Ukraine in mass drone attack on targets in Russia as Putin’s forces launch intense assaults in east

Ukraine has launched dozens of drones in a mass strike across targets in Russia and around the Black Sea, including a major oil refinery. It comes as the country’s top commander said that Russian forces were staging relentless assaults to try to advance towards the town of Pokrovsk, a logistics hub in eastern Ukraine, and that there was active fighting taking place along the entire front line. “The enemy pays no attention to their fairly high level of losses and continues to push through towards Pokrovsk,” Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a statement from the eastern front. The oil refinery in Tuapse was damaged in an overnight assault, officials from the Krasnodar region confirmed on Monday. Debris from a drone that was shot down by Russia sparked a fire at the refinery, which is located in the Black Sea and owned by Kremlin-controlled oil company Rosneft. The blaze has since been contained and there were no deaths following the attack, the regional administration said on the Telegram messaging app. It was not immediately clear …

Center-left politician attacked in German library amid wave of assaults – POLITICO

“The suspect then walked away. Ms. Giffey briefly went to hospital for outpatient treatment for headache and neck pain,” according to the report. The attack on Giffey is the latest in a series of assaults against politicians in Germany ahead of June’s European Parliament election, prompting calls for better protection. In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, Giffey said: “I am concerned and shocked by the increasing ‘fair game culture’ in which people who are politically active and engaged in our country are increasingly exposed to supposedly justified and acceptable attacks.” “There is no justification for these attacks. They are a transgression that we as a society must firmly oppose,” she added. German politicians have condemned the attack, including Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner who said “anyone who attacks politicians is attacking our democracy. We will not accept that. We will oppose all forms of violence, hatred and incitement and protect our democracy.” “We will discuss consequences in the Senate, including harsher penalties for attacks on politicians,” he added. Assaults on German Politicians Raise Election-Year Worries

A spate of attacks on German officials and politicians has brought fresh worries over political violence and a breakdown of civility ahead of several critical elections this year, including in three states where the far-right Alternative for Germany party could make significant gains. In the latest attack, on Friday evening, four people assaulted a prominent Social Democratic politician who was hanging campaign posters in Dresden, leaving him with a broken cheekbone and eye socket that required emergency surgery. The official, Matthias Ecke, is running for re-election to the European Parliament. That evening a Green Party campaigner, whose name has not been released, was attacked in the same residential neighborhood, by what the police believe was the same group of people. A day earlier, on Thursday, Rolf Fliss, the deputy mayor of the city of Essen, 300 miles west, was punched in the face by a group of men with whom he had been having what he initially characterized as a “friendly exchange.” The violent attack on Mr. Ecke drew a sharp response from Chancellor Olaf …

A parish council chairman was poked in the face and pulled to the ground by an “out of control” businessman during a dispute about bird nests in a quiet village, a court has heard. Magistrates were shown mobile phone footage of an incident in the North Yorkshire village of Church Fenton in which Andrew Mason, 63, a resident and parish council chairman, can be seen in front of a tree-cutting cherry picker as Chris Makin, 65, tries to drag him by his clothes and hair. Prosecutors at Harrogate magistrates’ court on Thursday described how, before the footage begins, Makin had poked Mr Mason in the face, knocking off his glasses, and then “thrown him to the floor in a kind of headlock”. Michael Smith, prosecuting, said: “The defendant scooped Mr Mason’s hair into his hands and tried to pull him across the road by his hair.” Andrew Mason says he thought his life was ‘in peril’ during the incident last year – David Higgens/PA In the video, Mr Mason lies on the ground and can …

‘Drag Race’ Star Shangela Accused of Multiple Sexual Assaults

Five members of the LGBTQ community are leveling accusations of sexual assault or coercion against drag performer Shangela, who settled a previous rape case that allegedly took place on the set of an HBO series through mediation in February. In a Rolling Stone article published on Monday, the five accusers recount incidents in which Darius Jeremy Pierce, the man behind the drag persona Shangela, who appeared in season two of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and HBO’s drag-centric show, We’re Here, allegedly assaulted individuals or attempted to get them inebriated beyond the ability to give consent. All five told the magazine that they came forward after HBO production assistant Daniel McGarrigle filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Pierce of drugging and raping him after a 2020 wrap party; the case was settled in mediation after a judge tossed two of the charges. Pierce vehemently denied the allegation, saying it “has no basis in fact or in law.” Many of the new accusations against Pierce in Rolling Stone‘s story have details similar to McGarrigle’s …

Wall Street Scrambles To Abandon DEI As “Legal Assaults” Mount

Wall Street Scrambles To Abandon DEI As “Legal Assaults” Mount

We’ve been stating for months that both the DEI and ESG gravy trains on Wall Street are finally coming to an unceremonious end. Who would have guessed the profit motive would be incompatible with mindless, unproductive virtue signaling and reverse racism?  The pushback on DEI has been immense, with entire universities and corporations slashing their DEI departments. Subha Barry, former head of diversity at Merrill Lynch, told Bloomberg this weekend: “We’re past the peak.” The report highlighted yet another shift on Wall Street, wherein programs open to people of color and women are “now open to all”. Imagine that… For example, Goldman Sachs has adjusted its “Possibilities Summit,” previously exclusive to Black college students, to now welcome White students as well. Bank of America Corp. has expanded its internal programs, initially aimed at women and minorities, to include all employees. Furthermore, Bank of New York Mellon Corp. has been advised by legal counsel to reevaluate and potentially eliminate strict diversity metrics from its workforce evaluations, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Executives at major banks, including …

Taunts, bullying… then groping: how sexual assaults are increasing in schools | Rape and sexual assault

Taunts, bullying… then groping: how sexual assaults are increasing in schools | Rape and sexual assault

Starting secondary school had not been easy for Billy (not his real name). What started as verbal taunts from one boy soon saw him become the target of a group of four boys. Bullying became physical violence. Yet the abuse got even worse, escalating to sexual assault. The group would corner him in the toilets and grope and touch his genitals. Unsurprisingly, Billy’s mental health quickly deteriorated. He is now being home-schooled and he struggles to leave the house because of anxiety. Billy is receiving support from Embrace, a charity that works with children who have been the victims of crime. He says that he is starting to feel stronger, while his parents say his panic attacks and nightmares are receding thanks to the support he is getting. However, what he experienced was part of an increase in “peer-on-peer abuse” that is worrying schools, police and professionals who work with young people. Billy’s experience was unusual in that most abuse is carried out by boys against girls. But what he faced is part of a …
