‘The Maze Runner’ Movie Reboot in the Works at 20th Century

[ad_1] The Maze Runner is back at the starting line. 20th Century Studios is rebooting the sci-fi action adventure franchise, which ran as a trilogy from 2014 to 2018. The Disney arm is in negotiations to tap Jack Paglen, perhaps best known for writing the Johnny Depp-starring sci-fi movie Transcendence, to pen the script for a new installment. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman of Gotham Group and Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill, who produced the original trilogy, are back to produce this one. Wes Ball, who directed the original trilogy, will also be involved as a producer. Based on the best-selling books by James Dashner, the first Maze Runner tome, and the movie adaptation, centered on a group of teens who find themselves arriving in a walled setting named the Glade with their memories wiped out. Beyond the four walls of the encampment lies a maze, filled with deadly mechanical creatures and doors that shut every night at sundown. One new arrival figures out the key to the groups’ survival and attempts …

Mercedes de Acosta: The poet who had affairs with the 20th century’s most famous women | Books

[ad_1] She was the “furious lesbian” who had affairs with some of the most famous women of the jazz age, prompting the writer and wit Alice B Toklas to remark of Mercedes de Acosta: “Say what you will about Mercedes, she’s had the most important women of the 20th century.” Among the playwright and poet’s conquests and flirtations were Hollywood royalty Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich, dancers Isadora Duncan and Tamara Karsavina, actresses Ona Munson and Pola Negri, and reportedly Toklas herself. Although she never achieved the same heights of fame as the women she bedded — she staged a few plays and published three modestly received books of poetry in her lifetime: Moods in 1919, Archways of Life in 1921 and Streets and Shadows the following year — de Acosta is probably best known for her explosive memoir Here Lies the Heart in 1960, in which she detailed her liaisons in 1920s America, prompting rifts with several of the women named. But now a fourth book of unpublished poetry has emerged, a one-off volume …

Primodos: MPs say ‘covered-up’ evidence could reveal ‘one of the biggest medical frauds of 20th century’ | UK News

[ad_1] MPs are calling for a new review into the dangers of the drug Primodos, claiming that families who suffered avoidable harm from it have been “sidelined and stonewalled”. MPs said the suggestion there is no proven link between the hormone pregnancy test and babies being born with malformations is “factually and morally wrong”. A report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on hormone pregnancy tests claims evidence was “covered up” and it is possible to “piece together a case that could reveal one of the biggest medical frauds of the 20th century”. Around 1.5 million women in Britain were given hormone pregnancy tests between the 1950s and 1970s. They were instructed to take the drug by their GPs as a way of finding out if they were pregnant. But Primodos was withdrawn from the market in the UK in the late 1970s after regulators warned “an association was confirmed” between the drug and birth defects. However, in 2017 an expert working group found there was insufficient evidence of a causal association. But MPs now …

Ne-Yo on 20th Anniversary of Mario’s “Let Me Love You”

Ne-Yo on 20th Anniversary of Mario’s “Let Me Love You”

[ad_1] Before Ne-Yo became a household name, the budding performer was working tirelessly as a songwriter behind the scenes, and his breakthrough came in the form of then-16-year-old singer Mario. Released in October 2004, Ne-Yo wrote “Let Me Love You” for Mario’s sophomore album Turning Point — the follow-up to his hit “Just a Friend 2002” — and the smooth R&B track became an international hit. It topped the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine weeks and spent 11 weeks on top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart. It earned Mario his first-ever Grammy nomination and helped the teen singer transition to a performer with an adult fanbase.  But Ne-Yo admits, “I remember when I wrote that song, I did not think Mario was going to be able to pull it off.” “Mind you, I hadn’t met him yet,” he adds. “All I knew was that he had just turned 16 and I’m like, ‘This is kind of a mature song. Like, does this dude even know anything about love?’” But things changed once …
