Brave Little Hunter the baby orca frees herself from Canada lagoon

Brave Little Hunter the baby orca frees herself from Canada lagoon

Rescuers were getting worried that they might not be able to save the orca calf. The 2-year-old — given a name that means “Brave Little Hunter” by the local First Nation people — had been stuck in a lagoon in Canada’s far west since March 23. Although she looked healthy after weeks trapped in the body of water, her survival chances were dwindling with each day. Repeated attempts to entice her out into the open seas had failed. Other options, such as lifting her out with a helicopter, were potentially dangerous, the rescuers said. Source link

interview the brave women in Ukraine whose husbands risk their lives to bring comfort and hope on the frontline

What do you do when everything falls apart? Is God really there in war, loss and grief? This is your opportunity to cover a unique event for approximately 50 women in Ukraine whose husbands risk their lives every day to help others and bring God’s comfort on the frontline of the war. These courageous women and pastors’ wives face deadly missile attacks on their own communities day and night. WHAT: The “Unmet Expectations” gathering April 29 – May 1, 2024 aims to encourage Ukrainian women whose lives and dreams have been torn apart by war. WHERE: Near Kyiv, Ukraine. WHO: Key speakers at the event include Oleksandra and Angela, two remarkable Ukrainian women partnering with Illinois-based Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) which is hosting the gathering. Montreal metallers Big Brave on doom, despondency and Emily Dickinson: ‘We’re sick as a species’ | Music

Montreal metallers Big Brave on doom, despondency and Emily Dickinson: ‘We’re sick as a species’ | Music

Since their inception in 2012, Big Brave have amplified the torrential sound of clawing oneself into being. The Montreal trio found their early audiences in metal and post-rock – recording their sophomore album a decade ago with Efrim Menuck of agitprop heroes Godspeed You! Black Emperor and signing to Southern Lord, the label of drone metal gods Sunn O))) – but their scorched, squalling experimental rock never fitted neatly into either category. “We started with concepts: basic instrumentation, using the tools that we had, which were not much at the time,” says guitarist and singer Robin Wattie. Big Brave was her first band, named to evoke pure conviction. “There’s always this element of ‘What is it that I’m trying to carve out or find?’” That inquisitive search through heavy music, she says, “parallels my experience in the industry: quite literally having to elbow my way into environments and make space for myself at venues and bars just to be heard and treated with respect – very basic, minimal things.” On a Wednesday morning, Big Brave, …

Brave search engine adds privacy-focused AI – no Google or Bing needed

Lance Whitney/ZDNET Move over Microsoft and Google, you’re not the only ones amping up AI in your search engines. On Wednesday, privacy-minded Brave announced a new feature called “Answer with AI” designed to summarize the results when you ask a question or run a search. Although Brave unveiled an AI-based summary option last year, the company touts the new feature as a “significant step forward.” Like other AI-enabled search engines, Brave’s Answer with AI compiles information from different sources into a single summarized answer for you to digest more easily. However, with its reputation for protecting your privacy, Brave boasts a few benefits unique to its AI search. Also: The best secure browsers to protect your privacy online In response to your question, Brave AI will provide answers, with sources cited, along with traditional search results. The answers generated are based on Brave’s independent search engine, which — Brave asserts — is different from the largest real-time answer engines that rely — directly or indirectly. — on the Google or Bing search engines.  Brave’s Answer …

Sure Start could have changed everything for my family. Labour must be brave – and revitalise it | Terri White

Sure Start could have changed everything for my family. Labour must be brave – and revitalise it | Terri White

Sure Start did change the lives of children, a new report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) told us last week. It not only improved educational outcomes for children, particularly kids from deprived areas, but also reduced later need for education, health and care plans for those with special educational needs and disabilities (Send), and paid for itself. The confirmation that these centres for early years support were indeed a good thing was greeted by some as entirely surprising news that no one could have possibly predicted. If only we’d known! Gordon Brown, the then-Labour chancellor who introduced Sure Start in 1998, helped retrieve my eyeballs from the bit of my skull I’d rolled them into, with his analysis: “These results tell us in detail what most parents already know. That if you provide a supportive environment to children in their early years and invest in their futures, the results will be life-transforming.” Brown is surely being a bit generous with his use of “parents” here: isn’t it entirely obvious to anyone, everyone, that …

7 features that make Brave such a good browser

7 features that make Brave such a good browser

Jack Wallen/ZDNET I tend to use multiple web browsers for multiple purposes. Or sometimes, I just want to use something different. Right now, I’m bouncing between Opera, Arc, and Brave. Arc tends to get less usage because it’s not available on the Linux operating system (yeah, I’m one of the few who still prefers desktop over mobile). Opera has been my default for a while now and it’s hard to pull me away from its Workspaces feature (the best tab management on the market). Still, Brave has always been there, calling me, begging that I make more use of it. Also: The best secure browsers to protect your privacy online in 2024 So… I did. It’s quite good. I’d go so far as to say Brave is far better than many browsers in many ways. Shall I count them? I shall. 1. Brave is secure It’s not a stretch to say that if you truly want the most secure and private browsing experience, you should be using Tor Browser. I don’t think anyone in the …

Prince William and Queen Camilla adopting ‘brave faces’ | Royal | News

Prince William and Queen Camilla are thought to have grown closer amid both of their partners’ cancer battles. King Charles revealed his shock cancer diagnosis back in February, with the Princess of Wales sharing details of her own last month. Both diagnoses came as a shock to the family but William and Camilla are said to have formed a close bond as they navigate the situation together. Speaking about the pair, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “Recent events have obviously brought Prince William and Queen Camilla much closer.” Ms Bond told OK!: “They have been left, almost literally, nursing the crown while the King and Princess recover.” According to Ms Bond, the pair’s relationship will have strengthened since the King and Princess Kate both spent time in hospital back in January – both unrelated to their recent diagnoses. She said: “Times of adversity often bring people much closer together. For all the progress that has been made in cancer treatment, it is still a scary thing. “And while Camilla and William put on …

St Athan: ‘Brave’ Afghans who helped UK are to be housed on Welsh military camp | UK News

Dozens of Afghans who fled the Taliban after risking their lives to help the UK during the 20-year conflict are to be housed on a military camp in Wales. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) estate in St Athan, in the Vale of Glamorgan, will receive 50 people by the end of this month, with more joining them in mid-April. East Camp, which can host a maximum of 180, will be used by families who are eligible under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP). ARAP supports those who worked for, or with, the UK government and British armed forces in Afghanistan, such as interpreters. Ministers have previously acknowledged the much-criticised delay in relocating people, who faced death at the hands of the Taliban, was because of a shortage of suitable accommodation. The hardline militant group returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021 after Western forces, including the US and Britain, withdrew following a two decade-long occupation. An MoD spokesperson said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to those brave Afghans who risked their lives working …
