Commentary: Think Singapore is boring? That’s partly why it can attract repeat visits from Taylor Swift

ANY CITY IS ONLY AS INTERESTING AS YOU MAKE IT OUT TO BE For tourists, Singapore offers many exciting attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Mandai Wildlife Reserve, ArtScience Museum and Sentosa. As a resident, I’ve been to these places on multiple occasions and still enjoy them since there are always seasonal events that keep the rotation fresh. However, Singapore’s smaller land size compared to the rest of Southeast Asia also make recreational choices limited. For example, while we take pride in being a city in a garden, we lack the natural landscapes that would thrill outdoorsy types. An expatriate friend concurs, saying that Singapore can be a lot less exciting for expats if you’re comparing it to cities like New York, London, Hong Kong or Shanghai. But he added that if you’re looking for stability and a healthy living environment, Singapore offers enough to fill your days. In recent years, there have also been more interesting events emerging such as thrifting, music acts and pop-ups. Even things as mundane as mall closures go …

Why You Need To Raise Your Vibration To Attract The One Who’s Actually Good For You | Selina Schuh

When I was single, I spent much of my time waiting for that elusive knight in shining armor to swoop in and rescue me from my life. I had no idea how to attract that person and hoped he would fall into my lap. It wasn’t until I stopped waiting and worked on making myself happy that I figured out how to find true love and manifest the relationship of my dreams. Finding true love is not usually something that “happens” to you one day. Neither is it something out of your control. On the contrary, learning how to find true love and happiness in relationships is something you can work on strategically. RELATED: 3 Simple Ways To Become An Extremely Intuitive Person Here’s how to raise your vibration to attract the right partner. Author Deepak Chopra, in an article in the Huffington Post, talks about this principle and explains, “Like attracts like, and the more you live your ideal of love, the more your light will draw another light to you.“ 1. A French ski resort is focusing on indoor and virtual skiing to attract new customers

The reclining ski carpet at the Les Orres resort in the Hautes-Alpes region, February 6, 2024. LES ORRES – AURéLIE BELLET “Lean further to the right, facing the slope, snowplow!” At Les Orres ski resort, students perched on their skis listened attentively to the instructor and slid down the slope. Nothing out of the ordinary so far in the Hautes-Alpes ski resort in southeastern France. However, the students weren’t racing down one of the resort’s 36 slopes but were instead skiing along a continuously moving synthetic carpet inside a building. More precisely, they were in the Pôle Sport Innovation, a brand-new two-story building spanning 1,100 square meters, located at the foot of the resort’s slopes. The eight-by-10-meter sloping ski carpet is one of the indoor complex’s flagship facilities. “It’s an exceptional training tool for all levels,” said Sébastien Aubert, director of the Les Orres ski school. To recreate the skiing experience, colorful geometric shapes are projected onto the carpet serve to as a track to follow and obstacles to move around. Additionally, a giant screen …

Ukraine to upgrade drone capabilities, attract new recruits as fight against Russia continues

When CNA visited a testing site, members of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army were seen putting a do-it-yourself (DIY) drone through its paces. A member of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army’s Caligula Tactical Group, who goes by the military callsign Sambist, said: “We test new drones – if they flew (and) if everything was okay. Some of them are just from the workshop. We test their flight distance and their condition.” But crudely assembled drones can be a hit and miss, especially their video feed, and this can affect Ukraine’s ability to attack Russian positions on the frontline.  “The hit rate is about 70 per cent,” he said, adding that the drones can fail in various conditions, including the jamming of electronic warfare.  For now, Ukraine wants to open up a new frontier in drone warfare, and is prepared to spend more than US$1 billion this year to upgrade its drone capabilities.  Source link

Budget 2024: Singapore to introduce new refundable tax credit to attract high-quality investments

Budget 2024: Singapore to introduce new refundable tax credit to attract high-quality investments

