Boomer Boss Reprimands Worker For Using Celebratory Emojis In Chats

Boomer Boss Reprimands Worker For Using Celebratory Emojis In Chats

The generation gap has always been a thing in the workplace, but nowadays, it often feels more pronounced than ever.  We constantly hear about older generations judging younger workers as entitled and incompetent, but stories like the one a young professional recently told on X pull things into much sharper focus — and turn the tables on all those cranky office boomers in the process. A worker’s boomer boss claimed that certain emojis ‘cost the company extra’ to use. At this point, we’re in what feels like year 497 of the situation that has been the subject of myriad jokes about working with Boomers and older people in the office — that they’re so out of touch with modernity they need a young person’s help any time they want to, say, open a PDF. fizkes | Shutterstock That was the plight of basically the entire millennial generation throughout the 2000s, after all — basically getting paid to save their bosses from learning how to use the printer or figure out how to make a pivot …

Boss Cuts Worker’s Hours When He Refuses To Cancel Vacation Because His Pre-Approved Time Off Was Denied

Boss Cuts Worker’s Hours When He Refuses To Cancel Vacation Because His Pre-Approved Time Off Was Denied

An employee admitted that he was baffled after his boss both reprimanded him for and refused to let him use his PTO.  Posting to the subreddit “r/AmITheJerk” — an online public forum where individuals can share either personal anecdotes or conflicts that have happened to other people to see who was in the wrong — the 20-year-old man claimed that he and his boss, Susan, were involved in a bit of an argument after she told him that his PTO request was “last minute” after he’d already booked his vacation days. She told her employee that he wasn’t allowed to use his pre-approved time off. In his Reddit post, he explained that he’s been working in a store for the past two years and has never had any bad interactions or encounters with his boss until fairly recently.  It started back in January 2024 when he decided to save up so that he could take a few days of vacation with the PTO that he has. As he started to make his plans and arrangements, he made …

Worker Confronts Boss About Being The Lowest Paid Person On The Team

Worker Confronts Boss About Being The Lowest Paid Person On The Team

People are struggling with incredible financial and socio-economic burdens today despite having full-time jobs, college degrees, and professional certifications. They sacrifice their well-being daily for a 9-to-5 job that hardly provides them with security, let alone comfort.  It’s exactly why employees should never be degraded or feel inferior for prioritizing their pay — whether that be following up on pay stubs, reviewing their invoices, or advocating for themselves if they feel undervalued.  One employee, who wrote to employment expert Ben Askins for advice, admitted they were forced to “confront” their boss after learning they were severely underpaid. The worker confronted her boss after learning she was ‘the lowest paid person’ on their team — only for them to argue it was ‘not an appropriate’ discussion for work.  “Hi [boss], just found out I am the lowest paid in the whole team,” this employee wrote in a message to her boss, “that is despite the fact that I’ve been here the longest and also one of the most senior.”  RELATED: Boss Refuses To Pay His Employee Of 5 Years More Than Minimum Wage …

Employee Explains How He Was Blackmailed By His Boss Into Missing His College Roommate’s Wedding

Employee Explains How He Was Blackmailed By His Boss Into Missing His College Roommate’s Wedding

After an employee was promised time off to attend his college roommate’s wedding, he was approached by his boss and warned that taking time off could jeopardize his job. However, the employee soon discovered that he was better off going to the wedding than prioritizing the position.  The employee claimed that he was ‘blackmailed’ by his boss to work the day of his friend’s wedding despite being promised that time off.  Sharing his story to the r/antiwork subreddit, the employee revealed that he previously worked at a university in the southern United States, where he was hired to build sets for the theatre department.  “Part of this lateral hire was the stipulation that I was going to be gone for a set long weekend in the spring for my college roommate’s wedding,” the man wrote. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. “Well, as it turns out, that school year was going to be incredibly rough on the theatre department, and I would be left alone to build eight fully backed shows after also contracting COVID and pneumonia,” he …

Boss Accuses Worker Of Not Being A Team Player For Refusing Morning Meeting

Boss Accuses Worker Of Not Being A Team Player For Refusing Morning Meeting

A British man’s conflict with his American manager has left scores of people on TikTok rolling their eyes. The situation underlines how different work cultures are in other countries and just how wrongheaded so many bosses are, particularly as workplace mores continue to shift.  The man’s boss said he was ‘not being a team player’ when he refused to start his day an hour early.    TikToker @unwedvampire’s video about the spat had many American workers nodding in sympathy. It’s a quintessential conflict we’ve all experienced at one time or another: Your boss demands you do extra work, and there’s at least the unspoken agreement that you’ll become a ‘problem employee,’ or worse, if you say no.  But @unwedvampire’s situation is particularly ridiculous: He had a valid reason for not being willing to come in an hour early. But that didn’t matter to his new American boss, and the situation quickly escalated.  RELATED: Expert Says Companies Need To Adopt Gen Z’s Attitude Toward Work, Not The Other Way Around He refused to start his day at 8 a.m. instead of 9 …

