Tragedy as newborn baby dies after mum ‘fell asleep while breastfeeding’ | UK | News

A newborn baby tragically died after her exhausted mother was sent home just four hours after prolonged labour, an inquest has heard. Little Evelyn Grace March was just one day old when her mother tragically fell asleep while trying to breastfeed her in bed.  Evelyn and her mother were discharged from the hospital on September 26, 2023, despite the mother having had little sleep for two days leading up to the birth.  Around 1.45 a.m. on September 27, Evelyn was brought into her mother’s bed because she was unsettled. While breastfeeding, the mother is believed to have fallen asleep. When she awoke at approximately 4 am, she found her baby unresponsive under her breast. Despite emergency efforts, Evelyn could not be revived and was sadly pronounced dead at 7.50 a.m. at Leeds General Infirmary, where she had been born just the day before, reports The Sun. While the official cause of death was recorded as “unascertained,” the coroner suggested that accidental suffocation by a sleeping adult was the likely cause.  During the inquest, it was determined …

Arj Barker, who was performing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival on Saturday (20 April), was subject to backlash among some female attendees who left in solidarity following his decision to eject Trish Faranda. Speaking to an Australian radio station, Faranda said she was “humiliated”, while an unrepentant Barker said he was acting on behalf of the “700 people who paid to see the gig”. “She wasn’t screaming,” Faranda said of the alleged disrupter, her young daughter, Clara, whom she had tried to settle by breastfeeding. “She was just being a baby, she gurgled a little bit, she had a bit of a whinge … nothing loud.” Speaking to 3AW, Faranda explained was sitting towards the …

I’m a first-time mum and here’s what you need to know about breastfeeding

I’m a first-time mum and here’s what you need to know about breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is recommended by the World Heath Organisation due to the overwhelming benefits of breastmilk, but many mums will tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks! With that in mind, I’m going to share my personal experience along with some helpful advice I’ve learned along the way and tips from the experts to help you master this new skill.  My experience of breastfeeding I’m a first-time mum who has experienced the highs and lows of breastfeeding. A disclaimer before I start – although I’m continually amazed by the wonders of breastfeeding for both mum and baby, I’m not here to preach. I’m of the belief that a fed baby is a happy one so please do whatever works for you personally, but here’s my story… My local shopping centre has a special feeding space I became a mum in 2023, giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. The moment after he was placed on my chest he latched perfectly. The midwife turned around to the student and said: “You’ll never see that again!” …

3 Ways To Look After Yourself While Breastfeeding

3 Ways To Look After Yourself While Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding as a first time parent makes you second guess yourself quite a bit — is the baby even getting milk? Is the baby latching properly? Is the baby comfortable in this position? But parents often forget to think about themselves when in reality if the breastfeeding parent isn’t comfortable or in a good mental space, it’s difficult to feel positive while breastfeeding. Before you begin your breastfeeding journey it’s important to understand the ways you can be kind to your body. So, here are some ways you can make sure you’re looked after! Find a comfortable breastfeeding position Research has also found that when mothers have poor breastfeeding posture, it may lead to shoulder, neck, back or hand pain. This is common across so many breastfeeding stories of parents who don’t have the adequate support or the right feeding equipment. Breastfeeding in the correct position helps to minimise the risk of this pain. Nursing chair store iL Tutto spokesperson says there are ways to make sure you are comfortable while breastfeeding, especially to minimise …

Does Drinking Your Own Breast Milk Prevent You From Getting Sick?

Does Drinking Your Own Breast Milk Prevent You From Getting Sick?

The Kardashians are known to shill some pretty problematic wellness ideas, from skinny teas to waist trainers. And there’s no shortage of documentation on social media. The latest health experiment came from Kourtney Kardashian, who posted an Instagram story on Wednesday saying she was trying a rather homemade remedy to ward off sickness: breast milk. “I just pounded a glass of breastmilk because I feel sick ???? goodnight!” Kardashian wrote. (Her youngest son, Rocky, was born in November.) The concept may not be totally out of left field if you’re a parent. It’s well-known that breast milk contains essential nutrients and antibodies that help babies build up their immune systems and protect them from getting sick. The idea that it can help adults as well isn’t new. Some supplement companies are even creating human milk capsules that claim to help with immunity, digestion and more, but the effectiveness is unknown. Given that this idea has been around for a while ― and that Kardashian seems to trust it ― does this mean this cold-preventing method …

Why is there still a stigma around breastfeeding in public?

Why is there still a stigma around breastfeeding in public?

I didn’t fully appreciate the physical and emotional demands of parenthood before having my first baby. The combination of night feeds, never-ending nappy changes, boisterous bedtimes and juggling other commitments made the completion of day-to-day tasks improbable and the idea of leaving the house seem impossible. Still, like most women, I was determined to do what I’d always done and keep living a normal life. My boobs had other ideas. The ultimate letdown Tania Boler is founder of Elvie Every time I ventured out of the house in an attempt to connect with the real world, I seemed to have a breastfeeding crisis. One morning my son was getting hungry, so I sat down at a cafe to feed him. By the time I’d found a shawl and tried to cover up (making every effort to expose as little nipple as possible), he was crying hysterically. Right on cue, people started to stare, making me feel uncomfortable and stressed, leaving me with zero milk supply. Another time we were waiting to go through airport security. …

Breastfeeding Athletes Given This Perk At Paris Olympics

Breastfeeding Athletes Given This Perk At Paris Olympics

Throughout the years we’ve seen very limited, if any, allowances for breastfeeding women. On top of that, traditionally, children are not allowed inside the athletes’ village where participants stay during the Olympic Games. But — since French judo star Clarisse Agbegnenou has been campaigning for the needs of new mothers in sports to be taken care of, Paris Olympics have now made an allowance for breastfeeding mothers. In the huge move, French sportswomen will now be given the option of hotel rooms in close proximity to the brand new 10,000 population athletes village, in the suburb of Saint-Ouen in the north of Paris. The move means mothers can use the room to sleep next to their infants, or they can offer the room to their partners. There will also be a special social area for kids. “It’s unprecedented and it’s something we want to become permanent, so that’s not a one-off because it’s the Olympics in Paris,” said Astrid Guyart, the French Olympic Committee secretary general, according to Women’s Health. Though a rare move, similarly …
