Alec Baldwin has filed a lawsuit against prosecutors who pursued a criminal charge against him after the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. The Hollywood actor, who was the lead actor and co-producer of the Western film, was pointing a gun at Ms Hutchins when it fired in October 2021. The cinematographer was killed and director Joel Souza was wounded. Baldwin, 66, was accused of involuntary manslaughter but his trial was upended in July when a judge threw the case out based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of ammunition evidence from the defence. He has now filed a lawsuit for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations against those involved in pursuing the charge. The lawsuit alleges that prosecutors intentionally concealed evidence that would absolve Baldwin from blame and “sought at every turn to scapegoat” him to “maliciously bring about or advance” the actor’s trial and conviction. Alec Berg and Adam Countee are moving from Silicon Valley to the world of F1. Hulu is teaming with the duo for Downforce, a comedy that has been picked up to pilot at the Disney-run streamer. Described as Entourage set in the world of Formula 1 racing, Downforce follows what happens when the heiress to a dynastic racing team is thrust back into the family business and the hard choices she must make about the future of the team and her family’s legacy.  Berg and Countee will write and serve as showrunners on the potential series, which is produced by ABC Signature. The weapons supervisor for the film Rust has been jailed for 18 months following the fatal shooting of the film’s cinematographer on set. Hannah Gutierrez, 26, was sentenced today after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by jurors in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following a trial. She was in charge of weapons during the production of the western film in October 2021, when a Colt 45 revolver fired by actor and co-producer Alec Baldwin went off during a rehearsal. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died following the incident, while director Joel Souza was injured. Jurors sitting on Gutierrez’s trial reached their verdict after a two-week trial during which they heard evidence from dozens of witnesses, including eyewitnesses, FBI evidence analysts and an ammunition supplier to Rust, as well as Mr Souza, during a 10-day trial.
