Day 21 of the 2024 Space Telescope Advent Calendar: Inside a Chaotic Nebula

Day 21 of the 2024 Space Telescope Advent Calendar December 21, 2024, 11:31 AM ET NASA, ESA, STScI / AURA Day 21 of the 2024 Space Telescope Advent Calendar: inside a chaotic nebula. Sharpless 2-106 is a nebula several light-years across, seen here by Hubble in 2011. It lies 2,000 light-years away, in a relatively isolated region of the Milky Way galaxy. A massive young star is responsible for the furious activity we see inside the nebula. Twin lobes of super-hot gas, glowing blue in this image, stretch outward from the central star. A ring of dust and gas orbiting the star acts as a belt, cinching the expanding nebula into an hourglass shape. See the full advent calendar here, where a new image will be revealed each day until December 25. Source link

Is the chaotic weather in the Middle East paving the way for Jesus’ Second Coming? – OpentheWord.org

Snow that fell in Saudi Arabia on November 1, 2024Credit: Twitter:@Kamran_khan_3 There is an interesting article on Israel365 News (I3N), an Orthodox Jewish news site based in Israel, talking about an unusual weather event that took place this month in the Middle East. In his article, Adam Berkowitz discussed how snow fell in the region of Al-Jawf located in Saudi Arabia. This was first time in recorded history that this area has seen snow. Prior to this unprecedented snowfall, the area was inundated with rain and storms that “created waterfalls, revitalizing the valleys and infusing the region with life,” Berkowitz added. In fact, the Saudi weather forecasters are predicting more heavy rain for the region in the coming days. But it is not just happening in Saudi Arabia. “Snow has also appeared in other unlikely areas,” Berkowitz wrote. “Last month, the Sahara Desert, the world’s largest hot desert, was blanketed in snow last month following two freak snowstorms in 2018. This came after a 38-year hiatus in snow.” But Berkowitz adds that this unprecedented snow …

Election disinformation is getting more chaotic

Election disinformation is getting more chaotic

This is an edition of The Atlantic Daily, a newsletter that guides you through the biggest stories of the day, helps you discover new ideas, and recommends the best in culture. Sign up for it here. Earlier this month, as hurricanes ravaged parts of the Southeast, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Marjorie Taylor Greene were among those amplifying dangerous disinformation about the storms and recovery efforts. The ensuing social-media chaos, as my colleague Elaine Godfrey has written, was just a preview of what we may see on and after Election Day. I spoke with Elaine, who covers politics, about what makes this moment so ripe for conspiracy theories, the ways online campaigns shape the real world, and how this all could still escalate soon. Lora Kelley: In your recent story about the disinformation that spread after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, you warned that things would get even more chaotic around election time. What makes this moment so hospitable for disinformation? Elaine Godfrey: A lot of the things going on now were not happening in the …

Lady Gaga’s Joker Press Tour Is Officially Underway, And It’s Off To A Gloriously Chaotic Start

Lady Gaga’s Joker Press Tour Is Officially Underway, And It’s Off To A Gloriously Chaotic Start

Well, Joker: Folie À Deux is now just a few short months away, and Gaga has given her first interview about the project. And folks… it’s a good ’un. Speaking to Empire, Gaga disclosed that she had to use her voice in a way like never before in order to perfect singing in character as Harley Quinn. “People know me by my stage name, Lady Gaga, right? That’s me as that performer,” she explained. “But that is not what this movie is. “I’m playing a character. So I worked a lot on the way that I sang to come from Lee and to not come from me as a performer.” Gaga added: “How do you take music and have it just be an extension of the dialogue, as opposed to breaking into song for no conceivable reason? It was unlike anything I’ve ever done before.” Strap in, people, this press tour is going to be a treat. Joker: Folie À Deux hits cinemas on Friday 4 October. Watch the trailer below: Source link

Why is Sunak’s election campaign so chaotic? – podcast | News

Why is Sunak’s election campaign so chaotic? – podcast | News

It started with more a whimper than a bang. Rishi Sunak’s surprise election announcement was marred by pouring rain and a protester blasting out the Labour 1997 campaign classic Things Can Only Get Better. But since then things have not exactly got any better for Sunak. From Steve Baker going on holiday to Lucy Allan endorsing a Reform candidate, his MPs have not all fallen into line, while Michael Gove surprised many by joining the large number of Tory MPs saying they will not stand. The Guardian’s senior political correspondent Peter Walker says that while not disastrous, it is certainly far from the smooth, slick start Sunak would have wanted to his campaign. Hannah Moore finds out how the Conservatives’ two recent policy announcements – bringing in national service and offering a tax break to pensioners – have been received. And she asks: after a rocky first week, can Sunak steady his ship? Photograph: Aaron Chown/PA Support The Guardian The Guardian is editorially independent. Alison Hammond’s Reunion With Ryan Gosling Was Gloriously Chaotic

