Okta’s latest hack fallout hits Cloudflare, 1Password

Network and security giant Cloudflare and password manager maker 1Password said hackers briefly targeted their systems following a recent breach of Okta’s support unit. Both Cloudflare and 1Password said their recent intrusions were linked to the Okta breach, but that the incidents did not affect their customer systems or user data. “We immediately terminated the activity, investigated, and found no compromise of user data or other sensitive systems, either employee-facing or user-facing,” said 1Password chief technology officer Pedro Canahuati in a blog post. “We’ve confirmed that this was a result of Okta’s support system breach,” said Canahuati. Okta, which provides single sign-on technology to companies and organizations, said late on Friday that hackers had broken into its customer support unit and stole files uploaded by its customers for diagnosing technical problems. These files include browser recording sessions that can contain sensitive user credentials, such as cookies and session tokens, which if stolen can allow hackers to impersonate user accounts. Okta spokesperson Vitor De Souza told TechCrunch that about 1% of its 17,000 corporate customers — …

Cloudflare launches Observability, a tool to beef up web monitoring

Cloudflare launches Observability, a tool to beef up web monitoring

Organizations increasingly see observability — the ability to measure a system’s current state based on the data it generates — as key. In a recent survey from New Relic, more than three-quarters (78%) of IT decision-makers and practitioners said that they saw observability as an enabler for achieving business goals. Website observability and analytics in particular can be tricky beasts, given the dynamic and evolving nature of the web. But those who ignore them risk a negative impact to their business. A recent study by SOASTA shows that longer page load times lead to higher bounce rates (“bounce rates” referring to the rate at which visitors quickly leave), averaging at 13% for loads under three seconds and going up to almost 60% after nine seconds. There’s no shortage of products tackling the web observability challenge, from Google Analytics to Chartbeat to Parse.ly. But Cloudflare, the provider of a growing number of content delivery network and security services, thinks it can do one better. Cloudflare tomorrow launches Observatory (replacing Cloudflare’s old Speed Tab), an approach to …

Cloudflare co-founders will talk growth, changing markets and more on Disrupt’s SaaS Stage

Cloudflare co-founders will talk growth, changing markets and more on Disrupt’s SaaS Stage

Co-founders Matthew Prince and Michelle Zatlyn launched Cloudflare to the world during the Startup Battlefield competition at TechCrunch Disrupt back in 2010. Fast-forward 13 years, and the startup has grown to become a leading internet infrastructure and security company. Operating one of the largest global networks, Cloudflare services 275 cities in more than 100 countries. Roughly 18% of all websites use Cloudflare, including Netflix.com, NYTimes.com and Nih.gov to name but a few. We’re excited to share that both Prince (CEO) and Zatlyn (president and COO) will join us for a fireside chat on the SaaS Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2023, which takes place September 19–21. We’re especially excited because these days, it’s a rare event to have both co-founders appear together on one stage. We’re eager to hear what life has been like as a public company — Prince and Zatlyn rang the New York Stock Exchange bell in 2019. We’ll get their take on growing the company beyond the core business to add products like Cloudflare Workers. We’re also looking forward to their insights …