Boss Tells Employee She Has A Lack Of Respect For Protocol Because She Flew First Class While Boss Sat In Coach

Boss Tells Employee She Has A Lack Of Respect For Protocol Because She Flew First Class While Boss Sat In Coach

While we owe a certain level of respect to our boss, no matter what field of work we are in, the lines can sometimes become blurred. Especially when issues of seniority are concerned. A woman found herself at odds with her employer over a first class plane ticket on a work trip. Taking to Reddit, the confused employee asked if she should have handled the conflict differently. A boss believed she was entitled to her employee’s first class upgrade. The woman requested nothing out of the ordinary when traveling home with her boss from a conference they had both attended. She was shocked when her superior called her out for being resourceful. The frequent flyer said that she had been booked on the same flight as her manager for the return trip home. The two, however, were not seated together. Employee Who Missed A Day Of Work After A House Fire Was Told He Would Not Be Paid Because He Was Not Technically Sick

Employee Who Missed A Day Of Work After A House Fire Was Told He Would Not Be Paid Because He Was Not Technically Sick

After an employee lost nearly everything in a tragic house fire, he understandably had to take a day off of work to sift through the rubble and come to terms with what happened. However, his boss was less than sympathetic toward his situation, refusing to compensate him for the time he had no choice but to take off.  The employee’s boss notified him that he would not be paid for his time off after the house fire since he ‘technically’ wasn’t sick.  Ben Askins, a content creator who often shares employee’s mind-boggling stories involving their bosses, took to TikTok to share the man’s unfortunate circumstances.  “Last year, I had a house fire and lost the contents of my bedroom. Clothes, bed, everything,” the man wrote. “The house was full of smoke damage and needed cleaning and redecorating.”  The man, a full-time employee, did not go to work the day after the fire as he had nothing to wear and had to clean out the house. His boss later informed him that that day’s pay would be subtracted from his salary for …

Restaurant Creates Wall Of Shame Reprimanding Servers For Not Getting 20% Tips From Customers

Restaurant Creates Wall Of Shame Reprimanding Servers For Not Getting 20% Tips From Customers

A restaurant has come under fire after mandating that their servers make a certain amount of tips or risk being publicly reprimanded. In a TikTok video, a content creator who goes by the username @officialbw and makes content about the restaurant industry shared one of the worst restaurant policies he’s ever seen.  The restaurant created a ‘wall of shame’ where servers are reprimanded for not getting 20% tips from customers. The man explained that a restaurant in Florida, which he generously didn’t name, has a mandate where all of the servers are required to make at least 20% tip averages. If they don’t, the servers end up on what is called the “wall of shame” and risk losing out on shifts. The TikToker showed a photo of the wall, where the names of the servers were written with the percentage of tips they’d made next to them. Those who hadn’t reached 20% were highlighted. “Like Katie here… she’s only at 19%. You better get your act together,” he joked. “Harley, she only has 19%! Harley, you’re on the edge!” RELATED: Server Explains Why …

Boss Tries To Cancel Employee’s Approved PTO After A Coworker Resigns

Boss Tries To Cancel Employee’s Approved PTO After A Coworker Resigns

A boss has come under scrutiny after attempting to dissuade an employee from using his approved time off because of an unexpected staff shortage. In a TikTok video, content creator and business expert Michael Sanz, who often posts career tips, shared a conversation between a boss and his employee that elicited a strong reaction from viewers. After a coworker resigned, the boss tried to cancel an employee’s approved PTO because they needed ‘all hands on deck.’ “You will not believe this message I’ve just been sent,” Sanz incredulously began in his video. In a text to his employee Noel, a boss named Nick explained that his coworker, Jenny, recently resigned and Noel would need to cancel his upcoming approved leave because they would need “all hands on deck” to combat Jenny’s sudden exit. “We can push back a few months. I’ve advised HR, and it’s now changed for you. Appreciate your understanding,” Nick’s message read. Sanz acknowledged that he already sounded like a bad boss, as he canceled his employee’s leave without so much as a conversation.  …

Woman’s Boss And Co-Worker Retaliate Against Her For Taking Time Off To Care For Ill Mother

Everyone goes through a difficult time in life eventually, and if you’re lucky, it happens while you have an understanding boss and co-workers. One woman on Reddit was not so fortunate, however, and it’s created a situation that highlights one of the biggest holes in America’s employment laws.  Her co-worker and boss are retaliating because she took time off to help her dying mother.  Dealing with a close family member or even a close friend who is at the end of their life is a harrowing experience, and it can be impossible to devote yourself 100% to your job in the midst of such a struggle. As boomers age, these situations are becoming ever more common for American workers. RELATED: Hardworking Employee Spent 15 Years At Company Just To Be Fired In A 5-Minute Meeting Nevertheless, it is also all too common that bosses and managers are not understanding when workers find themselves in these harrowing situations.
