaders to Kyiv on Saturday on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, declaring that Vladimir Putin “must lose absolutely everything”. Ukraine’s president met the prime ministers of Italy, Canada and Belgium – Giorgia Meloni, Justin Trudeau and Alexander De Croo – as well as the European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. The leaders visited Hostomel airport, near Kyiv, which Russian paratroopers seized at the start of Moscow’s all-out attack. Ukrainian troops regained control of the airfield and thwarted Russian plans to capture the capital. “Two years ago we met enemy troopers here with fire, and two years later, we are meeting our friends, our partners, here,” Zelenskiy said. He added: “Any normal person wants the war to end. But none of us will allow our Ukraine to end”. Dear great people of a great country, I am immensely proud of each of you. I admire each one of you. I believe in each one of you. Any normal person wants the war to end. But none of …

Restaurants bustle, new bookshops open, the air raid app goes off. This is our defiant reality in Kyiv | Nataliya Gumenyuk

A family member who works for the Kyiv Сity State Administration, recently told me about a colleague. She is a single mother with a 10-year-old son. After hearing a recent explosion during one of the air raids, she fainted; her son, convinced she had died, knocked on the neighbour’s door asking for help at 3am. Two months later, she quit her job at the administration’s housing department, which, on top of its regular work, is now reviewing requests for financial compensation from Kyiv residents whose flats were damaged by recent missile attacks. They have two months to provide residents with decisions. They often work from 7am till 11pm, rushing home just before the curfew. Her resignation has taken a toll on the others. Such stories are not dramatic enough to be reported, but they are everyday realities for many people in Ukraine. Two years after the full-scale invasion, most Ukrainians are pretending to live normal lives. On the surface, a foreign visitor might be amazed by how vibrant daily life still appears to be in …

Madonna Shuts Down Ageist Critics In Defiant New Ad Campaign

Madonna Shuts Down Ageist Critics In Defiant New Ad Campaign

Madonna had a defiant message for her ageist critics in her elaborate new ad campaign. The Grammy winner is one of the famous faces featured in a new campaign for the Brazilian bank Itaú, alongside a host of Brazilian stars. During her ad, Madonna reflected on her decades-spanning career, and her hopes to “keep going”. “They call me the Queen of Pop,” she began. “I know it’s a compliment, but the monarchy is in the past. I am not.” On the subject of her age, the Like A Prayer singer continued: “I have no age. I’m all ages. “It’s not about who I am. It’s about how many I am. Count my achievements, not the number of years I have lived on this planet.” She went on to reiterate a claim she previously made at the Billboard Awards in 2016, stating: “I think the most controversial thing I have ever done, is to stick around.” “I have seen many stars appear and disappear, like shooting stars. But my light will never fade,” she added. “Not …

Defiant Biden Slaps Back at Report Panning His Mental Fitness | National News

An agitated President Joe Biden pushed back hard Thursday night on reports that he “willfully” retained classified documents or that his memory was faulty, refuting parts of a Department of Justice Report that had good legal news for Biden but described him as “elderly” and forgetful. “There’s some attention paid to some language in the report about my recollection of events,” Biden said in a hastily called news conference at the White House. “There’s even reference that I don’t remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that?” Biden said, turning emotional as he often does when he speaks of Beau Biden, who died of a brian tumor in 2015. “I don’t need anyone to remind me when he passed away,” Biden said. The president noted that daily he wears a rosary that reminds him of his late son. The unusual press availability came after a day when the Department of Justice released a 345-page report on Biden’s possession of classified documents at his office and home after he left the …
