A newborn baby tragically died after her exhausted mother was sent home just four hours after prolonged labour, an inquest has heard. Little Evelyn Grace March was just one day old when her mother tragically fell asleep while trying to breastfeed her in bed. Evelyn and her mother were discharged from the hospital on September 26, 2023, despite the mother having had little sleep for two days leading up to the birth. Around 1.45 a.m. on September 27, Evelyn was brought into her mother’s bed because she was unsettled. While breastfeeding, the mother is believed to have fallen asleep. When she awoke at approximately 4 am, she found her baby unresponsive under her breast. Despite emergency efforts, Evelyn could not be revived and was sadly pronounced dead at 7.50 a.m. at Leeds General Infirmary, where she had been born just the day before, reports The Sun.
