Pic: Amazon Studios Taking a day away from filming, and speaking about the show, Chopra Jonas admitted: “I have to say that it was the first time in my career that I received pay parity. It was not something I even thought was possible. “Did it happen because the head of the studio was female? Maybe”. Chopra Jonas, who founded her own production company, Purple Pebble Pictures, in 2015, began her rise to fame after winning Miss World 24 years ago. She was speaking to head of Amazon Studios Jen Salke at Trailblazers, a Prime Video event to celebrate women both on and off-screen. The first season of Citadel is …

‘Space Mountain’ Movie Lands ‘Cowboy Beebop’ Showrunners (Exclusive)

Action scribes Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are going to Disneyland. The prolific team behind Amazon’s high-profile spy series Citadel and showrunners on Netflix’s adaptation of Cowboy Bebop have been tapped to write Disney’s live-action adaptation of Space Mountain. Jonathan Eirich from Rideback, the banner that is behind Netflix’s hit live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, is producing the feature, which has been in development for several years, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Harold was the project’s previous writer. Rideback’s Ryan Halprin is exec producing. Space Mountain is the venerable space-themed indoor roller coaster that was first introduced in Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort in 1975, followed by an installation in California’s Disneyland in 1977. It became a fixture in the Tomorrowland section as other parks opened up and is now in five of the six parks around the world.  The ride has no overarching theme nor memorable characters seen in such rides as Pirates of the Caribbean. In fact, Space Mountain in Disneyland has been turned into Hyperspace Mountain and …

Citadel Securities blasts Trump Media CEO over DJT short sale letter

Citadel Securities blasts Trump Media CEO over DJT short sale letter

Devin Nunes, chief executive officer of Truth Social, speaks during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Maryland, US, on Thursday, March 2, 2023.  Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty Images Citadel Securities ripped Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes on Friday for a letter he sent to the Nasdaq that mentioned Citadel Securities and other major market companies after warning of possible illegal short selling of Trump Media shares. “Devin Nunes is the proverbial loser who tries to blame ‘naked short selling’ for his falling stock price,” said a spokesperson for Citadel Securities. Citadel Securities’ founder and non-executive chairman, Ken Griffin, is a major donor to Republican candidates — among them Nunes, a former GOP congressman. “Nunes is exactly the type of person Donald Trump would have fired on [The] Apprentice,” said the spokesperson, referring to the former Republican president’s business competition reality TV show. “If he [Nunes] worked for Citadel Securities, we would fire him, as ability and integrity are at the center of everything we do,” the spokesperson added. A spokeswoman …

Ant Group outbids Citadel for Credit Suisse’s China unit, Bloomberg reports

Ant Group outbids Citadel for Credit Suisse’s China unit, Bloomberg reports

:Fintech giant Ant Group has outbid billionaire Ken Griffin’s Citadel Securities for Credit Suisse’s investment bank venture in China, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, adding it was unclear whether the Chinese company’s offer would succeed. Alibaba Group affiliate Ant Group’s bid to build a securities business in China using Credit Suisse’s operations would face a thorough review because Beijing favours a foreign buyer, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. Seller UBS, now the owner of Credit Suisse, will now face a dilemma in choosing between the higher local bid from Ant, or the lower Citadel bid submitted in December offering about 1.5 billion yuan ($208.47 million) to 2 billion yuan that is more likely to win government approval, the report added. Ant Group declined to comment. The fintech giant has been working under the guidance of Chinese regulators to turn itself into a financial holding company to ensure its financial-related businesses are fully regulated. UBS and Citadel did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. The bidding for Credit Suisse’s China …

Cairo Reopens Citadel to Public, as Egypt Prepares Tourism Plan

Egypt announced Sunday that it has expanded access to Cairo‘s Saladin Citadel, a nearly 850-year-old fortress that towers over the Egyptian capital. The Citadel, according to the Egyptian government, is one of the city’s main tourist attractions and “probably the most popular Islamic monument” there. It was the seat of Egyptian government from the 13th century to the 19th century. While parts of the fortress have been open to visitors since 1983, on Sunday, the city opened access to the Ramla and Haddad towers, among other sections, after a restoration effort. Related Articles The restoration and the opening of the sites is part of Egypt’s National Strategy for Developing Tourism, which was previously launched by Ahmed Eissa, Egyptian minister for tourism and antiquities, according to Egypt Independent. “I’m being told by travel agencies that the citadel visit doesn’t last more than an hour. Our plan in the coming months is to extend the time in which visitors tour the citadel from one hour to at least three,” Eissa told reporters Sunday, according to Reuters. “This …

‘I thought we’d stormed the citadel, but we hadn’t’: Claudette Johnson on blazing a trail for Black artists – and the joy of reigniting her career | Art

There is a crackly tape recording of Claudette Johnson addressing Britain’s first ever Black Art Convention in Wolverhampton in 1982. It is one of those stray recovered moments in the national conversation that passing time has made electric. Johnson was 22, and her voice on the recording is tentative but spirited as she goes through slides of the new paintings she has been making as a student at the city’s polytechnic – mostly big, bold canvases of Black women – and sets them beside more familiar images from the canon of western art: Paul Gauguin’s “exotic” South Sea islanders, say, or Édouard Manet’s Olympia, in which a Black servant almost disappears into the shadows beside the spotlit white nude in the foreground. On the tape, Johnson’s small voice makes a determined case for the idea that what she was doing in her second-year fine art course in the Midlands had never been done before, at least in Britain. “Black women have been presented as people who did not have anything to offer in themselves but …

Fidelity, Schwab, Citadel backing new crypto exchange EDX signals TradFi’s deeper dive into digital assets

Follow me on Twitter @Jacqmelinek for breaking crypto news, memes and more. Welcome back to Chain Reaction. Earlier this week, EDX Markets launched its digital asset platform, the firm shared on Tuesday. But what has made this launch catch a lot of attention? Its founding investors, which include major traditional firms like Charles Schwab, Citadel Securities, Fidelity Digital Assets and Sequoia Capital, alongside Paradigm and Virtu Financial. The company also recently closed a fresh funding round that brought on additional strategic investors, including Miami International Holdings, DV Crypto, GTS, GSR Markets LTD and HRT Technology. The new capital will be used to help develop EDX’s trading platform, among other elements. The platform aims to be the “crypto marketplace of choice for industry leaders,” with plans to build on traditional finance practices to provide liquidity, competitive quotes and a non-custodial model to mitigate conflicts of interest, it said. The platform also introduced a “retail-only quote to the crypto markets,” which allows users to get better pricing for retail orders. The platform will have limited offerings for …