Alison Hammond’s Reunion With Ryan Gosling Was Gloriously Chaotic

For many of those who aren’t regular This Morning viewers, Alison Hammond’s interview with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling way back in 2017 was their first glimpse at her unique – and hilarious – interview technique. And when the daytime host and Barbie actor were reunited during Monday’s edition of the ITV show, we’re pleased to report that things were every bit as entertaining (and chaotic) as you’d expect. Ryan sat down with Alison and his co-star Emily Blunt to discuss their new film The Fall Guy, with the Canadian star confirming he remembered Alison from their now-iconic first meeting. As the interview went on, she couldn’t help but bring up his Oscar-nominated performance in Greta Gerwig’s recent Barbie movie. “Do you think, Ryan, that Ken will always be inside of you?” Alison asked. However, it didn’t take long for this particular choice of words to get Emily, and everyone else on set, descending into giggles. Watch more highlights from the interview below: i really dont want the fall guy press tour to end, i’ve …

To Experience Pure Anxiety, Watch This Video of a Self-Driving Car Navigating India’s Chaotic Traffic

“If you’re able to build here, this technology is universal.” Waymo Terrifying We’re willing to bet that you’ve never seen anything quite as anxiety-inducing as a recent video shared by Indian startup Swaayatt Robots, showing an extremely adventurous self-driving SUV navigating the hectic streets of Bhopal, India. The nation’s streets are infamously chaotic, with basic rules of the road taking a backseat. In other words, they’re not exactly ideal conditions for driverless vehicles, which already struggle to account for ever-changing built environments. As US-based robotaxi companies have already found out, it’s an extremely difficult task — and that’s in a far more predictable environment where cars, at least generally speaking, stop at red lights and respect lane markings. Swaayatt, however, isn’t dissuaded. A video shared by the startup last month shows its sensor-laden vehicle “driving through an absolute chaos, on suburban unstructured roads in India,” as the company put it in the caption. “This is the most complex that it can get for an autonomous vehicle,” Swaayatt CEO Sanjeev Sharma told IEEE Spectrum. “If you’re …

Chaotic and thrilling: Columbia’s radio station is live from the student protests | US universities

“The turning point was certainly immediate, very sudden … We received a tip at 4am that there would be a demonstration on Columbia’s campus, and pretty soon after that, we went live on air.” The presenter, Georgia Dillane, is describing the moment on 17 April that student radio station WKCR was thrust into the spotlight with its quick news updates from inside the university grounds. As students established a pro-Palestinian encampment on the lawns, the station dropped its usual mix of music and specialist programming in favor of breaking news. From the station’s HQ on Broadway, Dillane has become a familiar voice behind the mic, alongside several colleagues and a team of journalists in the field reporting on everything from yet more police arriving on campus to performance arts clubs entertaining classmates. In the seven days since the encampment was founded, clashes between students on one side and university administrators and the NYPD on the other have only intensified, following the arrest of more than 100 students last Thursday. Columbia University students demonstrate in the …

If You Thought April Was A Chaotic Month, An Astrologer Says Just Wait Until August

If You Thought April Was A Chaotic Month, An Astrologer Says Just Wait Until August

Astrologically speaking, April’s transits certainly threw us for a loop. The month of April opened up with Mercury retrograde in the sign of Aries on April Fool’s Day. Aries season had two significant eclipses, with the lunar eclipse in March echoing into April. Add to that the April 8 solar eclipse in Aries, bringing a lot of chaos in the month. What makes the solar eclipse in Aries so memorable is that it is in a cardinal sign, and not only that, Aries is ruled by Mars, which brings the intensity up a lot. On April 10th, we experienced the beginning of the Mars and Saturn conjunction, adding another element of intensity to the mix. However, things got much more manageable on April 19th and 20th, with Mars making a sextile to Jupiter, pulling us from the Mars and Saturn transit slump. On the 20th, Jupiter conjunct Uranus promises some sudden surprises, a time to feel liberated and more optimistic about our responsibilities. These transits can also help us push forward with plans. What these transits are …

Grimes Apologises After ‘Chaotic’ Coachella Performance

Grimes Apologises After ‘Chaotic’ Coachella Performance

Singer-songwriter and music producer Grimes has issued an apology to her fans after her set at Coachella was plagued with technical issues. The Canadian star performed during the second day of this year’s festival on Saturday, during which she was seen struggling with failing tech and, at one point, letting out a scream of frustration. After her set, Grimes posted a long statement on X (formerly Twitter) to those in attendance. “I wanted to come back really strong and usually I always handle every aspect of my show myself,” she began. “To save time this was one of the first times I’ve outsourced essential things like [DJ software] rekordbox BPMs and letting someone else organise the tracks on the SD card etc. “I had a bad feeling beforehand not having run everything through the CDJs myself, and [although] I flagged it, I wasn’t insistent.” Grimes went on to say she’d learned a “big lesson” thanks to her Coachella set, namely “if you want it done right, do it yourself”, “be a cunt, even if people …
