Footage Shows Dangerous Driver Narrowly Avoiding Head-On Collisions Before Crashing into Hedge

A 63-year-old van driver has been banned for six years after he was seen swerving in and out of lanes on a narrow road, before crashing into a hedge. Police said they found him in the passenger seat, where he told them his “mate” had been driving.

Alan Loveridge had already fled the scene of a collision between Chittering and Stretham when he was filmed overtaking a truck on a busy road, forcing oncoming traffic to swerve out of his path, Cambridgeshire police said.

Loveridge crashed into a hedge after “knocking a wing mirror off the side of an oncoming Vauxhall Crossland”.

“Loveridge showed absolutely no regard for other users by driving in this incredibly dangerous manner,” PC Jake Cross said, adding “he put the lives of others, not to mention himself at risk.”

After pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, March 13, Loveridge was handed 12-month community order and £500 fine, alongside the six-year driving ban. Credit: Cambridgeshire Police via Storyful
