Last month, the House passed legislation that would force ByteDance, the Chinese-owned parent company of TikTok, to sell the popular app or be banned in the U.S.  The bill was then flipped over to the Senate side, where it has an unclear future.  Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) made waves when he merged an adjusted measure with the $95 billion foreign aid package which easily passed in the lower chamber on Saturday. The measure related to TikTok, tied with the foreign aid package, has a different language than the previous one, which cleared the lower chamber in March.  The new measure one would extend ByteDance’s timeline to sell TikTok, bumping it up from six months to a year, an adjustment that compelled Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) to support the bill in the upper chamber. Osteosarcoma, a primary malignant bone tumour, poses a significant challenge in oncology due to its complex pathogenesis and often aggressive nature. Osteosarcoma primarily affects the long bones of adolescents and young adults, thus presenting unique clinical and therapeutic considerations. It accounts for approximately 5% of childhood tumours. More than 50% of these tumours in children and adolescents arise from the long bones around the knee. Osteosarcoma is rarely seen in soft tissue or visceral organs, and there appears to be no difference in presenting symptoms, tumour location, and outcome for younger patients (<12 years) compared with adolescents. As the most common primary bone cancer in children and adolescents, understanding its complexity and evolving treatment strategies is paramount for improving young patient outcomes and their quality of life. Cavendish Nuclear and X-energy have secured funding from the UK government’s Future Nuclear Enabling Fund to develop ‘Xe-100s’ – advanced modular reactors (AMRs) for the UK. The £3.34 million award will be matched by X-energy for a total programme price tag of £6.68 million. This money will go towards the development of UK-specific deployment plans for AMRs, including an assessment of domestic manufacturing and supply chain opportunities, constructability, modularisation studies and fuel management. The two firms are also set to partner with construction group Kier to support constructability and supply chain analyses, joining Sheffield Forgemasters and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre on the project. Last year, the duo also signed a memorandum of understanding with Howden – the Glasgow-based gas circulation component manufacturer – and will also work with Nuclear Waste Services to review the approach to spent fuel management.
