Cillian Murphy Talks ‘Small Things Like These’ (and Rewatching ‘Peaky Blinders’)

Cillian Murphy Talks ‘Small Things Like These’ (and Rewatching ‘Peaky Blinders’)

Were you coming off Oppenheimer and going into this much smaller, more intimate production? Well, I think I had about six or seven months off after we wrapped. And this script was ready to go before we shot Oppenheimer. We shot it while Chris was cutting Oppenheimer. But it was a lovely experience to be shooting back at home, shooting with Irish crews, and shooting with these amazing Irish actors. To be working with dear friends of mine who happen to be brilliantly talented writers, actors, and directors. So it was really special to shoot. Do you approach a smaller production any differently than a huge one? I think you need to take each role as seriously as the next, no matter what the size or scale. For sure, there was an added weight when you’re playing somebody like Oppenheimer who is a real life 20th-century icon. He changed the course of history. That has an added weight to it. But I approached playing Furlong with the same amount of rigor and prep and dedication. …

Cillian Murphy to return as Tommy Shelby for Peaky Blinders film

Cillian Murphy to return as Tommy Shelby for Peaky Blinders film

Cillian Murphy will “definitely” return for the Peaky Blinders movie. The BBC drama’s creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the Oppenheimer star will reprise his role as gangster Tommy Shelby in the big-screen adaptation of the drama that will be filmed later this year. Speaking to Birmingham World at the premiere of his new BBC series This Town, Knight said: “He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.” The Oscar winner’s return as Tommy Shelby is unsurprising as he has often talked about his interest in playing the character in a film as long as the script was of sufficient quality. Murphy told Rolling Stone UK last year: “If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it. “But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more.” The 47-year-old actor added to the Irish Star last month: “I …

Cillian Murphy on Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer, Peaky Blinders Movie

Cillian Murphy, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is a terrific Irish actor who The New York Times has said is “known for his electrifying, typecast-defying turns in a range of movies, big and small.” Backstage has called him “a chameleonic performer, a character actor trapped in a leading man’s bone structure.” Interview magazine has noted he has had a tremendously impressive career but “is still somehow cruelly underrated, and only getting better.” Murphy’s standout film credits include 2002’s 28 Days Later; 2005’s Breakfast on Pluto, for which he received a best musical/comedy actor Golden Globe nom; and 2021’s A Quiet Place, Part II. He also anchored, between 2013 and 2022, Peaky Blinders, the massively acclaimed drama series about a Birmingham gang during the years between World War I and World War II. It aired on BBC2 in the U.K. and streamed to massive numbers on Netflix. But he is most associated with the films by Christopher Nolan, who describes him as “one of the great actors of his …

The Peaky Blinders actor Paul Anderson has been fined for possession of drugs, including crack cocaine, after being found with that and other substances on Boxing Day. He pleaded guilty to all four charges and was fined a total of £1,345. According to a report, Anderson spoke only to enter his pleas and to confirm his identity and address in north-west London. People Are Just Realising This Fool Me Once And Peaky Blinders Link

Viewers who’ve been tuning in to Netflix’s new drama Fool Me Once may have felt a bit of déjà vu while they were binge-watching, and we don’t just mean because of the drama’s all-star cast. While watching the eight-part series, which is the latest collaboration between the streaming service and mystery writer Harlan Coben, many viewers couldn’t help feeling a little distracted as they tried to place where they’d seen Joanna Lumley’s character’s elaborate stately home before. And then… the penny finally dropped that the location was previously the home of Tommy Shelby, the character played by Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders. Loving ‘Fool me once’ on Netflix but aren’t they using Tommy Shelby’s house? ???? — Charlie Murphy (@CharlieMurphy50) January 2, 2024 Haha. Tbh I knew I recognised it from somewhere but couldn’t place it and it was bugging me. So I looked it up & yeah, Tommy fooking Shelby’s house! It’s Arley Hall in Cheshire. It’s used a lot as a filming location. — Marci Jay she/her (@Darthritis2013) January 2, 2024 Joanna Lumleys …