SINGAPORE: Singapore is introducing a new refundable tax credit to remain competitive and continue to attract high-quality investments, said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on Friday (Feb 16). Making the announcement in his annual Budget speech, he noted that Singapore faces tougher competition for investments as governments around the world, such as Japan, roll out vast subsidies to attract investments, especially in strategic industries. Singapore’s investment pipeline has been healthy so far despite a challenging external environment, he said. Last year, the Economic Development Board (EDB) attracted S$12.7 billion (US$9.4 billion) in fixed asset investments, which are expected to create over 20,000 new jobs. “We cannot afford to engage in a bidding war with the major economies, but neither should we stand still and just do nothing,” Mr Wong said. The new Refundable Investment Credit (RIC) – which works as a tax credit with a refundable cash feature – will aim to support “high-value and substantive economic activities”, the minister said. These include the setting up or expansion of manufacturing facilities, new …

Commentary: Visa waiver deal puts Singapore in good stead to attract the coveted Chinese tourist

Commentary: Visa waiver deal puts Singapore in good stead to attract the coveted Chinese tourist

China’s travel agency giants expect visa exemption to keep Singapore attractive beyond the seasonal jumpstart. “If we look at the areas that have been doing very well over the past year, the first are GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries in the Middle East. Qatar and Dubai have favourable visa policies and make arrival convenient; other nations have online visa application procedures that are convenient and easy. “Now that Singapore and China will be implementing reciprocal visa-free travel, we certainly see more Chinese travellers choosing to visit Singapore due to the increased convenience,” Mr Edmund Ong, general manager of Trip.com Singapore, told me. MIRAGE OF CHINA’S REVENGE TRAVELLERS It may appear, wishfully, that China is finally unleashing its revenge travellers in full force. But China’s economic troubles are too big to ignore. The slow return of outbound travel was largely attributed to China’s disappointing economic restart coming out of the pandemic. As of September 2023, Chinese outbound tourism expenditure was still down 18 per cent from pre-pandemic levels, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. …

French government joins forces with Netflix to attract tourists

An image from the Netflix mini-series “All the Light We Cannot See,” shot in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, in southern France. In the southern French town of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, filming of the Netflix series All the Light We Cannot See didn’t go unnoticed. Streets were transformed, shops redecorated. “It was quite something!” recalled Mayor Jean-Sébastien Orcibal. He estimates the economic spin-offs from the month-long shoot – showcasing the town’s medieval streets and arcaded squares – at €2 million. Now, the town council would like to capitalize on the success of this series (50 million views) to attract tourists and has even created a specific brochure. But you’ll still need to learn of the town – because this fictional series is not supposed to be taking place in Villefranche-de-Rouergue. In the series, the town we see on screen is presented as… Saint-Malo, a port city in Brittany. That’s why the mayor is delighted with the tourist guide launched on Thursday, February 1, by Netflix in partnership with Atout France, the government agency dedicated to tourism. The guide promotes filming locations …

The Number One Predictor of Failure to Attract Mates

The Number One Predictor of Failure to Attract Mates

5400082 Some folks assume being single hurts and makes you unhappy. This assumption is not necessarily true. Many singles are, in fact, happy and satisfied with life. But they tend to be people who have chosen this way of life; in other words, they are voluntary singles. Individuals who prefer to have an intimate partner (e.g., cohabiting, married) but remain alone are known as involuntary singles. An important question is what predicts whether someone will have trouble finding a suitable mate and consequently remain single involuntarily. Published in the January 2024 issue of Personality and Individual Differences, a recent study by Apostolou and Michaelidou explores 17 potential predictors of difficulties in attracting mates. The study is discussed below. Investigating why some people have trouble finding a romantic partner The researchers gave a survey consisting of 10 parts to a sample of 1,432 Greek-speaking individuals in the Republic of Cyprus. The sample included 734 women (average age of 35 years old) and 698 men (average age of 39 years old). Approximately 27 percent of participants were …
